Get Her Chic: Amy From Absolute Amy

September 5, 2012 in Fashion

Welcome to the third instalment of Get Her Chic, the series where we take a peek into the wardrobes of our favourite bloggers and follow their fashion lead!

We’ve previously featured the beautiful Bec from My Bloggable Day and the magnificent Maria from Crashing Red.

Today we are lucky enough to have the amazing Amy from Absolute Amy…

Hi, I’m Amy – a wife and mum to a gorgeous 18 month old daughter. I adore fashion and food and all things beautiful. I have a blog called Absolute Amy where I talk about what I’m loving in life – a new candle, a great beauty product or a fab fashion find. You can also find me tweeting about what I’m loving here.

During the day I like to be comfortable by wearing clothes that are practical – usually jeans with a top or t-shirt, then I’ll add something interesting or fun to make me smile – colourful arm candy that I picked up on my travels or a beautiful scarf.

In this photo I was on holiday in the Greek Islands. The floral shorts jumpsuit is from Zara – I was in love as soon as I saw it! The floral pattern and gorgeous colours are perfect for Spring/Summer. The jewelled sandals are from Witchery, the hat is also from Zara and the arm candy is an assortment of bracelets I’ve collected on my travels and also from the fab Molly FB. My bag is Louis Vuitton and I’ve had it for a few years now, it’s been both stylish and practical with side slip pockets, perfect for carrying water bottles!

My daughter is wearing a pink dress that my Dad (Poppy Paul!) bought on his travels in South Africa, white sandals we found in Rhodes and her bow is from Chick Pea, a fantastic online kids accessories store.

Thanks to much to the gorgeous Melinda and Sonia for inviting me to guest post today, I am a big fan of Shop Me Chic and love how the girls cover everything from fashion to homewares and kids clothes.

Great work girls! A xxx

Here’s our take on Amy’s outfit…

1. Tigerlily ‘Rif’ Floppy Hat from SurfStitch ($69.95)

2. Witchery ‘Andy’ T-Bar Sandal ($79.95)

3. Mimco Mini Button Zip Top Bag ($399.00)

4. Colette Multi Stretch Stone Bracelets ($8.95)

5. Huntingbird ‘Miami’ Playsuit from SurfStitch ($79.99)

We love the way Amy has mixed casual pieces with a bit of bling to create a fabulous outfit that’s not only comfortable and practical, but looks great in holiday snaps too!

Are you one to rock a playsuit? What’s your favourite Summer holiday outfit?

Stay Chic,

Melinda & Sonia. xx

Colour Me Chic…Yellow

May 29, 2012 in Beauty, Fashion

This is such a fun series! We take a colour (turquoise and coral previously) and pick the very best fashion, accessories and beauty products in that particular colour.

Today we’re colouring your world the bright, sunny shade of yellow!

The easiest way to inject some yellow into your beauty routine is with nail polish. Pastel, bright, neon – let your fingers do the talking!

Nubar ‘Mello Yellow’ from Salon Style ($11.88)

Hello Darling in ‘Rubber Duckie’ ($18.95)

China Glaze ‘Lemon Fizz’ from Crush Cosmetics ($10.95)

A happy colour like yellow means accessories to make you smile. I’m loving the neon ’Flavia’ bag from Luxe by Lulu – how amazing is that colour?!

Colette Accessories Padlock + Stitching Wallet ($29.95)

Sportsgirl Bordered Gem Studs in ‘Amber’ ($9.95)

Luxe By Lulu ‘Flavia’ Handbag ($46.50)

Sometimes there’s nothing better than keeping your outfit incredibly simple and then having an unexpected pop of colour. The stunning Topshop neon lace dress is an outfit in itself.

Cocolatte Coloured Jeans ($14.99)

Dotti British Ponte Skater Skirt (on sale $29.95)

Topshop Neon Lace Flippy Dress (approx $73.92)

I’ve always had a weakness for statement shoes and these babies are definitely making a statement – loud and clear! The ASOS ballet flats would look especially cute with a pair of cuffed jeans, striped top and leopard print scarf. Of course I had to get leopard print somewhere in this post!

Topshop Platform Pointed Courts (approx $80.35)

ASOS ‘Lottie’ Leather Ballet Flats ($34.00)

Tony Bianco ‘JORCA2′ Heels from Wanted Shoes ($179.95)

And they are my yellow picks!

