Easter Celebrations

March 17, 2013 in Lifestyle

I love Easter, not because of all the chocolate (ok, maybe a little because of the chocolate!) seriously though, Easter is the second biggest get together in our family besides Christmas. It’s a great excuse to have everyone together in the one place,  decorate the house and to have a great meal. Easter Sunday breakfast is when our family celebrates Easter. This year, our breakfast celebrations are at my house!

I loved the lead up to Easter as a kid. The anticipation of the impending arrival of the Easter bunny, knowing we’d all get to go on an Easter egg hunt and find lots of Easter eggs!

1. The Lark Store Mossy Rabbit ($8.95)

Look at this little green bunny, isn’t he the cutest thing ever! How cute would a pair of these guys look, sitting on a side table or buffet.

2. Baking Pleasures Mini Easter Cookie Cutter Set ($16.95)

These cookie cutters will make the cutest shaped cookies for morning tea after our breakfast! Picture the cookies iced with smooth royal icing in pastel colours… almost too good to eat  :)

3. The Lark Store Easter Egg Stand ($14.95)

This stand is a great way to display coloured eggs. Some of my earliest memories as a child was going to my grandparents house on Easter saturday to decorate eggs. We’d colour them, use wraps for the eggs, and they even had this cool little painting set that would hold the egg in place while we painted it. I loved doing that with them, and I can’t wait to do the same with my kids.

4. Easter Bunny Wreath ($69.00)

This wreath  is so beautiful. I love a good wreath on the door. It sets the scene for all kids of holidays! This one is so simple and elegant.

5. Williams Sonoma Easter Bunny Cake Stand ($82.00)

This cake stand is super chic, and would look great with my iced cookies on it! The little bunny sitting on the side is so cute.

What do your family do for Easter?  What sweet treats will you be making?

Stay Chic,

Melissa xx

Pregnancy Essentials

February 17, 2013 in Children

I have some news to share Shop Me Chicas…. I’m having a baby!!!

My husband and I are beyond excited to be starting this new chapter in our lives. I have had a reasonably good pregnancy so far – only a little nausea, so I’m counting myself lucky!

So with this exciting news to share with you all, I couldn’t think of anything better to write about than my pregnancy essentials (well my essentials for the 14 weeks I’ve been pregnant so far!)

1. Be Enlightened Tropical Coconut Candle ($37.00)

I have never really been a candle loving girl, sure they were pretty to look at, but I wanted something with an amazing scent and I could never find exactly what I was looking for. Then I stumbled across these puppies. The scents are amazing. I can light one of these candles, and the smell goes through the entire house. My favourite is the Tropical Coconut.

2. The Baby Closet Long Sleeve Bodysuit($49.50)

These 100% cotton jump suits are so adorable. I know these aren’t really a pregnancy essential, but I haven’t been able to stop buying cute baby clothes since after I reached 12 weeks! I really should stop until we find out what we’re having!!

3. What to Expect Pregnancy App (Free)

This app is great. It tracks how far along in the pregnancy you are, and gives you a great reference as to how big your baby is. Our baby is currently as big a navel orange! It also gives you a weekly breakdown of what is happening with your body and the baby, and a daily tip.

4. Potato Patch Closet Dividers ($13.45)

I needed something to sort the different size of all the clothes I have been buying – and these are the cutest things ever. I purchased the woodland themed dividers, if these aren’t you style, there are many other designs to choose from.

5. Therapeutic Pillow Australia Cuddle Up Pillow ($99.00)

I did not know comfort until I bought this pillow! It is amazing. It hugs your whole body and provides such great support. I highly recommend this pillow!!

What are your pregnancy essentials? I would love any tips you have!

Chic Up Your Kid’s Space: Transport

February 15, 2013 in Children

Welcome to another edition of Chic Up Your Kid’s Space!

One of the best things about writing for Shop Me Chic is using ‘research’ as an excuse to do some shopping! Today, I’m doing it a little backwards and using this post as research before I do my shopping!

You see, my youngest little boy has just gone into a big boy bed (cue a few tears from this Mumma!). And by big boy bed, I really mean his cot has been transformed into a toddler bed but we will be buying him a new toddler bed at some point over the coming months which means one thing – a room makeover!

I want to deck his little space out with transport pieces – cars, trucks, planes, maybe even the odd boat! As for colour schemes, I’m not sure where we are at yet however this post has given me a few ideas to get started.

