Baby Disney

March 19, 2013 in Children, Fashion

I’m sure you’ve noticed, but it seems all the cool kids are preggers at the moment.

Kate Middleton, Fergi, Jessica Simpson, Kim Kardashian and most importantly our very own Lifestyle Contributor Melissa.

So I dedicate this post to those pregnant ladies out there.  If there was ever a time to get embarrassingly excited about onesies, now is the time.

On a recent trip to the US, my husband and I couldn’t go past hitting up Disney World.  We were probably one of the very few who didn’t have a pram or child with us.

I have been and am completely obsessed with anything Disney.  Don’t worry; it isn’t to the point that my doona cover is bright pink with a picture of Cinderella on it.  But my TV cabinet is stacked full of Disney movies on DVD and God help my grocery budget if there is a Disney movie on offer at Woolies that I don’t have (but probably already watched several times).  At the age of 10, I even made my poor mum make me a ‘Cinderella’ dress…exactly like it is in the movie.  Mind you, this is before you could buy them from the stores.

So in reality, my husband went to Disney World with a child…me.  And the best bit (besides Cinderella, Ariel and Belle waving at me) was the most adorable onesies ever imaginable.  While I am not pregnant, or plan on getting pregnant any time soon, I almost bought several onesies just to be able to look and coo over them.

Could you think of anything cuter than your little bub wrapped up in a onesies with the adorable Winnie the Pooh all over?  I don’t think so.

1. Disney Dalmatians Hooded Jacket $24.00 // 2. Disney Marie Hooded Jacket $24.00 // 3. Mickey Mouse Polo One Piece for Baby – Personalizable US$19.50 // 4. Winnie the Pooh Coverall for Baby US$19.50 // 5. Minnie Mouse Ballet Flat Shoes for Baby US$12.50 // 6. Patch Disney Cuddly Bodysuit for Baby – 101 Dalmatians US$14.50 // 7. Thumper Disney Cuddly Bodysuit for Baby US$14.50 // 8. Minnie Mouse Swimsuit for Baby US$19.50

What is your favourite Disney movie?

(Mine is The Little Mermaid… Look at this stuff, isn’t it neat? Wouldn’t you think my collections complete? Wouldn’t you think I’m the girl, the girl who has everything?)

Keep your little bub chic!

Avi

xoxo

Pregnancy Essentials

February 17, 2013 in Children

I have some news to share Shop Me Chicas…. I’m having a baby!!!

My husband and I are beyond excited to be starting this new chapter in our lives. I have had a reasonably good pregnancy so far – only a little nausea, so I’m counting myself lucky!

So with this exciting news to share with you all, I couldn’t think of anything better to write about than my pregnancy essentials (well my essentials for the 14 weeks I’ve been pregnant so far!)

1. Be Enlightened Tropical Coconut Candle ($37.00)

I have never really been a candle loving girl, sure they were pretty to look at, but I wanted something with an amazing scent and I could never find exactly what I was looking for. Then I stumbled across these puppies. The scents are amazing. I can light one of these candles, and the smell goes through the entire house. My favourite is the Tropical Coconut.

2. The Baby Closet Long Sleeve Bodysuit($49.50)

These 100% cotton jump suits are so adorable. I know these aren’t really a pregnancy essential, but I haven’t been able to stop buying cute baby clothes since after I reached 12 weeks! I really should stop until we find out what we’re having!!

3. What to Expect Pregnancy App (Free)

This app is great. It tracks how far along in the pregnancy you are, and gives you a great reference as to how big your baby is. Our baby is currently as big a navel orange! It also gives you a weekly breakdown of what is happening with your body and the baby, and a daily tip.

4. Potato Patch Closet Dividers ($13.45)

I needed something to sort the different size of all the clothes I have been buying – and these are the cutest things ever. I purchased the woodland themed dividers, if these aren’t you style, there are many other designs to choose from.

5. Therapeutic Pillow Australia Cuddle Up Pillow ($99.00)

I did not know comfort until I bought this pillow! It is amazing. It hugs your whole body and provides such great support. I highly recommend this pillow!!

What are your pregnancy essentials? I would love any tips you have!

Stay Chic,

Melissa xx

Chic Up Your Kid’s Space: Transport

February 15, 2013 in Children

Welcome to another edition of Chic Up Your Kid’s Space!

