Baby Christmas Outfits

December 20, 2012 in Children

As Christmas Day approaches I am mentally checking off the ever growing to do list and to be honest, I am starting to feel a little burnt out.

I know, I know, just last week I was singing carols and buying stocking stuffers with more enthusiasm than Mrs Claus but throw in two road trips from Brisbane to Townsville (the things we do so our toddlers can go to a Wiggles concert!), settling into a new house and adjusting to the heat and I’m quite ready for this whole Christmas thing to be over.

In saying that, I do what I’m sure most mums do and put on a happy face and bake Christmas cookies with my three year old while having in depth discussions about Santa, his reindeer and whether he would prefer a Corona or a glass of milk left out for him on Christmas Eve (for the record, I think Santa is hoping for a Corona!).

Despite my Grinch days lately, one thing I still enjoy is picking out festive outfits for the boys to wear over the holiday season. Whether it is for Christmas Day or their Santa photos, I love dressing the boys up even if they only stay dressed and clean enough for me to take a quick snap!

Today I have a few shopping suggestions to add some festive spirit to your baby’s outfit…

1. Baby Santa Bear Bodysuit from Seed ($39.95) // 2. Baby Girl Mouse Mary Jane from Seed ($39.95) // 3. Boys First Walker Sandal from Pumpkin Patch ($22.99 on sale) // 4. Christmas Dress Bodysuit from Purebaby ($27.97) // 5. Polo Grow Suit from Purebaby ($37.95) //  6. Sparkly Snap Clips from Twinkle & Spark ($4.95)

Fess up, are you feeling a little burnt out and ‘Grinchy’? Do you (and your little ones) dress up for the holidays?

Baby’s First Christmas

November 26, 2012 in Children

We have been going absolutely crazy for Christmas. Christmas party dresses, Christmas decor for you child’s room and even some Secret Santa gift ideas all under $20.

I find the excitement of Christmas absolutely contagious. There is something so thrilling about the lead up – choosing gifts for your loved ones, listening to Christmas carols as you do the grocery shopping (I seriously love this!), baking Christmas cookies… just call me Mrs Claus until the New Year starts!

Celebrating your baby’s first Christmas is one of those big exciting milestones that usually rolls around a little too fast. With my first, I managed to maintain a balance of some fun and some practical presents. However, with my second I did go a little over board with clothes and toys, most of all (besides our beloved Sophie the Giraffe) aren’t used anymore.

Today’s gift ideas are a mixture of practical, sentimental and fun and perfect to help your baby unwrap on their very first Christmas day.

1. Wooden Money Box from Bambini Pronto ($11.99) // 2. EverEarth Name Train from Urban Baby (from $5.95) // 3. Mocka Rocking Horse from Lime Tree Kids ($49.00) // 4. Sophie The Giraffe from Toys R Us ($25.99 on sale) // 5. Baby’s First Christmas Nursery Art from Etsy ($29.45)

Do you have any ‘go to’ gifts for the all important First Christmas? Will Santa be dropping off any of these gifts to your house this year?

Stay Chic,

Melinda xx

Summer Baby

November 9, 2012 in Children

The countdown to Summer is officially on in my house!

At the beginning of each season, I have so much fun browsing for the boys and making a list of everything they both need added to their wardrobes.

I generally buy all of their clothes online which is a bit tricky at the moment as we are due to move. Our house is getting packed up on Monday and I plan to make a few online purchases from the hotel once we get to Townsville so that I’ll have a few packages once we arrive to the new house (if that doesn’t make me an online shopping addict, I don’t know what does!).

Today I’m sharing a few pieces from some of my favourite brands for babies such as Oobi, Seed, Sooki Baby and Bebe. While I haven’t road tested the pieces for baby girls, I’ve always loved the boys range from those brands and have no doubt the amazing quality extends to the girls ranges too.

Top on my list of Summer baby clothes to purchase is the Country Road ‘Enormous’ Elephant Tee (I might also be planning to order the Fox & Finch romper for my daughter Addison!)

Summer Baby Clothes

1. Fox & Finch Baby Shoulder Tie Bodysuit from Little Boo-Teek ($31.95) //2. Sooki Baby Pirate Ahoy Nappy Pant from Funky Little Fella ($24.95) // 3. Enormous T Shirt from Country Road ($24.95) // 4. Olivia Dress with Bloomer from Cotton On Kids ($29.95) // 5. Turtle Bodysuit from Seed ($39.95) // 6. Bebe Alfie Polo Romper from Little Boo-Teek ($34.95) // 7. Oobi Ruffle Bloomer from Little Styles ($24.95)

I’ve previously included the Bebe Alfie Romper in my 1st Birthday Gifts post but it is such a favourite in our house, that I had to include it again. Apart from being navy (my favourite colour at the moment!), the polo material complete with the collar makes it a little more dressy than a normal onesie yet still comfortable and practical for little boys to run (or crawl) around in!

What are your favourite brands for your little one? Are you counting down to Summer too?

Mini Celebrity Chic: Harper Beckham

October 12, 2012 in Children

Harper Beckham is one lucky little lady: three older brothers to watch over her, a spunky, athletic daddy (if you’re into that kind of thing) and her mum is Posh Spice!

She also has a wardrobe that most grown women would be envious of which is why we have chosen little Harper as our first baby girl in the Mini Celebrity Chic series.

Last month Harper sported this very cute ensemble while attending a fashion show for her mum’s label, Victoria for VB.

