3 Ways To Springify Your Look

July 26, 2012 in Fashion

We may still be in the midst of Winter, but judging by a lot of Tweets and Facebook posts, most of us are pining for the warmth and sunshine of Spring. So while we may not be able to change the weather, we can start buying a few pieces to brighten up our days and to also see us through to the fabulous Summer ahead.

Here are three ways to Springify your look!

1. Clare Vivier Neon Stripe Clutch from Shopbop ($139.50)

2. Lady Fox Accessories Emerald Cut Crystal Necklace ($95.00)

3. ModCloth ‘A-Head Of Trends’ Scarf ($19.99)

4. Nerine Anne Designs ‘Zara’ Earrings in Aqua ($22.00)

There’s nothing like a bright piece of jewellery, scarf or bag to liven up a Winter outfit. I love the fun and colourful print of the ModCloth scarf, which would look awesome with a denim jacket no matter what the season. And lately I’ve been distracted from the news on The Project thanks to Carrie Bickmore rocking some fabulously sparkly Lady Fox Accessories necklaces. If you haven’t already, be sure to check them out.

1. Forever New ‘Piper’ Skater Skirt ($59.99)

2. Ally Fashion Double Peplum Jacket ($34.99)

3. Ally Fashion Peplum Waist Skirt ($19.99)

4. Topshop Premium Sequin T-Shirt Dress ($117.00)

Some beautiful trends to add to your Winter wardrobe now that will see you all the way through Spring and Summer are florals, metallics, brights and peplum. When buying into a trend, only spend as much as you can afford. That way if the trend doesn’t continue next season or if you are just plain over it, you haven’t over-invested in that piece. Save your pennies for the classics but have fun mixing them with trends.

1. Novo Shoes ‘Clay’ Ballet Flats ($39.95)

2.  Verali ‘Lizzy’ Heels from StyleTread ($79.95)

3. Topshop ‘Melinda’ Ballet Flats ($54.00)

4. Steven ‘Amplifyd’ Heels from Shopbop ($152.10)

Metallic, neons and brights can also be rocked on your…feet! These amazing and affordable Novo ballet flats were brought to my attention thanks to Andrea at Fox In Flats. Loving the mix of neon and neutral together in one shoe. And of course I couldn’t go past these Topshop flats – not only because they are gorgeous, but also because they are named after my fabulous Shop Me Chic partner in crime!

How will you be bringing Spring into your wardrobe over the coming weeks?

Stay Chic,

Answer Me Chic: Hot Winter Hen’s Night

May 24, 2012 in Fashion

One of our lovely readers, Karina is getting married and we all know that an important part of the wedding plans (besides actually marrying the love of your life) is of course the Hen’s Night. Karina’s Hen’s Night is in July and she has asked us to find some cold weather appropriate outfits that are still smoking hot.

The key to any gorgeous Winter outfit is layers. This is especially true for nights out – you want a jacket for when you are walking from the restaurant to the bar and then you need to be able to throw it off and hit the dancefloor in a fabulous number with cocktail in hand. Also, remember that black is not boring – it’s chic and timeless and a great base for any outfit. You can make a statement with your accessories. And most importantly, have fun with this!

So pop the champers and crank up the music, here are some Hen’s Night outfits worthy of a big night out…

Outfit 1: The Print Dress

Prints are are a big trend for the coming seasons, so why not base your outfit around a gorgeous print dress like this one from Forever New. You can keep the rest of the outfit simple by adding a great coat, some ankle boots and of course a bit of bling! If you’ve got a spray tan happening, then get those pins out. If it’s a little too chilly, then simply add some black opaque tights.

1. Forever New ‘Erin’ Ring Set ($14.99)

2. Colette ‘Stitch Panel Enamel Turn-Lock Clutch’ ($34.95)

3. ASOS ‘Bauble Interlink Circle Drop Earrings’ ($30.60)

4. Forever New ‘Rosie’ Dress ($199.99)

5. Cotton On ‘Lucci’ Cocoon Coat ($79.95)

6. Zu ‘Phoenix’ Ankle Boot (on sale $90.00)

Outfit 2: Dressy Denim

You can’t go wrong with a great pair of jeans. Go for dark denim to make it dressy, add a fabulous top, a great pair of heels and you are good to go. What’s better is that by going for separates, you can mix and match them with other items in your wardrobe.

 1. Forever New ‘Aaliyah’ Charm Bracelet ($19.99)

2. Bardot ‘Night Leopard’ Top ($59.95)

3. Mavi ‘Alexa Sophisticated Stretch Jean’ from Birdsnest ($139.95)

4. Colette Sequin Turnlock Clutch ($34.95)

5. Supre Cuffed Sleeve Blazer ($50.00)

6. Dotti Covered Platform Heel ($59.95)

Outfit 3: A Fab Coat

This coat caught my eye and I thought it was a beautiful base for an outfit. Surprise everyone by revealing a pop of neon underneath and a leopard print clutch, and work that dancefloor like you mean business!

 1. Mimco Crystal Dome Stud Earrings ($89.95)

2. Ally Fashion Laser Cut-Out Skater Dress ($29.99)

3. Dotti Basket Stitch Cream Coat ($129.95)

4. PeepToe Crystal Ring ($49.00)

5. Forever New ‘Millie’ Clutch ($39.99)

6. Wittner ‘Zachary’ Heels ($179.95)

I hope I’ve been some help for you Karina, but more than that – I hope you have the best night out with your girls!

