Answer Me Chic: From Infant to Toddler Room

June 22, 2012 in Children

We love putting to use our shopping addictions to help solve your shopping dilemmas which is why we run Answer Me Chic. While typically the Answer Me Chic posts are fashion related, we are always up for a challenge and happy to help with anything beauty, children or lifestyle related. Today we have an reader request from Jacquie who was looking for some bedroom inspiration for her toddler. In particular, Jacquie wanted white furniture and some good storage ideas as well as colour – bright blue, lime green, grey and orange.

We used these pictures as our inspiration

Answer Me Chic: Winter Workwear

June 19, 2012 in Fashion

We love hearing from our fabulous Shop Me Chic readers (or Chicettes as we like to call you), especially when we can help you out.

We recently received an email from Anya asking for some winter workwear advice…

“Hi Sonia and Melinda! I’m looking for some winter work inspiration (something other than Portmans because I seem to own their entire store at the moment). I need to be slightly corporate (meeting clients most days). Any ideas/advice?”

We’ve come up with 3 simple ways to revamp your winter work wardrobe without breaking the bank…

1. Blouses

Working in a corporate office myself, I am a big fan of blouses. They add an element of fashion and femininity to your outfit. The great thing about a blouse is that you can find them in every pricepoint and there are so many styles and prints to choose from.

ModCloth ‘Star-fishing For Compliments’ Blouse ($37.99)

Topshop Willow Print Pussybow Blouse (approx $72.80)

Funktional Stripe Fold Front Blouse from Shopbop (approx $113.38)

2. Accessories

Accessories are the easiest way to give your outfit a new lease on life. In winter, scarves take centre stage as they not only look super cute, but keep you nice and warm too. A statement necklace is a great way to dress up a plain top or shirt and some gorgeous earrings can make a simple ponytail look extremely chic.

Nerine Anne Designs ‘Summer Bliss’ Necklace ($38.00)

Forever21 Zigzag Patchwork Scarf (approx $8.92)

Diva ‘Neon Glam’ Earrings ($14.99)

3. Shoes

Neutral seems to be the palette du jour in corporate offices – think black, white and grey. Not only is it easy to throw a neutral outfit together, but you can count on it to look sophisticated and work appropriate. A fun way to brighten up a neutral outfit is with a pop of colour on your feet.

Lipstik ’Ita’ Heels from StyleTread ($79.95)

Fiebiger Shoes ‘Rendezvous’ Flats from The Iconic ($39.95)

BCBGeneration ‘Cielo’ Heel from Piperlime (on sale $63.60)

We hope we’ve inspired your winter work wardrobe Anya and have added a little bit of colour to your weekdays.

How do you reinvent your workwork in winter?

Stay Chic,

Sonia. xx

Answer Me Chic: Hot Winter Hen’s Night

May 24, 2012 in Fashion

One of our lovely readers, Karina is getting married and we all know that an important part of the wedding plans (besides actually marrying the love of your life) is of course the Hen’s Night. Karina’s Hen’s Night is in July and she has asked us to find some cold weather appropriate outfits that are still smoking hot.

The key to any gorgeous Winter outfit is layers. This is especially true for nights out – you want a jacket for when you are walking from the restaurant to the bar and then you need to be able to throw it off and hit the dancefloor in a fabulous number with cocktail in hand. Also, remember that black is not boring – it’s chic and timeless and a great base for any outfit. You can make a statement with your accessories. And most importantly, have fun with this!

So pop the champers and crank up the music, here are some Hen’s Night outfits worthy of a big night out…

Outfit 1: The Print Dress

Prints are are a big trend for the coming seasons, so why not base your outfit around a gorgeous print dress like this one from Forever New. You can keep the rest of the outfit simple by adding a great coat, some ankle boots and of course a bit of bling! If you’ve got a spray tan happening, then get those pins out. If it’s a little too chilly, then simply add some black opaque tights.

