Apps to help keep your New Years Resolutions in check!

January 20, 2013 in Lifestyle

It’s that time of year where most of us decide on a few things to focus on for the year ahead. Normally by the end of January I’ve forgotten about mine! So anything that can help me stay on track I’ll try! Weather it’s keeping track of your calories, or your budget! Exercising or writing more each day, I hope the apps below will be able to help you stick to your resolutions.

Apps for keeping resolutions in check

1. Day One ($4.99)

This is a great journalling app. You can set reminders to help you remember to write, which is a great feature. I’ve used this when I was on holidays so I didn’t forget what we did. It was a great reference for when I got home and started making a photo book. You can also add photos to each day straight into the app.

2. Fitocracy (Free)

This is a great app to help motivate you to work out. It’s a social media platform for people who exercise. You get points for doing exercise, and it’s a game to see who can earn the most points. There are all different groups, and those groups host challenges (which you don’t have to join). Everyone on here is super motivating, and if you need help with a certain exercise they are there to help. I found this app to be great. I couldn’t wait to see how many points I earned for my workout!

3. HomeBudget with Sync ($4.99)

I have been using this app for the past year. It may seem a little expensive, but trust me, it’s worth it. I love this app because both my husband and I can have it installed on our iPhones, and when I make a purchase and input the expense into the app, it automatically updates the app on my Husband’s iPhone. So we always have an up to date exact dollar value of our budget. I love how convenient this app makes it to stick to a budget. My husband loves the reporting functionality.

4. My Fitness Pal (Free)

If one of your resolutions is to lose weight (or even just to not put anymore on) then this is the app for you! You can record both your calorie intake plus how many calories you earn from exercise. The database of food is quite extensive – and my favourite feature is the barcode scanner. Instead of searching for an item, if it has a barcode, just scan the barcode, select how many serves you had, and bingo, your calories have been recorded. You can also add friends who can view your food diary who can give you encouragement and guidance.

5. Daily Water Reminder ($0.99)

This is the perfect app for me. I try to drink enough water, but I can always do with a reminder. Normally I wait until I’m thirsty to drink – and by that time my body is already dehydrated, so I need to be reminded before I get thirsty. Enter the Daily Water Reminder app. I can set a goal of how many glasses I want to drink each day, and the app will keep a track of it for me. I love the reminder feature, I can set reminders for throughout the day at certain times, I have one every 45 minutes for when I’m at work.

What New Years resolutions did you make? Do you have a favourite app to help you stick to them?

Stay Chic,

Melissa xx