Stay Chic,

A Chic Trend: Prints

May 22, 2012 in Fashion

We’ve already covered the colour trends from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia (MBFWA) and we’ve also taken a closer look at the peplum trend. Another wearable trend to emerge from MBFWA are prints. Subtle. Bold. Digital. Clashing. The fun of prints is that you can wear them in any way that suits your style.

Here are some pieces that can easily be imprinted in your wardrobe…

Tops

A simple way to add a print to an outfit is to go for a printed top. It’s also incredibly versatile, as you can wear a printed blouse with your suit to work or a printed top with jeans and ballet flats on the weekend.

Lucy In The Sky ‘Miss Freaky’ Top ($39.00)

ModCloth ‘Love Letterpress’ Top ($49.99)

Nasty Gal ‘Starburst’ Top ($38.00)

Bottoms

A fun way to rock the print trend is to do it down below…! Printed pants, skirts or leggings are a fab way to add a point of interest to an otherwise simple outfit.

Junk ‘Everlong’ Pant from Freez (on sale $20.00)

Cocolatte Purple Snake Print Skirt ($14.99)

Supre ‘Essex’ Printed Tights ($20.00)

Dresses

And finally the ultimate way to make a statement with prints – the dress. For day or evening, a print dress is a great go-to and instant outfit for embracing the print trend.

Maurie & Eve Ikat Print Peplum Dress from All About Fashion ($179.00)

Ally Fashion Digital Print Skater Dress ($45.00)

Princess Polly ‘Only Once’ Dress ($75.00)

Will you be wearing prints this Spring/Summer 2012-13?

Stay Chic,

Sonia. xx

Celebrity Chic: Beyonce

May 11, 2012 in Fashion

It’s no secret that the Shop Me Chic team love taking style inspiration from celebrities. Our Celebrity Chic posts are always fun for us to write and (we hope) fun for you to read!

This outfit rocked by new celebrity mum Beyonce, combines three things I love: colour, leopard and layering.

I think this is a great outfit because it is effortlessly chic. Throw on a scarf and a jacket over your plain t shirt + jeans combo and you’re ready for the school drop off or lunch with a friend.  Or, swap your bag for a statement clutch (we know some amazing clutches!), the boots for heels and add some eyeliner to dress up this look for night.

Here is our take on this outfit:

1.  Double breasted jacket from Ally Fashion

2. Seed nail polish in Dark Plum from Seed

3. Classic T-Shirt from ASOS

4. Machester Super Skinny Jean from Forever New

5. Tame Animal Scarf from Sportsgirl

6. Willow Boot from Rubi

What do you think of our take on Beyonce’s outfit? Which piece is your favourite?

Stay Chic,

Melinda. Xx

Top 5 Winter Textures

April 5, 2012 in Fashion

Winter fashion not only means getting to wear lots of layers, but also lots of textures as well.

Shop Me Chic’s Top 5 Winter Textures are:

  1. knit
  2. leather
  3. lace
  4. velvet
  5. faux fur

The beauty of these textures is that they can be worn solo or you can incorporate a few into the one outfit. Here are our picks of the bunch.

Knit

Knit is a classic winter texture. Who doesn’t love getting rugged up in a cosy knit? It is also incredibly versatile, can be dressed up or down and looks great as a tunic, jumper or cardi – as seen below.

Bardot Salt & Pepper Cardi – $129.95

French Connection Lady Owl Long Knit - $99.95 (currently on sale)

Sussan Block Stripe Tunic – $89.95

Leather

Leather is an investment worth making. Leather never goes out of style and can be worn with just about anything. And the more worn in your leather is, the better it gets. How many investments can you say that about?!

ASOS Collarless Leather Biker Jacket – $194.64

Wish ‘Mania’ Leather Shorts from Alibi Online – $149.95

Portmans Leather Swing Skirt – $149.95

Lace

Lace is the ultimate ladylike texture. It says sophistication and style. Lace can also be exciting when mixed with a tough texture like leather. But why limit yourself to clothing when it looks just as fab in accessories…

Karen Millen Lace Clutch – $89.00

ASOS Lace Dress – $72.99

Forever New ‘Charlotte’ Heels – $99.99

Velvet

Velvet has made a major comeback for Winter and for good reason – it looks so luxe and has a bit of a hippy chic vibe to it. Navy seems to be the colour du jour for velvet this season, as seen in the picks below.

PeepToe ‘Miss Munroe’ Velvet Heel - $199.00

Boys Club Velvet Blazer from Glue Store – $229.99

PeepToe ‘Lady Velvet’ Clutch – $129.00

Faux Fur

No need to get the flour out (right Kim K?!)…this type of fur is animal friendly!! Faux fur is super cosy and super chic and adds an interesting texture to even the simplest outfit.

Bardot ‘Bowie’ Faux Fur Jacket – $50.00

Forcast Pearl Faux Fur Beret from The Iconic – $25.00

Ally Fashion Faux Fur Gillet - $39.99

So there you have it – Shop Me Chic’s Top 5 Winter Textures.

What are your favourite textures for winter?