Want to join in with our Colour Me Chic fun? Tell us how you’re wearing yellow on Twitter with the hashtag #colourmechic or post a pic on Facebook!

We love hearing your suggestions, so let us know what colour you would like to see on our next Colour Me Chic post.

Stay Chic,

Sonia. xx

Answer Me Chic: Hot Winter Hen’s Night

May 24, 2012 in Fashion

One of our lovely readers, Karina is getting married and we all know that an important part of the wedding plans (besides actually marrying the love of your life) is of course the Hen’s Night. Karina’s Hen’s Night is in July and she has asked us to find some cold weather appropriate outfits that are still smoking hot.

The key to any gorgeous Winter outfit is layers. This is especially true for nights out – you want a jacket for when you are walking from the restaurant to the bar and then you need to be able to throw it off and hit the dancefloor in a fabulous number with cocktail in hand. Also, remember that black is not boring – it’s chic and timeless and a great base for any outfit. You can make a statement with your accessories. And most importantly, have fun with this!

So pop the champers and crank up the music, here are some Hen’s Night outfits worthy of a big night out…

Outfit 1: The Print Dress

Prints are are a big trend for the coming seasons, so why not base your outfit around a gorgeous print dress like this one from Forever New. You can keep the rest of the outfit simple by adding a great coat, some ankle boots and of course a bit of bling! If you’ve got a spray tan happening, then get those pins out. If it’s a little too chilly, then simply add some black opaque tights.

1. Forever New ‘Erin’ Ring Set ($14.99)

2. Colette ‘Stitch Panel Enamel Turn-Lock Clutch’ ($34.95)

3. ASOS ‘Bauble Interlink Circle Drop Earrings’ ($30.60)

4. Forever New ‘Rosie’ Dress ($199.99)

5. Cotton On ‘Lucci’ Cocoon Coat ($79.95)

6. Zu ‘Phoenix’ Ankle Boot (on sale $90.00)

Outfit 2: Dressy Denim

You can’t go wrong with a great pair of jeans. Go for dark denim to make it dressy, add a fabulous top, a great pair of heels and you are good to go. What’s better is that by going for separates, you can mix and match them with other items in your wardrobe.

 1. Forever New ‘Aaliyah’ Charm Bracelet ($19.99)

2. Bardot ‘Night Leopard’ Top ($59.95)

3. Mavi ‘Alexa Sophisticated Stretch Jean’ from Birdsnest ($139.95)

4. Colette Sequin Turnlock Clutch ($34.95)

5. Supre Cuffed Sleeve Blazer ($50.00)

6. Dotti Covered Platform Heel ($59.95)

Outfit 3: A Fab Coat

This coat caught my eye and I thought it was a beautiful base for an outfit. Surprise everyone by revealing a pop of neon underneath and a leopard print clutch, and work that dancefloor like you mean business!

 1. Mimco Crystal Dome Stud Earrings ($89.95)

2. Ally Fashion Laser Cut-Out Skater Dress ($29.99)

3. Dotti Basket Stitch Cream Coat ($129.95)

4. PeepToe Crystal Ring ($49.00)

5. Forever New ‘Millie’ Clutch ($39.99)

6. Wittner ‘Zachary’ Heels ($179.95)

I hope I’ve been some help for you Karina, but more than that – I hope you have the best night out with your girls!

Stay Chic,

Sonia. xx

Colour Me Chic…Turquoise

April 19, 2012 in Beauty, Fashion

This is a brand new post in the Shop Me Chic collection!!

Colour Me Chic will take a different colour and pick the very best fashion, accessories and beauty products in that particular colour.

Today, we’re colouring your world turquoise!!

The gemstone turquoise represents the star sign Sagittarius. The phrase “The Turquoise” refers to the waters of the Caribbean. In holistic medicine, the colour turquoise purportedly has a calming effect on patients. And the colour turquoise plays an important role in the Shop Me Chic logo.

Who knew this gorgeous little colour had so many purposes?!  Now let’s put it to good use the best way we know how…

OPI Nail Lacquer ’Fly’ by Nicki Minaj from Salon Style ($16.96)

MAC ‘Aquadisiac’ Eye Shadow ($33.00)

Illamasqua ‘Strike’ Nail Varnish (approx $21.43)

Turquoise is such a striking colour that really pops on nails and eyes. And if you’re feeling particularly daring – Illamasqua also does a turquoise lipstick. Would you??

