Summer Casual Chic

December 4, 2012 in Fashion

The days are getting hotter, and there’s really no better feeling than slipping out of your work wear after a long day and into some comfy casuals to head down to the beach for a sunset walk or to wander down to your local café for a gelati.

But just because you’re going casual doesn’t mean you can’t also be chic.

You can still incorporate the biggest trends of Summer 2012-13 – think neon, metallic and prints – with classic pieces to create a fabulous outfit while still being incredibly comfortable.

Here are some casual chic items to get you started…

1. Witchery Summer Low Back Dress in Coral ($129.95)

I love a dress that you can just throw on over your bathers (or nothing at all!) and it looks glam just as it is.

2. Novo ‘Seattle’ Sandals ($59.95)

Neutral with just the right amount of beading to give these sandals some lift.

3. Sussan ‘Carpenter’ Linen Shorts in Blush ($49.95)

Linen is such a lovely Summer fabric and these fab shorts come in a variety of colours including blush, lagoon (blue), crimson and golden kiss.

4. Seduce ‘Jet-Setter’ Shorts from Jour et Nuit ($109.95)

A great pair of tailored black shorts are always in style. An investment piece for sure.

5. Billini ‘Hannah’ Sandals in Leopard from StyleTread ($19.95)

Leopard print is always in fashion (in my opinion!) and at this price, you can afford to buy them in every colour.

6. Forever New ‘Bethany’ Floral A-Line Skirt ($49.99)

I love a good a-line skirt that sits above the knee. Fun, flirty and feminine.

7. Dotti Twist Strap Maxi Dress ($59.95)

Another fantastic “throw it on and go” dress in the maxi form. Love the stripes and the twist strap detail.

8. Forever New ‘Willow’ Neon Trim Swing Tank in Fluorescent Lime ($29.99)

I adore a swing tank – they are stylish yet forgiving! And this Forever New number is right on trend, with its pop of neon, which comes in lime or coral.

9. Esther ‘Beach Time’ Tank ($49.00)

Another cute stripey number that would look great with denim cutoffs or tailored shorts.

What’s your favourite casual chic outfit?

Hats off to Summer

November 8, 2012 in Fashion

We recently dreamed about all the ways we would wear a floppy hat this Summer. At the beach, in the backyard, at a BBQ. Anywhere that starts with a ‘B’ basically…!

But what if you just can’t or won’t do a great big floppy hat? Use your head and simply downsize your hat!

The trilby (or fedora or panama) hat has been in fashion for nearly every summer season that I can remember and is probably one of the easiest styles of hat to wear.

Rachel from Redcliffe Style rocked one in her recent Get Her Chic guest post and countless celebrities are spotted wearing one on their off duty days. It looks cool with any outfit or accessory, so you’ve got to give it props for versatility. Not to mention the fact it’s a great disguise for a bad hair day.

The other smaller style of hat perfect for Summer is the cowboy hat.

Now, before you holler “Yeeha! Pass me that bottle of moonshine!” – which celebrity springs to mind when you think of the cowboy hat? None other than Elle Macpherson. So while I’m never going to look as good as Elle in a bikini, at least I will look just as good in a cowboy hat!

The cowboy hat is just as versatile as the trilby and is another classic Summer wardrobe item worth investing in.

So if you want to be at the head of the fashion pack this Summer, here are some little gems…

1. Cotton On ‘Lacey’ Cowboy Hat ($16.95) // 2. Billabong Essential Cowboy Hat from SurfStitch ($35.99) // 3. Roxy ‘Dillon’ Cowboy Hat (on sale $20.99) // 4. Miss Shop Trilby Hat from Myer Online (on sale $22.46) // 5. Country Road Fluro Band Trilby ($49.95) // 6. Witchery Colour Block Trilby ($49.95) // 7. Jendi Cowboy Hat from The Iconic ($29.95) // 8. Dotti ‘Palm Springs’ Trilby Hat ($19.95)

What kind of hat will you be wearing this Summer? How do you like to wear yours?

