That One Thing: Fascinators

October 19, 2012 in Fashion

The 2012 Spring Racing Carnival will be kicking off in just a couple of weeks. It’s such a fun and exciting time when it comes to fashion. I love seeing men in sharp suits and women dressed up to the nines in beautiful dresses, coordinating (or clashing!) heels, jewellery, bag and hat. Or even better? A fascinator.

Fascinators can be just as subtle or dramatic as a hat, but can quite often be a lot easier to wear. Not only do they come in a variety of styles but fascinators also come with a variety of price tags, which works perfectly with our That One Thing series.  So whether you choose to wear neutral, bright or pastel, there’s bound to be a fascinator to suit you.

Here are some of our fascinating picks…!

Diva Accessories Lime Pleated Satellite Fascinator ($29.99)

Diva has a fantastic range of headpieces in a rainbow assortment of colours – and all for under $50. This particular fascinator caught my eye with its so-hot-right-now neon lime colour and just the right amount of feathers. I also adore the pleat detail which adds another interesting texture. An easy and inexpensive way to be on trend this Spring Racing Carnival.

Alannah Hill ‘Don’t You Worry’ Headband ($69.00)

I don’t know about you, but I was (pleasantly) surprised to discover that the divinely girly brand that is Alannah Hill had such affordable hair accessories. This particular number was my pick of the bunch thanks to the beautiful pink flowers adorned with Swarovski crystals. Blooming lovely!

Mimco ‘Palm Springs’ Racer ($229.00)

Mimco has a gorgeous range of Spring Racing accessories. Just like their jewellery, each headpiece is unique, intricate and an investment piece. The lovely pastel blue tones of this racer would work so well with a ladylike outfit for the ladies day of the Spring Racing Carnival – Oaks Day.

So whether you are heading to the Melbourne Cup itself, a local luncheon or simply entering the sweeps at your workplace, why not rock a fascinator for a bit of fun!

For more Spring Racing inspiration, pop over to KiKi & Tea – we’re talking Derby Day fashion.

Will you be attending a Spring Racing event this year? What kind of headwear are you planning on wearing?

Work It Out: Gym Accessories

June 12, 2012 in Fashion

The Winter mornings might be dark and freezing cold, but these cooler months are the perfect time to get your gym on. Not only will you warm yourself up, but by the time Summer rolls around you will be looking smokin’ hot!

We’ve previously looked at and lusted after the latest offerings from Lorna Jane, so now it’s time to accessorise your outfit with some gym bunny essentials.

Victoria’s Secret ‘Supermodel Essentials Weekender Bag’ ($128.00)

American Apparel Weekend Bag from ASOS ($47.61)

Lorna Jane ‘LJ Statement Bag’ ($89.99)

Obviously you need something to carry all of your gym accessories in, so a fab gym bag is the first thing you’ll need. We’re loving the size and print of the Victoria’s Secret bag, the metallic finish of the American Apparel bag and the chic handbag look of the Lorna Jane bag.

bkr Special Edition Water Bottle in ‘Canary’ from Boutique To You ($23.80)

Running Bare ‘RB Varsity’ Water Bottle ($20.00)

Lorna Jane ‘Wild’ Water Bottle ($19.99)

We all know the importance of hydration, especially when working out. Even celebrities love their H2O. The bkr water bottle has been seen in the hands of Reese Witherspoon, Jessica Alba, Miley Cyrus and Hilary Duff.

Nike Dri-FIT Featherlite Cap ($30.00)

Lululemon Hairties with Charms ($11.00)

Running Bare Headband ($10.00)

We all want to be fit and healthy, but hey – at the end of the day, we’re all girls so we want our hair to still look great! This is where a cute headband and/or hairties come in to help you create the perfect gym ‘do (think high ponytail or messy topknot)…and if that’s not working for you, then pop on a cap!

What are your favourite ways to stay fit? How do you accessorise?

Stay Chic,

Colour Me Chic…Turquoise

April 19, 2012 in Beauty, Fashion

This is a brand new post in the Shop Me Chic collection!!

Colour Me Chic will take a different colour and pick the very best fashion, accessories and beauty products in that particular colour.

Today, we’re colouring your world turquoise!!

The gemstone turquoise represents the star sign Sagittarius. The phrase “The Turquoise” refers to the waters of the Caribbean. In holistic medicine, the colour turquoise purportedly has a calming effect on patients. And the colour turquoise plays an important role in the Shop Me Chic logo.

Who knew this gorgeous little colour had so many purposes?!  Now let’s put it to good use the best way we know how…

OPI Nail Lacquer ’Fly’ by Nicki Minaj from Salon Style ($16.96)

MAC ‘Aquadisiac’ Eye Shadow ($33.00)

Illamasqua ‘Strike’ Nail Varnish (approx $21.43)

Turquoise is such a striking colour that really pops on nails and eyes. And if you’re feeling particularly daring – Illamasqua also does a turquoise lipstick. Would you??

Shabby Sisters ‘Turq Drop’ Earrings ($50.00)

Wild Bling ‘Lucite Crystal Choker’ ($49.00)

Luxe by Lulu ‘Cara’ Bracelet from the Amalfi Collection ($13.20)

It’s so easy – and fun – to rock super bright turquoise jewellery. And it was for this very reason I chose more subdued pieces, with the exception of the amazing Wild Bling choker, which I would save for weekend fun. The more understated pieces can be worn to work…as well as on the weekend.

Agent Ninetynine Slouchy Beanie from General Pants ($19.95)

Billabong Beanie Band from SurfStitch ($19.99)

NewUrban Mia Felt Fedora Hat (approx $68.75)

A fun and unexpected way to incorporate turquoise into your outfit is with headwear. A beanie, a headband or a hat…pop it on your head for a pop of colour!!

Forver New ‘Maley Paper Bag Short’ ($59.99)

ASOS Mini Dress With Contrast Piping ($58.00)

Sportsgirl ‘Cocoon Coat’ ($169.95)

Turquoise is one of the beautiful jewel tones hitting stores this winter and here are three different ways to incorporate this colour into your wardrobe. Such a gem of a colour!!

Tony Bianco ‘Fryer’ Heel ($169.95)

Wittner ‘Lee Lee’ Ballet Flat ($99.95)

Zu ‘Empress’ Heel ($150.00)

I love a coloured shoe to add a point of interest to an outfit. These gorgeous heels would be the ultimate exclamation point at the end of a fashion sentence…!!

ASOS Paul’s Boutique Satchel ($115.99)

Forever New ‘Sigourney’ Clutch ($24.99)

Colette Accessories ‘Minnie Square Turnlock Crossbody’ ($29.95)

And finally grab the finishing touch to your outfit before you head out the door – a lovely turquoise bag to carry you through Winter.

There you have it ladies. Are you all turquoised out now? No? Good!! Make sure you get into one of the most beautiful colours of the season.