Shabby Sisters ‘Turq Drop’ Earrings ($50.00)

Wild Bling ‘Lucite Crystal Choker’ ($49.00)

Luxe by Lulu ‘Cara’ Bracelet from the Amalfi Collection ($13.20)

It’s so easy – and fun – to rock super bright turquoise jewellery. And it was for this very reason I chose more subdued pieces, with the exception of the amazing Wild Bling choker, which I would save for weekend fun. The more understated pieces can be worn to work…as well as on the weekend.

Agent Ninetynine Slouchy Beanie from General Pants ($19.95)

Billabong Beanie Band from SurfStitch ($19.99)

NewUrban Mia Felt Fedora Hat (approx $68.75)

A fun and unexpected way to incorporate turquoise into your outfit is with headwear. A beanie, a headband or a hat…pop it on your head for a pop of colour!!

Forver New ‘Maley Paper Bag Short’ ($59.99)

ASOS Mini Dress With Contrast Piping ($58.00)

Sportsgirl ‘Cocoon Coat’ ($169.95)

Turquoise is one of the beautiful jewel tones hitting stores this winter and here are three different ways to incorporate this colour into your wardrobe. Such a gem of a colour!!

Tony Bianco ‘Fryer’ Heel ($169.95)

Wittner ‘Lee Lee’ Ballet Flat ($99.95)

Zu ‘Empress’ Heel ($150.00)

I love a coloured shoe to add a point of interest to an outfit. These gorgeous heels would be the ultimate exclamation point at the end of a fashion sentence…!!

ASOS Paul’s Boutique Satchel ($115.99)

Forever New ‘Sigourney’ Clutch ($24.99)

Colette Accessories ‘Minnie Square Turnlock Crossbody’ ($29.95)

And finally grab the finishing touch to your outfit before you head out the door – a lovely turquoise bag to carry you through Winter.

There you have it ladies. Are you all turquoised out now? No? Good!! Make sure you get into one of the most beautiful colours of the season.

What colour do you want to see featured next in Colour Me Chic?

Stay Chic,

Sonia. xx

Answer Me Chic: Trench Coat, Not Lab Coat

April 10, 2012 in Fashion

We put the call out to our lovely Twitter followers to solve any fashion challenge they might have and Katie of Mumma On The Run quickly replied:

“I have a white trench coat which I have no idea how to wear without looking like I work in a lab!! Help!!”

Once we said that we could help, Jaclyn then chimed in with a similar sentiment:

“Yes please! I also have a white trench that has been sitting in my wardrobe for 2+ years and has been worn once.”

OK girls, time to pull out those white trench coats cos here are three ways to look super chic and not super geek…

Michael Kors Trench from Amazon – $110.00

Outfit 1: Weekend Casual

This outfit is perfect for the weekend, when you are grabbing a much needed coffee, catching up for brunch with a fabulous friend or giving your little one ”just one more push” on the swings.

1. Cheap Monday Sunglasses from The Iconic – $50.00

2. Ivys Knit Scarf from Birdsnest – $20.95 (on sale)

3. Betty Basics Top from Birdsnest – $22.95

4. Billie Shoes ‘Poppy’ from SurfStitch – $29.95

5. Jag Mid Rise Boot Jean – $99.95

Outfit 2: Date Night

Time to glam up that trench with a knock out date night look. Keep it all black with accents of metallic to really take it to another level. The beauty of this outfit is that the dress can be worn with or without the skinny pants (weather and spray tan dependant). Va-va-voom!!

 1. Princess Polly ‘Miss You’ Dress – $70.00

2. Mimco ‘Reverie Armour’ Necklace – $249.00

3. Colette ‘Stud Front’ Clutch – $49.50

4. ASOS ‘Pluto’ Heel – $97.32

5. ASOS Leather Look Skinny Pant – $48.66

Outfit 3: Corporate Chic

Finally,  we’ve got a great look for the office. Tailored pants and pussy bow blouse go together perfectly just like you and your Monday morning coffee. Add a ladylike suede heel and a fab bag, and you mean business lady!!

1. Forever New ‘Adelaide’ Blouse – $59.99

2. Wittner ‘Jagged’ Heels – $129.95

3. Witchery ‘Sateen’ Full Length Pant – $129.95

4. Mezi ‘Kelly’ Stud Earrings – $79.00

5. Kate Hill ‘Rikki’ Leather Tote Bag – $99.95 (on sale)

So there you have it ladies, three different looks that all work back with a white trench coat.