Denim Duty

June 5, 2012 in Fashion

We’ve all got denim in our wardrobe. It’s been a fashion staple for many years, it suits most people and withstands the test of time and trends. So besides the faithful pair of perfect jeans, what other denim items could be added to your cart and to your list of favourites?

Let’s take a look…

 Dotti ‘The Blues’ Jacket ($79.95)

Somedays Lovin ‘Wild One’ Jacket from The Iconic ($89.95)

All About Eve ‘Sandy’ Jacket from SurfStitch (on sale $77.99)

The denim jacket is a great transeasonal item that can be worn over a floaty summer dress or with a jumper and scarf. And check out the surprise print on the back of the Somedays Lovin jacket – rrrrrroar!

Motel Dress from ASOS ($71.40)

Topshop Dress (approx $63.00)

Supre Skirt (on sale $15.00)

I remember rocking a denim dress in the 90s as a young teen. Boy, did I think I was cool in that little number. Well they’re back and so are denim skirts. I’m particularly impressed by the Topshop dress – who knew denim could be so sexy?!

Paris Hilton ‘Destiny’ Heels from Heels.com (on sale $80.74)

Converse All Star Trainers from ASOS ($79.90)

Giuseppe Zanotti Heels from Farfetch ($493.00)

A pop of denim on your feet is a bit of a fun way to incorporate this old faithful fabric into your outfit. Even Paris Hilton has the right idea with this cute design (I never thought I would utter those words…)!

Are you a denim diva? What are your favourite denim items in your wardrobe?

Stay Chic,

Floral Me Chic

June 1, 2012 in Fashion

We have been talking about trends a lot lately. We have covered prints and peplum and today, we bring to you… florals! Our aim is to help you incorporate these trends into everyday life. Florals is something I have found quite scary. I don’t think twice about wearing leopard print but for me, florals seem very loud (for lack of a better word!). All of these pieces can easily be paired with blacks or neutrals to tone it down or if you are feeling really brave, why not clash a few prints?

Both of these blazers are perfect for pairing with jeans and a tee or over a LBD!

Floral Blazer from Bardot ($129.95)

Sorbet Blouse from Sheike ($89.95)

River Island Floral Print Blazer from ASOS ($68.00)

A floral clutch or bag is an easy way to incorporate florals into your outfit and can be a very subtle way of doing so. If you are a little scared of florals (like me!), this is probably the best place to start.

Kimchi Blue Floral Abstract Clutch from Urban Outfitters ($38.00)

Jilly Floral Print Bag from Boohoo ($36.00)

Hard Case Floral Clutch from The Iconic ($49.95)

Once again, these can be a subtle way to add some floral to your outfit. They are also a great way to add some colour and interest to the usual ‘jeans and t shirt’ combo – one I seem to be wearing all the time lately!

Spring Floral Scarf from Dotti ($19.95)

Sunlit Garden Flat from ModCloth ($29.99)

La Rambla Floral Necklace from Ruby Olive ($65.00)

These last picks are for the more daring – especially those ASOS floral pants! Don’t forget to follow us on Pinterest to see more florals and how they can be styled.

Skinny Jeans in Floral Print from ASOS ($47.60)

Loula Kaftan from Forever New ($119.99)

Blue Tropical Floral Skirt from New Look ($23.72 Approx.)

How daring are you when it comes to prints? Is there one particular print you find a little scary?

Melinda. Xx

Colour Me Chic…Yellow

May 29, 2012 in Beauty, Fashion

This is such a fun series! We take a colour (turquoise and coral previously) and pick the very best fashion, accessories and beauty products in that particular colour.

Today we’re colouring your world the bright, sunny shade of yellow!

The easiest way to inject some yellow into your beauty routine is with nail polish. Pastel, bright, neon – let your fingers do the talking!

Nubar ‘Mello Yellow’ from Salon Style ($11.88)

Hello Darling in ‘Rubber Duckie’ ($18.95)

China Glaze ‘Lemon Fizz’ from Crush Cosmetics ($10.95)

A happy colour like yellow means accessories to make you smile. I’m loving the neon ’Flavia’ bag from Luxe by Lulu – how amazing is that colour?!