This Harper Beckham outfit is made up of three pieces which I consider to be staples in a little girl’s wardrobe: a white cotton Summer dress, a pair of sandals and a white hair bow.

1. Purebaby Woven Dress with Embroidery ($44.95) // 2. Saltwater Sandals in Tan from Little Pinwheel ($69.00) // 3. White Bow Headband from Etsy ($6.50)

I absolutely love this little Purebaby dress (I may have considered pressing the ‘add to cart’ button for a moment!). I’ve always been a huge fan of Purebaby for the boys. Their clothes are beautifully made, 100% cotton and feel so soft even after being washed time and time again.

Do you love Purebaby in your household? What do you think of little Harper’s outfit? What do you think life would be as the daughter of Posh Spice?

Carry-It-All: Stylish Baby Bags

April 3, 2012 in Children

Choosing the right baby bag is so important. It goes everywhere with you and holds all the essential items a mum could need.

I asked some very stylish mums what their advice was when it comes to choosing the perfect baby bag…

“I like big nappy bags and ones with heaps of pockets so I can ‘allocate’ things (socks, bibs, nappies) to different parts to make things easy to find. I want them to look pretty yet ‘manly’ enough that Mr doesn’t mind carrying it around too. Oh and nothing too gender specific. I want to be able to reuse the nappy bag down the track regardless of if we have another boy or a girl.” – Melinda (Mumma In Heels)

“It’s important to have quick access to things like keys and bottles, so slip pockets are very handy. It’s also great if a nappy bag comes with its own change mat, bottle warmer and a zip lock bag for any wet items like bibs. If a bag looks great too, then that’s a bonus!” – Amy (Absolute Amy)

“Why our Daddy Diaper Nappy Bag ticks all the boxes for us…insulated bottle holder; 3 large compartments (which can hold a variety of essentials such as rusks, food pouches, lip gloss, pens and teething toys), clips for stroller strap, large interior space to house everything you need for bubs when you are out and about (I seriously pack the kitchen sink in this bag). But the best aspect of this bag is this….There is a checklist for Dads which is screened on the magnetic flap, so no more worries about them leaving the nappies or wipes at home!- Katie (Mumma on the Run)

“Don’t assume size is everything – remember that you will probably end up carrying this bag around all the time. The bigger it is the more things you will try to put in there, the heavier it is. Think about your pram: what kind of handles does it have, how big is the storage basket? Remember that Dad is also going to have to carry this bag. You may think hot pink is in fact hot, Dad probably will not. While you are thinking about nappy bags also think about bottle holders and dummy covers. Some bags will come with them, other will not so you will have to purchase them separately. If you can’t find what you’re looking for in baby stores try luggage or leather shops. One of my favourite nappy bags was a leather bucket bag from a leather shop. I still use it all the time.” – Jaclyn (@ClassicJac)

“A practical bag that suits your style will become an all time favourite.” – Andrea  (Fox in Flats)

Now that we’ve covered what to look out for (and what to avoid), here are some fabulous nappy bags you can rock the playground with.

il Tutto Logo Tote – on sale $84.50

Baby, You’re Solid!

February 29, 2012 in Children

Starting solids is a hugely exciting milestone in your little ones life. It can also be emotional (they are growing up too quickly!) and a little scary especially if you’re a first time parent.

Here are Shop Me Chic’s favourite (practical, affordable and of course, chic) products to cover all of your solids needs.

Top 100 Baby Purees by Annabel Karmel

This is a great books with countless easy recipes. It starts with ‘first purees’ which are single vegetables or fruits, progresses to mixed purees (carrot and apple, banana and avocado etc) and goes right through to little risottos, pastas and other easy meals for an older baby.

At just $13.24 (and free shipping) from The Book Depository, there is no excuse not to try it out!

Qubies by Miinki Moop

Qubies are a fabulous way to store home made baby food, breastmilk or (when you move on from the puree phase) leftover stock, pesto etc.

They are BPA, Phthalate and PVC free, dishwasher friendly and each ‘qube’ holds 30mL of liquid.

Simply pour your babyfood into the tray, pop on the silicone lid and freeze. The non stick lid allows you to remove only the amount of cubes you need and put the rest back into the freezer.

Prices vary depending on the stockist. Babies R Us currently have them for $14.99.

Skip Hop Tuck Away Owl bib

This ticks all the boxes – chic, affordable and practical. This bib is water resistent, BPA free and has a velco closing, tuck away pouch for storing dirty bibs when you’re out and about.

$13.95 from Baby’s Got Style

Take & Toss Bowls with Lids

These little bowls come in a pack of six in a variety of bright colours. They are perfect for travelling, for snacks or even as bowls at home. They are BPA, Polycarbonate and Epoxy and are less than seven dollars from Big W.

Oobi Baby Bib in Whale print

This is a little more ‘chic’ than practical. Oobi make their bibs from 100% cotton with a towel backing and who can resist that cute whale print? Also check out the matching Sunday Suit!

$12.95 from Little Styles.

Food Face Plate

This isn’t just fun for your little one to eat off, but fun for mum or dad to ‘play’ with! This has been a huge hit with my toddler – to little ones, presentation is everything.

Available in ‘Ms’ (shown above) or ‘Fred’

Boon Groovy Interlocking Plate, Bowl and Cutlery set.

This little set has everything you need once your baby or toddler is determined to feed themselves. A bowl, a plate and two ‘dipping’ (or snack sized) bowls in bright, fun colours.

$17.60 with free shipping from Zanui

Do you have any favourite products for parents diving into the solids world?