1. Forever New ‘Erin’ Ring Set ($14.99)

2. Colette ‘Stitch Panel Enamel Turn-Lock Clutch’ ($34.95)

3. ASOS ‘Bauble Interlink Circle Drop Earrings’ ($30.60)

4. Forever New ‘Rosie’ Dress ($199.99)

5. Cotton On ‘Lucci’ Cocoon Coat ($79.95)

6. Zu ‘Phoenix’ Ankle Boot (on sale $90.00)

Outfit 2: Dressy Denim

You can’t go wrong with a great pair of jeans. Go for dark denim to make it dressy, add a fabulous top, a great pair of heels and you are good to go. What’s better is that by going for separates, you can mix and match them with other items in your wardrobe.

 1. Forever New ‘Aaliyah’ Charm Bracelet ($19.99)

2. Bardot ‘Night Leopard’ Top ($59.95)

3. Mavi ‘Alexa Sophisticated Stretch Jean’ from Birdsnest ($139.95)

4. Colette Sequin Turnlock Clutch ($34.95)

5. Supre Cuffed Sleeve Blazer ($50.00)

6. Dotti Covered Platform Heel ($59.95)

Outfit 3: A Fab Coat

This coat caught my eye and I thought it was a beautiful base for an outfit. Surprise everyone by revealing a pop of neon underneath and a leopard print clutch, and work that dancefloor like you mean business!

 1. Mimco Crystal Dome Stud Earrings ($89.95)

2. Ally Fashion Laser Cut-Out Skater Dress ($29.99)

3. Dotti Basket Stitch Cream Coat ($129.95)

4. PeepToe Crystal Ring ($49.00)

5. Forever New ‘Millie’ Clutch ($39.99)

6. Wittner ‘Zachary’ Heels ($179.95)

I hope I’ve been some help for you Karina, but more than that – I hope you have the best night out with your girls!

Stay Chic,

Sonia. xx

Answer Me Chic: Flat Out

May 15, 2012 in Fashion

One of our lovely loyal readers, Eloise recently had ankle surgery and had been getting around in a moonboot until now. Her doctor has given her orthotics to wear in her shoes, and so Eloise has asked us to find her some cute flat boots to see her through the winter months.

Here are a few different styles that will be able to work back with any outfit you already own and maybe even inspire a few new ones…

Flat Ankle Boots

Flat ankle boots look great with skinny jeans or leggings tucked in, or with tights and dresses. Classic colours such as black and tan are always in fashion and why not add a bit of fun and go for a bright colour or interesting print like my personal favourite, leopard.

Cotton On ‘Holly’ Ankle Boot

Therapy ‘Bryant’ Ankle Boot

Wittner ‘Sydel’ Ankle Boot

Flat Knee High Boots

The knee high boot is such a flattering length of boot for most people and definitely a must-have in your shoe-drobe. Flat knee high boots are great for winter weekends or casual weekdays, and you can never have too many colours or styles.

Dotti ‘Buckle Up’ Knee High Boot

RMK ‘Zola’ Knee High Boot

Valeria Grossi ‘Eden’ Knee High Boot from The Iconic

Flat Over The Knee Boots

If you want to make a statement with a boot, then go over the knee!! Try them on and make sure they elongate your leg so that you walk out feeling like a Victoria’s Secret model with legs for days…What? A girl can dream!!

Tony Bianco ‘Pia’ Over The Knee Boot

Forever New ‘Ollie’ Over The Knee Boot

Ko Fashion ‘Laken’ Over The Knee Boot from Shoe Shed

We hope you’re back your feet (literally) very soon Eloise, and in the meantime make the most of the cooler weather and rock your flat boots in style!!

Answer Me Chic: Top Your Winter

April 24, 2012 in Fashion

With Winter popping its head around the corner, we received a tweet from Steph of Lipstick & Cake:

“Hi @ShopMeChic! I need your help. Looking for casual tops for winter (not jumpers though). Suggestions?”

Winter is the best season for layering, so a big thick jumper is not always necessary. Here are some gorgeous Winter tops that you can make work for you…

Raglan Tees

Cute and casual, raglan tees have a sporty feel and look great with a pair of jeans, a vest and some Converse sneakers.