Colette Accessories Padlock + Stitching Wallet ($29.95)

Sportsgirl Bordered Gem Studs in ‘Amber’ ($9.95)

Luxe By Lulu ‘Flavia’ Handbag ($46.50)

Sometimes there’s nothing better than keeping your outfit incredibly simple and then having an unexpected pop of colour. The stunning Topshop neon lace dress is an outfit in itself.

Cocolatte Coloured Jeans ($14.99)

Dotti British Ponte Skater Skirt (on sale $29.95)

Topshop Neon Lace Flippy Dress (approx $73.92)

I’ve always had a weakness for statement shoes and these babies are definitely making a statement – loud and clear! The ASOS ballet flats would look especially cute with a pair of cuffed jeans, striped top and leopard print scarf. Of course I had to get leopard print somewhere in this post!

Topshop Platform Pointed Courts (approx $80.35)

ASOS ‘Lottie’ Leather Ballet Flats ($34.00)

Tony Bianco ‘JORCA2′ Heels from Wanted Shoes ($179.95)

And they are my yellow picks!

Want to join in with our Colour Me Chic fun? Tell us how you’re wearing yellow on Twitter with the hashtag #colourmechic or post a pic on Facebook!

We love hearing your suggestions, so let us know what colour you would like to see on our next Colour Me Chic post.

Stay Chic,

Answer Me Chic: Hot Winter Hen’s Night

May 24, 2012 in Fashion

One of our lovely readers, Karina is getting married and we all know that an important part of the wedding plans (besides actually marrying the love of your life) is of course the Hen’s Night. Karina’s Hen’s Night is in July and she has asked us to find some cold weather appropriate outfits that are still smoking hot.

The key to any gorgeous Winter outfit is layers. This is especially true for nights out – you want a jacket for when you are walking from the restaurant to the bar and then you need to be able to throw it off and hit the dancefloor in a fabulous number with cocktail in hand. Also, remember that black is not boring – it’s chic and timeless and a great base for any outfit. You can make a statement with your accessories. And most importantly, have fun with this!

So pop the champers and crank up the music, here are some Hen’s Night outfits worthy of a big night out…

Outfit 1: The Print Dress

Prints are are a big trend for the coming seasons, so why not base your outfit around a gorgeous print dress like this one from Forever New. You can keep the rest of the outfit simple by adding a great coat, some ankle boots and of course a bit of bling! If you’ve got a spray tan happening, then get those pins out. If it’s a little too chilly, then simply add some black opaque tights.

1. Forever New ‘Erin’ Ring Set ($14.99)

2. Colette ‘Stitch Panel Enamel Turn-Lock Clutch’ ($34.95)

3. ASOS ‘Bauble Interlink Circle Drop Earrings’ ($30.60)

4. Forever New ‘Rosie’ Dress ($199.99)

5. Cotton On ‘Lucci’ Cocoon Coat ($79.95)

6. Zu ‘Phoenix’ Ankle Boot (on sale $90.00)

Outfit 2: Dressy Denim

You can’t go wrong with a great pair of jeans. Go for dark denim to make it dressy, add a fabulous top, a great pair of heels and you are good to go. What’s better is that by going for separates, you can mix and match them with other items in your wardrobe.

 1. Forever New ‘Aaliyah’ Charm Bracelet ($19.99)

2. Bardot ‘Night Leopard’ Top ($59.95)

3. Mavi ‘Alexa Sophisticated Stretch Jean’ from Birdsnest ($139.95)

4. Colette Sequin Turnlock Clutch ($34.95)

5. Supre Cuffed Sleeve Blazer ($50.00)

6. Dotti Covered Platform Heel ($59.95)

Outfit 3: A Fab Coat

This coat caught my eye and I thought it was a beautiful base for an outfit. Surprise everyone by revealing a pop of neon underneath and a leopard print clutch, and work that dancefloor like you mean business!