1. Hugs & Inspiration Personalised Print from Little Boo-Teek ($89.00) // 2. Framed Transportation Alphabet Print from Down That Little Lane ($69.95)// 3. Rosemonde Et Michel Coudert Bi Plane Light from Down That Little Lane ($69.95) // 4. Decorative Throw Cushion Cover – Set of 2 from Etsy ($33.75) // 5. Tiger Tribe Kido Tip Truck from Little Boo-Teek ($25.00) // 6. Green Car Hanger from Down That Little Lane ($25.00) // 7. Dwell Studio Transportation Cot Quilt from The Baby Closet ($110.00) //

Did you get emotional when your baby said goodbye to his cot days? What theme is in your little ones space?

Stay Chic,

Melinda xx

Hens Party Fun

February 5, 2013 in Lifestyle

My hens party is this weekend. Yep. The last hurrah. The last night of freedom. The last fling before the ring. Or something like that.

So what do my 4 lovely bridesmaids have in store for me? As far as I know, there is a high tea in the afternoon followed by a cocktail party in the evening. And a few surprises along the way, I’m sure!

I recently shared some of the fantastic purchases I’ve made for the wedding from Etsy, including the ‘Team Bride’ tank tops I’ve bought for my girls. Today I’m looking online once again for some fun items that would be perfect for any kind of hens party.

Here are my picks…

1. Lovely Lace Paper Cups from Down That Little Lane ($17.50)

These gorgeous pastel coloured paper cups would be a sweet addition to an elegant High Tea and they also have matching paper plates, which you can find here.

2. Girl Talk Story Starters from Down That Little Lane ($21.95)

Girls aren’t really known to ever be short on conversation, but when you bring together friends from all aspects of your life sometimes a little ice breaker is needed and these cards would be a great option.

3. ‘Keep Calm & Drink On’ Bunting from Etsy ($19.74)

The ‘Keep Calm’ mantra is everywhere – prints, mugs, Pinterest…and this super cute bunting to remind you that a hens party is the perfect opportunity to keep calm and drink on! Pass the champers please…

4. Set of 4 Personalised Wine Glasses from Etsy ($11.84)

I can usually determine which one is my glass at a party by the lipstick stain on the rim (anyone else do this?!) but these personalised glasses take the guess work out of the equation!

5. ‘Team Bride’ Badge from Etsy ($4.94)

I love the ‘Team Bride’ philosophy, as it captures the true spirit of bridesmaids – they’re a bride’s support network, pit crew, entourage…you get what I mean. Go Team Bride!

6. Hen’s Night Mad Lib from Etsy ($14.81)

Mad Libs are everywhere when it comes to weddings now and it’s easy to see why. They’re a fun way to share each guests’ reactions, thoughts and advice.

What’s the best hens party you’ve been to? What did you get up to? Don’t worry, no men will be reading this post – it’s a safe space to share!

Valentine’s Day Gifts: For Him

February 4, 2013 in Lifestyle

Happy Monday everyone!

We are kicking the week off with a little bit of love… because Valentine’s Day is less than two weeks away!

In our house, we don’t exchange extravagant gifts or anything but we do exchange something small and either head out on a movie + dinner date (a rare occurance for us which makes it extra special!) or have one of our ‘date nights at home’ complete with thai takeout, wine and a board game, dvd or bubble bath!

We have picked 5 Valentine’s Day gift ideas to get you started in the shopping department, with a little variety across gifts. I love the Ampersand Print from Down That Little Lane. I think it would make a beautiful gift for a first Valentine’s Day as a married couple. The guitar pick from Etsy is a sweet little gesture, especially if your guy is a muso.

For the ladies out there who have been blessed (or cursed!) with a sports loving man, take advantage of the fact that AFL and NRL seasons will be kicking off in a matter of weeks and gift him a Jersey of his team (and to my fiance, if he is reading this… don’t be scared, I didn’t buy you a Cowboys jersey. Even though they are truly better than the Knights).

I thought the ‘How To Speak Wookiee’ book was rather cute especially if you’re the girlfriend or wife of a Star Wars lover. I’m pocketing that idea as a birthday gift for my dad! The customised message in a bottle is a very cute idea but if you’re not the lovey dovey type, why not put a cheeky little message or a personal joke inside?