One of the best things about writing for Shop Me Chic is using ‘research’ as an excuse to do some shopping! Today, I’m doing it a little backwards and using this post as research before I do my shopping!

You see, my youngest little boy has just gone into a big boy bed (cue a few tears from this Mumma!). And by big boy bed, I really mean his cot has been transformed into a toddler bed but we will be buying him a new toddler bed at some point over the coming months which means one thing – a room makeover!

I want to deck his little space out with transport pieces – cars, trucks, planes, maybe even the odd boat! As for colour schemes, I’m not sure where we are at yet however this post has given me a few ideas to get started.

1. Hugs & Inspiration Personalised Print from Little Boo-Teek ($89.00) // 2. Framed Transportation Alphabet Print from Down That Little Lane ($69.95)// 3. Rosemonde Et Michel Coudert Bi Plane Light from Down That Little Lane ($69.95) // 4. Decorative Throw Cushion Cover – Set of 2 from Etsy ($33.75) // 5. Tiger Tribe Kido Tip Truck from Little Boo-Teek ($25.00) // 6. Green Car Hanger from Down That Little Lane ($25.00) // 7. Dwell Studio Transportation Cot Quilt from The Baby Closet ($110.00) //

Did you get emotional when your baby said goodbye to his cot days? What theme is in your little ones space?

Stay Chic,

Melinda xx

The Friday Five

January 25, 2013 in Children, Fashion

Can you believe it is the last Friday of January already?! Where has this month gone? Probably the same place that 2012 flew to…

For me, this past month has seen us finalise wedding plans and start to get excited about just how close The Big Day really is. We’ve also had the roof go on our extension and the inside start to take shape. I cannot tell you how excited I will be to FINALLY have a bathroom, kitchen and laundry after nearly 8 months!

We celebrated our friends’ son’s 1st birthday, which was a great afternoon. He is a delightful little boy whose smile lights up his entire face. At the request of his lovely mother, we bought him some clothes to see him through the rest of the Summer. I immediately hit up The Iconic and found some very cute little items.

My hen’s night is coming up in a couple of weeks, completely organised by my 4 beautiful bridesmaids. Yes, this control freak super organised Virgo relinquished control and let them plan whatever they liked. Sort of. But I did find a gorgeous Zimmermann number to make me feel chic and special, no matter what embarrassing game they might make me play…!

And finally, I suffer a lot from headaches. This is due to me having a bad back (I had spinal surgery when I was 15 years old) and carrying all my tension in my neck and shoulders. So what’s a girl to do when she’s stuck on the couch with a terrible headache? Pop some Nurofen, pour a cup of tea and hit up the sale section of the Styletread website of course!

So as you probably know, on the last Friday of every month, Melinda and I take turns to round up our five favourite products for the month.

Here’s my Friday Five for January (which all just happen to be on sale – score!)…

1. Zimmermann Silk Lace Back Dress (on sale $200.00) // 2. Marquise ‘Little Chief’ Top and Short Set from The Iconic (on sale $20.97) // 3. Diavolina ‘Willie’ Loafers from Styletread (on sale $23.90) // 4. Max and Tilly ‘Submarine’ Polo T-Shirt from The Iconic (on sale $11.97) // 5. Bebe ‘Callum’ Star Print Boardies from The Iconic (on sale $17.97)

What products have you been loving this month? Share with us!

Stay Chic,

Sonia

Daycare Days

January 7, 2013 in Children

Happy 2013 everyone!! I hope you all had a fabulous festive season and a happy start to the new year.

What a year 2012 was and what a year 2013 is already turning out to be! Just quietly (I don’t want to jinx it!) but I think it’s going to be a good one.

Each new year brings a round things to do such as getting organised for the year (more on that from Sonia tomorrow), making (and breaking!) resolutions and preparing children to go back to daycare or school.

My 3 year old will be starting his new daycare in a few weeks and I’m so nervous! Last year he went two days per week to a centre in Brisbane which we absolutely loved and I guess I’m just feeling a little unsure of the new centre (but I’m sure that will change once he actually starts).

To kick off the first Shop Me Chic post of the year, I’m sharing a few of my daycare essentials…

1. JamBerry Fitted Sheet Set from Lime Tree Kids ($59.95) // 2. BobbleArt Canvas Traffic Back Pack from Mini Chatterbox ($34.95) // 3. Personalised Round Name Labels from TinyMe ($19.95 for 42 labels) // 4. Ben Whales Hat from Oobi ($24.95) // Small Bobble Kids Bottle from Your Home Depot ($9.95)

Are you busy getting ready for the return of the school year? How’s 2013 treating you so far?