I hope your coats will be making an appearance soon – and be sure to tweet us a photo!!

Stay Chic,

Sonia. xx

That One Thing: Clutches

April 9, 2012 in Fashion

Today’s ‘That One Thing’ post was requested by Kim-Marie. For new readers, That One Thing is where we find an item at three different price points. Today is a little bit special – for each price point we have not one, but two clutches: a neutral to go with any outfit and a statement clutch to really make an outfit pop!

Less Than $50

Donna Patent Quilt Clutch from Colette – $39.95

This may be a neutral but very much still a beauty too! Pair it with jeans, a blazer and coloured heels for day or with a LBD and a bright, red lip for night!

Lace Hardcase Clutch from Forever New – $49.99

Last Friday, Sonia showed off five fabulous textures to add to your wardrobe this Winter. If you haven’t got enough lace in your wardrobe, this lace (with a hint of sparke!) clutch is for you.

$50-$150

Coco Kitten Amy Clutch from The Iconic – $69.95

If there is one clutch from this post that you have to add to your wardrobe, it is this one. It’s 100% leather and a great wardrobe staple that can be paired with anything.

Lady Sensual Clutch from Peeptoe – $109

Now just between you and me, I consider leopard a neutral but I decided to put this in the ‘statement’ category anyway. Every lady needs a little bit of leopard in her life and this is perfect you’re not quite brave enough (yet!) to rock a leopard cardi or leopard print jeans.

Over $150

Vintage Princess Bag from Tony Bianco – $150 (On sale)

Once again, a neutral yet stunning clutch that would work with just about any outfit. This also comes in black or stone.

Raisa Snake Clutch from Oroton – $175 (On Sale)

When it comes to making statements, red is the absolute queen! Wear it with blacks and tans or go for a complete colour blocking outfit.

Are you a neutral or a statement kind of gal?

Stay Chic,

Melinda. Xx

So far on Shop Me Chic we have covered Black BlazersColoured Denim and Nude Heels in our ‘That One Thing’ posts.

A fabulous tote for the weekend, with reptile-inspired material and light gold fittings. This bag can transition through as many season changes and outfit changes as you can throw at it. And the icing on the cake? Kate Hill offers free shipping on all orders.

7 Sparkly Days of Cocktail Rings

March 14, 2012 in Fashion

Stylist extraordinaire Rachel Zoe and her fab TV show ‘The Rachel Zoe Project’ first introduced me to the sparkly world of cocktail rings. Rachel will often keep her clients’ outfits quite simple and let the accessories do all the talking – in particular a statement cocktail ring (or 2 or 3).

I love that cocktail rings can have such a spotlight effect on an outfit and can make you feel super glamorous so easily.

Now allow me to indulge myself you in an imaginary week of my life featuring 7 fabulous cocktail rings to help tell the sparkly story…

Monday

Mondayitis has struck in a major way and it’s not even 9am. No time to think about putting together an amazing outfit, so I throw on an ever faithful all-black ensemble. I add some crystal stud earrings and this Big Bow Ring, which instantly lifts my mood – especially when I’m clutching a skinny flat white and watching it sparkle so beautifully in the morning sun.

Big Bow Ring, Colette Accessories, $12.95

Tuesday

Unsure about whether to go with yellow or rose gold accessories, I embrace them both by slipping on this Harper Pave Oval Stretch Ring. I use the ring as inspiration and design my outfit around it – tones of cream, blush and caramel. I’m feeling fresh and ready to take on the day.

Harper Pave Oval Stretch Ring, Forever New, $14.99

Wednesday

Hump Day rolls around and with it, a day of meetings. What better way to dazzle (or distract) my colleagues than with this Oversize Crystal Flower Ring. The sparkly accessory seems to have the desired effect and is an instant mood lifter.

Oversize Crystal Flower Ring, Wild Bling, $29.00

Thursday

And so begins the downward slope towards the weekend. Looking ahead makes me want to glam up, so I call upon this stunning Sunburst Cocktail Ring. Taking my cue from Miss Nicole Richie herself, I get the curling wand out and rock some loose waves, a sassy attitude and a wry smile.