1. How to Speak Wookiee from Modcloth ($16.99) // 2. Ampersand Custom Keepsake Print from Down That Little Lane ($30.00) // 3. Customised Love Message in a Bottle from Down That Little Lane ($25.00) //4. Personalised Hand Stamped Stainless Steal Guitar Pick from Etsy ($14.99) // 5. NRL North Queensland Cowboys 2013 Jersey from Rebel Sport ($159.99)

How do you celebrate Valentine’s Day? Later in the week, Sonia will have gift ideas For Her… so girls, if you’re significant other is not the greatest in the gift department, send him a (not so subtle) hint by emailing him the link!

Stay Chic,

Melinda xx

Sonia’s Etsy Wedding Purchases

January 22, 2013 in Fashion, Lifestyle

My wedding day is rapidly approaching (Friday 1 March, which is less than 6 weeks away now)!

This equally excites and terrifies me.

It excites me because I can’t wait for the day itself – to marry the love of my life and celebrate with our friends and family. And it terrifies me because I am pretty certain I’ve thought of and organised everything – but what if I haven’t?!

Casting my fears aside, I have to say I’ve been pretty relaxed about this whole wedding planning caper. I am the Queen of the To Do List, I’ve kept a budget spreadsheet any accountant would be proud of and I’ve put my Shop Me Chic online shopping research skills to excellent use – in particular on Etsy.

Ahh, Etsy.

“Etsy is a DANGEROUS DEN FOR BRIDES. Beware,” to quote the newly married Mrs Zoe Blake (née Foster).

It sure is. You can lose hours browsing page after page of every conceivable wedding item you could ever imagine – and even more hours on items you could never image existed or thought that you needed, but now simply MUST have.

I’ve bought quite a bit online and what I love about the sellers on Etsy is that they are passionate about what they do. They want to make you, their customer, happy. Also, you can personalise pretty much any item to add that special touch. It’s a wedding wonderland!

Here are 6 items I’ve bought for my wedding from the magical place that is Etsy…

1.  ‘Team Bride’ Tank Top from Dentz Designs (approx. $29.34)

As a gift for my girls, I have bought them these stunning Shabby Sisters earrings, as well as a silver beaded clutch from Sussan and a pair of Starlettos each so they don’t sink into the grass during the ceremony. But I also wanted to buy them a fun item. Something you can only get when you are part of a wedding. So while browsing Etsy, I found these ‘Team Bride’ tanks and I knew I had to get them.

2. 20 Piece Photobooth Prop Set from Party Goodies (approx. $24.45)

I purchased a mini Polaroid camera from eBay and knew I had to get some fun props for our guests to get a bit silly with. Party Goodies have a huge selection of prop sets to choose from all at affordable prices.

3. ‘Bride’ Tank from Dentz Designs (approx. $38.14)

Well I couldn’t miss out on a fun wedding tank top, now could I?!

4. ‘I Do’ Cotton and Metal Ring Bag from Olive and Fern (approx. $21.82)

I knew that I didn’t want a ring cushion, but rather a ring bag that one of our groomsmen could slip into his pocket to keep our rings safe and sound. This particular ring bag jumped out at me immediately due to its simple, yet beautiful design and that it can be personalised with your wedding date.

5. Personalised Groom’s Cufflinks from Hotaru Jewelry (approx. $34.22)

I bought these personalised cufflinks for my very handsome groom as part of his Christmas gift. I also gave him a fragrance to wear on the wedding day (Gucci by Gucci – his signature scent). He absolutely loves these cufflinks, and will continue to wear them long past our special day.

6. Custom Wood Wedding Guest Book from Lorgie & Me ($70.00)

I was on the hunt for a personalised guest book and fell in love with the idea of a wooden cover. Enter Lorgie & Me and their array of gorgeous personalised guest books. It arrived lovingly wrapped in a dustcover and I can’t wait for it to be filled with messages and Polaroid photos from our guests.

Have you used Etsy for your wedding purchases? What have you bought? Are there any other websites you would recommend?

Stay Chic,

Sonia

Australia Day Essentials

January 21, 2013 in Lifestyle

Is it just me or do the weeks between New Years Eve and Australia Day just fly by?

Our Australia Day plans since having children are usually quiet ones. In fact I think the past two years by fiance was working!

This year we will be hosting a quiet BBQ at home with potato salad, our slip & slide and Triple J’s Hottest 100 Countdown. Oh and let’s not forget the wine!

However this year I want to celebrate life a little more. Celebrate every little holiday a little more. Australia Day, Valentines Day and Easter are all in my sights to be celebrated and I’m so thankful to have Pinterest to feed my brain with craft, food and decoration ideas!