Stay Chic,

Melinda xx

Baby Christmas Outfits

December 20, 2012 in Children

As Christmas Day approaches I am mentally checking off the ever growing to do list and to be honest, I am starting to feel a little burnt out.

I know, I know, just last week I was singing carols and buying stocking stuffers with more enthusiasm than Mrs Claus but throw in two road trips from Brisbane to Townsville (the things we do so our toddlers can go to a Wiggles concert!), settling into a new house and adjusting to the heat and I’m quite ready for this whole Christmas thing to be over.

In saying that, I do what I’m sure most mums do and put on a happy face and bake Christmas cookies with my three year old while having in depth discussions about Santa, his reindeer and whether he would prefer a Corona or a glass of milk left out for him on Christmas Eve (for the record, I think Santa is hoping for a Corona!).

Despite my Grinch days lately, one thing I still enjoy is picking out festive outfits for the boys to wear over the holiday season. Whether it is for Christmas Day or their Santa photos, I love dressing the boys up even if they only stay dressed and clean enough for me to take a quick snap!

Today I have a few shopping suggestions to add some festive spirit to your baby’s outfit…

1. Baby Santa Bear Bodysuit from Seed ($39.95) // 2. Baby Girl Mouse Mary Jane from Seed ($39.95) // 3. Boys First Walker Sandal from Pumpkin Patch ($22.99 on sale) // 4. Christmas Dress Bodysuit from Purebaby ($27.97) // 5. Polo Grow Suit from Purebaby ($37.95) //  6. Sparkly Snap Clips from Twinkle & Spark ($4.95)

Fess up, are you feeling a little burnt out and ‘Grinchy’? Do you (and your little ones) dress up for the holidays?

Stay Chic,

Melinda xx

Christmas Gifts for Toddlers

December 3, 2012 in Children

We have been busy little bees compiling all kinds of gift idea posts for you: Secret Santa gifts, baby’s first Christmas gifts, Gifts for Men and pampering gifts for your beauty loving loved ones.

I actually love gift shopping and spend hours of researching before I make my final decisions.

Today we continue our gift guides with gifts for toddlers. All of these gifts are suitable for little boys or girls between the ages 1 – 3.

I’m particularly loving the Hess Rainbow Stacker from Little Boo-Teek. It is smaller than I expected and folds into a ring shape making it easy to throw in my bag and take when traveling. Essential for the Christmas season!

1. One Fish, Two Fish by Dr Seuss from The Book Depository ($8.17)

A Dr Seuss classic that was one of my favourite as a child (and if I am honest, it’s still one of my favourites!)

2. Hess Rainbow Stacking Toy from Little Boo-Teek ($29.95)

Like I said, this is such a great little toy to travel with. Plus stacking things like this are great to teach toddlers counting skills and colours.

3. Kids Craft Turntable from Peter’s Of Kensington ($23.00)

This will be under our Christmas Tree this year as part of my plan to tidy up our craft box. It also comes in red and pink and so far, Peter’s of Kensington stock this at the best price.

4. Melissa and Doug Stacking Train from Amazon ($13.50)

I’m not sure if I have mentioned this before but I love Melissa and Doug. I can’t wait to see my toddlers face as he unwraps his stacking train on Christmas morning!

5. Mocka Cowboys Tee Pee from Lime Tree Kids ($99.95)

I’ve become a bit Tee Pee obsessed. They are just so cute! I have finally narrowed it down to this one (I think), however if you have a little girl you may like to check out the pink ones!

What will be under the Christmas tree for your toddler this year? Is it just me or are toddlers so much fun to buy for?

Melinda xx

Baby’s First Christmas

November 26, 2012 in Children

We have been going absolutely crazy for Christmas. Christmas party dresses, Christmas decor for you child’s room and even some Secret Santa gift ideas all under $20.

I find the excitement of Christmas absolutely contagious. There is something so thrilling about the lead up – choosing gifts for your loved ones, listening to Christmas carols as you do the grocery shopping (I seriously love this!), baking Christmas cookies… just call me Mrs Claus until the New Year starts!