Sunburst Cocktail Ring, House of Harlow (from Miijo), $79.00

Friday

TGIF!! I’m in a playful mood so why not have some fun with my accessories?? This Lady Bug Ring is the perfect playmate to get me through the last working day of the week. Isn’t she a cutie?! We’re going to have some fun…

Red Lady Bug Ring, Wild Bling, $25.00

Saturday

Ahh Saturday, my favourite day of the week. The only day where you can do exactly as you please all day and all night. I want a versatile cocktail ring that can be worn casually during the day with a denim jacket and leopard print scarf, and dressed up with a gorgeous little black dress and heels in the evening. Enter this Angel Wings Ring in rose gold. Divine.

Angel Wings Rose Gold Ring, Wildfox Couture (from Miijo), $59.00

Sunday

It’s a beautiful sunny Sunday – the perfect reason to have a picnic in the park with some friends and their kids. Keeping my outfit cute and casual, I slip on this Minnie x Mawi Ring, knowing it will be a hit with the kids. Not to mention the adults too. Happy days…

Minnie x Mawi Pave Ear Dome Ring, Disney Couture (from Miijo), $99.00

When do you rock a cocktail ring?

Stay chic,

Sonia

Autumn Accessories

March 7, 2012 in Fashion

Autumn is officially here. To be honest, I’m kind of excited about it because the cooler weather brings the opportunity to wear more layers and…more accessories!!

Fashion is headed in a beautiful direction this season. There’s a lot of texture, jewel tones and vintage inspired detailing. Think ladylike and luxe.

Not quite ready to switch out your light and bright summer items for warm winter wear? Why not ease your way into the next season by updating your wardrobe with a few lovely transeasonal accessories.

Wide Brim Hat

The most common question asked about hats is: where would I wear one? I asked myself this very question while debating whether or not to put a leopard print hat on lay-by. The answer? Anywhere!! To a BBQ get together with friends on a cool Friday evening. To coffee with your besties followed by a spot of window shopping on a Saturday afternoon. To the park with the kids on a cool Sunday afternoon. Not to mention on any day of the week when you’re having a not-so-hot hair day. You’ve just got to have confidence.

While browsing the shops a couple of weekends ago, I was so impressed with the hats by Rubi at Cotton On. Not only are they super stylish, but they are also an extremely affordable way to buy into the trend. Available in Grey, Teal and Black, it’s this Bright Barberry colour that caught my eye…

Whitney Wide Brim Hat, Rubi @ Cotton On, $13.97

…and yes, I did lay-by that leopard print hat!!

Oversized Scarf

The oversized scarf is such a great way to take a simple outfit, such as a singlet, jeans and ballet flats, to the next fashion level. It can be draped around the neck, used as a shawl, or belted around the waist.

Sussan have the most amazing selection of accessories this season and this scarf is a great example. The Oversized Ikat Scarf features gorgeous shades of green and can be worn all the way through until Spring and even Summer.

Oversized Ikat Scarf, Sussan, $39.95

Statement Necklace

Another great way to trick up any outfit. If you follow fabulous fashionistas on Twitter, Instagram or via their blogs, you will notice that their outfit may be fairly simple but their necklace is anything but.

Diva are known for having the latest in accessories at affordable price points and this necklace is no exception. An online exclusive, the Autumn Multi Stone Collar Necklace features warm, rich colours and is a beautiful finishing touch to a transeasonal outfit.

Autumn Multi Stone Collar Necklace, Diva, $34.99

Coloured Tights

A trend walking its way into our lives this season is coloured tights. You can colour your pins every colour of the rainbow inexpensively and automatically change the look of every outfit you currently own.

Forever New have got this trend covered and their Microfibre Tights come in Black, Fuchsia, Cobalt Blue, Red, Ink Blue, Mustard, Purple and Peacock (as seen below).

Microfibre Tights, Forever New, $12.99

Vintage Inspired Belt

My name is Sonia and I’m a belt-a-holic. If I can belt it, I will. And so should you.

A belt is a great way to define or create a waist. You can also change the look of a dress by simply adding or changing a belt. This Dotti number features a beautiful vintage filigree design buckle and comes in Black and Cream.

Verona Filigree Belt, Dotti, $19.95

Mustard Bag

Mustard is not just a tasty condiment to spice up your food; it is also one of the colours of the season. So get ready to spice up your wardrobe.

Without a doubt, mustard can be a little overwhelming in the form of a dress or skirt or tights, so the next best way to incorporate this colour is with a bag. This Colette Accessories tote is a super chic, super cute addition to your Autumn Accessories.

India Bow & Belt Tote, Colette Accessories, $59.95

So tell me, will you buy into any of these Autumn Accessories?

Stay chic,

Sonia