So while our day with be of the laid back kind, I’m looking forward to celebrating that exact fact… celebrate the life I have with my three beautiful boys (2 little ones + my big one) and how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful country, and especially at this point, a gorgeous new city!

Here’s my Australia Day essentials for a quiet BBQ at home…

 1. Red, White & Blue Outdoor Banner from The Party People ($18.00) // 2. Australia Typography Map from Etsy ($14.67) //3. Cancer Council Everyday Sunscreen 500ml ($22.95) // 4. Yellowglen Chilled Blush Spritz from Dan Murphy’s ($11.99) // 5. Havaianas Slim Animal Print ($29.95) // 6. Slip n Slide XL Wave Rider from Toys Paradise ($39.95)

How do you celebrate Australia Day?

Stay Chic,

Melinda

Get Organised for the New Year

January 8, 2013 in Lifestyle

Well here we are, smack bang into the second week of January 2013 – already!

I don’t know about you, but I don’t really like to make big sweeping New Year’s resolutions. I prefer to set smaller goals that will help me in my everyday life.

One of these little goals is to be a bit more organised. I am pretty organised by nature – a true Virgo at heart – but I think I can do even better. Even though we live in a tech savvy age, I find there’s nothing quite like writing a To Do list or recording your appointments in a diary. And so before the New Year had even graced us with its presence, I bought myself one very cute and practical diary from kikki.K (as seen in this post).

I’ve already filled it out with all the birthdays of the special people in my life, scheduled in my personal training sessions, hair appointments and have even begun a countdown to my wedding (less than eight weeks to go now!). All of this has helped me to feel more organised and ready to tackle this very busy start to 2013. It also inspired me to write this post!

So here are some stylish and useful diaries and planners to help get you organised for the year ahead…

1. kikki.K DIY Perpetual Desk Calendar ($19.95) // 2. Pink Spot 2013 Planner from Target (on sale $17.50) // 3. Page by Paige 2013 Desk Calendar from Etsy (on sale approx. $8.81) // 4. kikki.K 2013 Wall Planner ($12.95) // 5. Frankie Magazine 2013 Calendar ($29.95) // 6. kikki.K 2013 A6 ‘Hello Sunshine’ Weekly Diary ($19.95) // 7. Tiffany & Co Heart Lock Diary ($230.00)

Are you a little old school like me and use a diary or planner? Or are you totally techy when it comes to being organised?

Stay Chic,

Sonia xx

Chic Up Your Kids Room: Christmas

November 22, 2012 in Children

Christmas fever has officially arrived at Shop Me Chic!

If you follow us on Pinterest, you will have seen our growing Christmas Chic board full of Christmas recipes, wrapping ideas and decorations.

Today, we are adding a bit of Christmas cheer to your very own little elf’s room!

Since becoming a mum, my excitement for Christmas has grown.

We do it all – getting the photo with Santa, decorate the tree, blast Christmas carols (the Michael Buble and She & Him kind!) and of course on Christmas Eve, we leave out carrots for the reindeer and a Corona for Santa!

This year, we won’t be home for Christmas Day but I am still looking forward to spreading some green and red decor throughout the boys room so that they can enjoy the Christmas season for as long as possible!

1. Holiday House Rules from Etsy ($17.78)

I’m excited to welcome these rules into our house this year. I love that they reinforce the most important things about the Christmas spirit – like the best gift of all, is love.

2. Noel Christmas Bunting from Shabby Sisters ($18.00)

Every house needs a little bit of holiday inspired bunting! Even if you are a little more Grinch than Mrs Claus, this is still festive without a lot of fuss.

3. The Elf On The Shelf ($29.95)

This will be our first Christmas with an Elf in our family and despite my fiance making fun of my excitement, I am looking forward to starting a new tradition with the boys (in particular, reminding my head strong three year old that Santa’s elf is always watching!). If you’re not familiar with Elf On The Shelf, you can check it out here.

4. Christmas Reindeer Pillow from Etsy ($20.74)

Apart from it’s darling appearance, this pillow is the perfect way to teach your little Christmas enthusiast the names of all of reindeers!

5.  Personalised Santa Sack from Stuck On You ($49.95)

A Santa Sack makes the perfect Christmas decoration throughout December and a beautiful place for Santa to place presents to be opened on Christmas morning. At the moment, I’m torn between ordering these ones for the boys (did you notice I snuck in one for Addison…?!) or these My Munchkin ones from Lime Tree Kids.

What are your Christmas traditions? Do you decorate your house from top to toe for the holidays?

Stay Chic,

Melinda xx