Stussy ‘Rowery’ Raglan from General Pants ($59.95)

All About Eve ‘Westside’ Raglan from The Iconic ($49.95)

Mad Love ‘Mi Amigo’ Raglan from SurfStitch ($69.95)

The Tunic

The tunic is a personal favourite of mine. It looks fabulous on its own or over leggings, tights or jeans. A versatile piece that every woman should definitely have in her wardrobe as it suits most body types. Belt it, wear it loose…whatever your choice, embrace the tunic!!

Katies 3/4 Sleeve Animal Print Tunic ($49.95)

Sportsgirl Bretton Stripe Tunic ($59.95)

Mossée Scoop Neck Ruffle Side Tunic from The Iconic ($175.95)

Oversized Shirt

And another favourite of mine…!! The oversized shirt can either be casual or dressy, worn to work during the week or socialising on the weekend. Here are a few that can be worn whenever, wherever.

 Bardot ‘Palermo’ Blouse ($69.95)

Yarra Trail ‘Abstract’ Shirt from Birdsnest ($109.00)

Sussan Pintuck Check Shirt ($79.95)

The Kaftan

Who says a kaftan has to be restricted to the beach and holidays in Bali?! The kaftan has a part-boho, part-rock’n'roll vibe to it and can be paired with leggings, jeans or leather pants. Shake it up and try rocking a kaftan.

Suboo ‘Laguna Beach’ Mini Kaftan from The Iconic ($249.00)

Boom Shankar ‘Nenni Kurta’ Kaftan from Birdsnest ($79.00)

Camilla ‘Fethiye’ Lace Up Kaftan ($429.00)

There you go Steph, four different alternatives to a jumper. Hopefully this post has inspired your Winter wardrobe just a little.

If you’ve got a fashion question, be sure to tweet or email us!!

Answer Me Chic: Trench Coat, Not Lab Coat

April 10, 2012 in Fashion

We put the call out to our lovely Twitter followers to solve any fashion challenge they might have and Katie of Mumma On The Run quickly replied:

“I have a white trench coat which I have no idea how to wear without looking like I work in a lab!! Help!!”

Once we said that we could help, Jaclyn then chimed in with a similar sentiment:

“Yes please! I also have a white trench that has been sitting in my wardrobe for 2+ years and has been worn once.”

OK girls, time to pull out those white trench coats cos here are three ways to look super chic and not super geek…

Michael Kors Trench from Amazon – $110.00

Outfit 1: Weekend Casual

This outfit is perfect for the weekend, when you are grabbing a much needed coffee, catching up for brunch with a fabulous friend or giving your little one ”just one more push” on the swings.

1. Cheap Monday Sunglasses from The Iconic – $50.00

2. Ivys Knit Scarf from Birdsnest – $20.95 (on sale)

3. Betty Basics Top from Birdsnest – $22.95

4. Billie Shoes ‘Poppy’ from SurfStitch – $29.95

5. Jag Mid Rise Boot Jean – $99.95

Outfit 2: Date Night

Time to glam up that trench with a knock out date night look. Keep it all black with accents of metallic to really take it to another level. The beauty of this outfit is that the dress can be worn with or without the skinny pants (weather and spray tan dependant). Va-va-voom!!

 1. Princess Polly ‘Miss You’ Dress – $70.00

2. Mimco ‘Reverie Armour’ Necklace – $249.00

3. Colette ‘Stud Front’ Clutch – $49.50

4. ASOS ‘Pluto’ Heel – $97.32

5. ASOS Leather Look Skinny Pant – $48.66

Outfit 3: Corporate Chic

Finally,  we’ve got a great look for the office. Tailored pants and pussy bow blouse go together perfectly just like you and your Monday morning coffee. Add a ladylike suede heel and a fab bag, and you mean business lady!!

1. Forever New ‘Adelaide’ Blouse – $59.99

2. Wittner ‘Jagged’ Heels – $129.95

3. Witchery ‘Sateen’ Full Length Pant – $129.95

4. Mezi ‘Kelly’ Stud Earrings – $79.00

5. Kate Hill ‘Rikki’ Leather Tote Bag – $99.95 (on sale)

So there you have it ladies, three different looks that all work back with a white trench coat.