Celebrating your baby’s first Christmas is one of those big exciting milestones that usually rolls around a little too fast. With my first, I managed to maintain a balance of some fun and some practical presents. However, with my second I did go a little over board with clothes and toys, most of all (besides our beloved Sophie the Giraffe) aren’t used anymore.

Today’s gift ideas are a mixture of practical, sentimental and fun and perfect to help your baby unwrap on their very first Christmas day.

1. Wooden Money Box from Bambini Pronto ($11.99) // 2. EverEarth Name Train from Urban Baby (from $5.95) // 3. Mocka Rocking Horse from Lime Tree Kids ($49.00) // 4. Sophie The Giraffe from Toys R Us ($25.99 on sale) // 5. Baby’s First Christmas Nursery Art from Etsy ($29.45)

Do you have any ‘go to’ gifts for the all important First Christmas? Will Santa be dropping off any of these gifts to your house this year?

Stay Chic,

Melinda xx

Chic Up Your Kids Room: Christmas

November 22, 2012 in Children

Christmas fever has officially arrived at Shop Me Chic!

If you follow us on Pinterest, you will have seen our growing Christmas Chic board full of Christmas recipes, wrapping ideas and decorations.

Today, we are adding a bit of Christmas cheer to your very own little elf’s room!

Since becoming a mum, my excitement for Christmas has grown.

We do it all – getting the photo with Santa, decorate the tree, blast Christmas carols (the Michael Buble and She & Him kind!) and of course on Christmas Eve, we leave out carrots for the reindeer and a Corona for Santa!

This year, we won’t be home for Christmas Day but I am still looking forward to spreading some green and red decor throughout the boys room so that they can enjoy the Christmas season for as long as possible!

1. Holiday House Rules from Etsy ($17.78)

I’m excited to welcome these rules into our house this year. I love that they reinforce the most important things about the Christmas spirit – like the best gift of all, is love.

2. Noel Christmas Bunting from Shabby Sisters ($18.00)

Every house needs a little bit of holiday inspired bunting! Even if you are a little more Grinch than Mrs Claus, this is still festive without a lot of fuss.

3. The Elf On The Shelf ($29.95)

This will be our first Christmas with an Elf in our family and despite my fiance making fun of my excitement, I am looking forward to starting a new tradition with the boys (in particular, reminding my head strong three year old that Santa’s elf is always watching!). If you’re not familiar with Elf On The Shelf, you can check it out here.

4. Christmas Reindeer Pillow from Etsy ($20.74)

Apart from it’s darling appearance, this pillow is the perfect way to teach your little Christmas enthusiast the names of all of reindeers!

5.  Personalised Santa Sack from Stuck On You ($49.95)

A Santa Sack makes the perfect Christmas decoration throughout December and a beautiful place for Santa to place presents to be opened on Christmas morning. At the moment, I’m torn between ordering these ones for the boys (did you notice I snuck in one for Addison…?!) or these My Munchkin ones from Lime Tree Kids.

What are your Christmas traditions? Do you decorate your house from top to toe for the holidays?

Stay Chic,

Melinda xx

*Elf On A Shelf was gifted to me in accordance with our disclosure policy.

Summer Hats for Kids

November 20, 2012 in Children

There has been a lot of chatter about hats on Shop Me Chic lately – Sonia has covered floppy hats, fedoras and even a cowboy hat or two!

Today we are bringing hats that are smaller in size but just as big in style!

Hats for kids are not just for sun protection (though that’s the most important part) but also a fun way to accessorise their outfits, particularly boys who don’t really take interest in the world of pretty headbands and sparkly shoes!

Oobi hats are a favourite in our household. In fact, between both of the boys, we have had more than three of those Oobi truck print hats in various sizes (I’m slightly obsessed with Oobi – especially the truck print!).

Whether you are off to the beach, a BBQ or just running around the backyard, we have five super cute hats to have your little lad or lady staying sun safe in style!

1. Oobi Denim/Truck Hat from Ten Little Indians ($19.96) // 2. Milk & Soda Charlotte Straw Hat from Little Boo-Teek ($39.95) // 3. All Apples Fedora from Hootkid ($23.95) // 4. The Weekend Fedora from Hootkid ($23.95) // 5. Kooringal Kids Jimmy Bucket Hat from Birdsnest ($16.95)

Do you ever buy multiple sizes in children’s pieces you love? Do you share my Oobi obsession?

Stay Chic,

Melinda xx