 1. Mimco Crystal Dome Stud Earrings ($89.95)

2. Ally Fashion Laser Cut-Out Skater Dress ($29.99)

3. Dotti Basket Stitch Cream Coat ($129.95)

4. PeepToe Crystal Ring ($49.00)

5. Forever New ‘Millie’ Clutch ($39.99)

6. Wittner ‘Zachary’ Heels ($179.95)

I hope I’ve been some help for you Karina, but more than that – I hope you have the best night out with your girls!

Stay Chic,

Sonia. xx

Answer Me Chic: Flat Out

May 15, 2012 in Fashion

One of our lovely loyal readers, Eloise recently had ankle surgery and had been getting around in a moonboot until now. Her doctor has given her orthotics to wear in her shoes, and so Eloise has asked us to find her some cute flat boots to see her through the winter months.

Here are a few different styles that will be able to work back with any outfit you already own and maybe even inspire a few new ones…

Flat Ankle Boots

Flat ankle boots look great with skinny jeans or leggings tucked in, or with tights and dresses. Classic colours such as black and tan are always in fashion and why not add a bit of fun and go for a bright colour or interesting print like my personal favourite, leopard.

Cotton On ‘Holly’ Ankle Boot

Therapy ‘Bryant’ Ankle Boot

Wittner ‘Sydel’ Ankle Boot

Flat Knee High Boots

The knee high boot is such a flattering length of boot for most people and definitely a must-have in your shoe-drobe. Flat knee high boots are great for winter weekends or casual weekdays, and you can never have too many colours or styles.

Dotti ‘Buckle Up’ Knee High Boot

RMK ‘Zola’ Knee High Boot

Valeria Grossi ‘Eden’ Knee High Boot from The Iconic

Flat Over The Knee Boots

If you want to make a statement with a boot, then go over the knee!! Try them on and make sure they elongate your leg so that you walk out feeling like a Victoria’s Secret model with legs for days…What? A girl can dream!!

Tony Bianco ‘Pia’ Over The Knee Boot

Forever New ‘Ollie’ Over The Knee Boot

Ko Fashion ‘Laken’ Over The Knee Boot from Shoe Shed

We hope you’re back your feet (literally) very soon Eloise, and in the meantime make the most of the cooler weather and rock your flat boots in style!!

Knit Me Chic

April 16, 2012 in Fashion

With Winter on its way – I’ve been wearing scarves and slippers for the last week! – we thought it would be the perfect time to share a few of our favourite knit picks to add to your Winter wardrobe. From sweaters to dresses and (perhaps even more importantly) some cute knitted accessories, there is a little bit of knit love for every Chicette today!

I love this yellow ASOS sweater! The colour, the chunky knit – it’s amazing. If you live in warmer parts of Australia (Hi Darwin & North Queensland readers!) but still want to get into the Winter spirit, the Jeanswest light knit is perfect for you.

Esme Cable Sweater in Aztec Blue from Forever New

Vera Moda Chunky Cotton Knit from ASOS [Also available in 'Bluebird' which is cute too!]

Jeanswest ‘Tegan’ Stripe Knit from Westfield

I can’t seem to stay away from stripes! I love these three dresses because you can dress them up or dress them down. Wear them solo on Autumn-y days or layer them up with tights, a scarf and boots when it gets really chilly.

Lola Vs Harper Knit Dress from Freez

Joyce Rib Dress from Forever New

Oasis Knitted Dress from ASOS

I could have written an entire post on knitted hats, there are so many cute ones to choose from!

Naww Beanie from Dotti

Sun Stand In Hat from ModCloth

Metallic Knit Boyfriend Hat from ASOS

Picking just three scarves was so hard! I usually wear bright or patterned scarves but I also love a more neutral scarf to tone down a bright outfit.

Selina Stripe Knitted Scarf from Forever New

Waffle Knit Scarf in Ivory from Nasty Gal

Tinley Road Blanket Scarf from Piperline

Just in case you weren’t quite knitted kitted out yet, why not try out some knitwear on your hands, legs or iPhone!

Red Double Cable Knit iPhone Case from Etsy

Dolce & Gabbana Grey Leather gloves from Pret a Beaute

Cable Knit Tights in Charcoal from Dotti

So tell me, how do you like to wear your knits?

Stay Chic,

Melinda. Xx