I hope your coats will be making an appearance soon – and be sure to tweet us a photo!!

Answer Me Chic: Playing In Winter

April 2, 2012 in Fashion

Today we have another Answer Me Chic post for one of our beautiful readers Jaclyn!

Hi Shop Me Chic Ladies

I have a Mummy Style challenge that I hope you can help me with.

As a Mum to two young boys we are constantly outside running, climbing, playing in puddles, and doing all of those things that boys love to do. In summer I generally stick to dresses and flats, and as a girly girl this suits me fine.

With winter approaching I am struggling to put together Mummy appropriate, comfortable and practical outfits that won’t break the bank, while still keeping touches of femininity.

Hopefully you can point me in the right direction.

 Jaclyn

For me, Winter is all about layering. There is no need to abandon your dresses when the temperature drops a little! I’ve put together two basic outfits that are practical, feminine and budget friendly plus easy to pair with other things you already have in your wardrobe!

This cute little lace dress is quite a bargain find from Princess Polly. Feminine yet practical when worn over a pair of leggings. Flat boots are a key staple for Winter plus your feet won’t feel as though they’re about to fall off after chasing the little ones around the park! The necklace adds a bit of sparkle but on days that need an extra layer, why not swap it for a scarf?

1. Dress from Princess Polly – $70

2.Betts Gun Boots from The Iconic – $89.99 (and free shipping!)

3. Small Knotted Necklace from Colette – $7.47

4. Skinny Legging Pant from ASOS – $25.95

I love the bright dress against the navy striped flats and the way the bangles tie it all together. The ASOS jeggings are a good little bargain to have in your wardrobe and will go with pretty much anything.

1. Sicilian Bangles from Ruby Olive – $30

2. Jegging in Washed Indigo from ASOS – $32.44

3.  The Zest Around Dress from Modcloth – $79.99

4. Taupe and Navy striped Walnut Ballet Flat from Birdsnest – $39.95

What are your tips for looking chic yet keeping warm in the Winter weather?

Stay Chic,

Melinda. Xx

Answer Me Chic: Change of State, Change of Style

March 26, 2012 in Fashion

Today’s post was requested by one of our readers, Tamasyn.

Hi girls, love the new website.

I have recently moved from Adelaide to Brisbane and all the mothers in the area dress like they are straight out of a Rivers commercial. I’m scared I might go down the same path. What suggestions do you both have on how I can dress for the school runs without looking like I’m over the top but still casual chic? And jeans aren’t always an option as it gets pretty steamy here. Thanks, I appreciate your advice.

Keep up the good work,

Tamasyn

As a fellow Brisbane girl myself, I can relate – I can’t wait for the weather to cool down a bit so I can throw on a pair of jeans and a scarf before I run out the door. In the mean time though, I turn to dresses! The three dresses I have chosen are quite simple but each has the ability to create lots of different looks.

Faithful Dress from Nasty Gal (also available in black)

I love this dress! Pair it with some cute flats and accessories in the warmer months or with boots and tights in the cooler months (and if you need some boots, check out Sonia’s picks for Winter!)

Mooloola Maxi Dress

I have this maxi and the mini version too. It’s been my best friend throughout Summer! Maxi dresses look effortlessly chic and can transition into the cooler weather by adding a cute, colourful cardigan.

Stripe layed dress from Katies

This dress is a great wardrobe staple (also available in black). Even paired with heels or wedges, it is still casual (yet chic) enough for the school pick up and can be dressed up further with a good blazer. The green jacket in the image comes in an amazing orange too and is currently on sale – clickety click here!

Of course there is also the ‘condom dress’ from Seed, a brilliant find by Mrs Woog and styled by Nikki from Styling you.

Do you have a fashion, beauty or children related request for Sonia and I? Send us a tweet or an email – we would love to hear from you!

Stay Chic,

Melinda. xx
