Pretty Pastels

February 18, 2013 in Fashion

Last week a Shopbop newsletter hit my inbox, full of pretty pastel goodies. There is something so delicious about pastel hues – like they came straight out of a bag of fairy floss!

Surprisingly, pastels can also be quite versatile in your wardrobe. Pair your lilacs with lemon for a soft and feminine look or make a bold statement by pairing your pastel blue with neon! Add a pastel blazer to your favourite LBD or a pair of pastel flats with your favourite jeans + tee combo (except in Townsville, this is known as the ‘denim short + singlet combo’!).

Today we have five pastel pieces to get your started and a whole lots more plus pastel inspiration over on our Pretty Pastel Pinterest Board (now that’s a mouthful!).

1. Adia Kibur Short Stone Necklace from Shopbop ($45.52) // 2. Butter Wouldn’t Melt from Hello Darling ($18.95) // 3. Pastel Spring Cropped Blazer from Princess Polly ($60.00)// 4. Rebecca Minkoff Sienna Tote from Shopbop ($529.89) // Heart To Get Sequin Dress from Lulu’s ($40.00)

Do you find pastels completely delicious? Do you think Far North Queensland is ready for the sequin dress? My walk in robe is practically begging for it!

Stay Chic,

Summer Bright Nail Polish

January 29, 2013 in Beauty

I don’t know about you, but I am pretty low key when it comes to beauty.

I get my hair blowdried once a week because I can’t be bothered don’t have a bathroom (thanks to renovating) and my daily makeup look consists of foundation, blush, lip gloss and mascara (which I try and remember to take off each night with a makeup remover wipe).

But there’s one thing that is super easy to do and makes a big difference to how I feel about my appearance – painting my nails.

You know what I’m talking about, don’t you? If you have a beautiful colour painted on your fingers or toes, you feel polished (pardon the pun). You feel finished. You feel chic.

And so while we enjoy the last half of the Summer, why not dip your fingers and toes into a pool of colour with these fabulous nail polishes…

1. Duri ’34 Pure Red’ from Down That Little Lane ($18.00) // 2. Australis ‘Jelly Bean’ ($7.95) // 3. OPI ‘Pink Flamenco’ from Adore Beauty ($19.95) // 4. Hello Darling ‘Superbass’ ($18.95) // 5. butter LONDON ‘Slapper’ from Down That Little Lane ($22.00) // 6. Hello Darling ‘Call Me Maybe’ ($18.95)

What are your favourite nail polish colours for Summer?

Stay Chic,

Sonia xx

Trick or Treat?

October 31, 2012 in Beauty, Fashion, Lifestyle

Let’s face it. Some of us just don’t celebrate Halloween – and I’m one of those people. You won’t catch me dressed up in a crazy costume, our house won’t be decorated with skulls, jack-o-laterns or cobwebs, and if kids come knocking at our door looking for lollies, I’ll mute the TV and pretend we’re not home. Yes. I know. I’m a terrible person.

So in the spirit of not celebrating Halloween, I thought I’d have a bit of fun with some picks that I consider to be Tricks and Treats…

Trick!

1. Typo Tramp Stamp ($2.95)

Have some fun with your co-workers and instead of date stamping their mail, use this ‘seriously WTF’ stamp instead! At home, you could even use it to stamp your electricity or water bill, cos we all know that’s what we’re thinking when we open those bills!

2. Theatrix Magic Hat from Peter’s of Kensington ($35.00)

I’ve always been a fan of magic. Especially the way I can never work out how they really do those damn tricks. So finally here’s my chance to play magician. Now all I have to do it try and stuff my cat into that top hat…

3. Raffaele Iannello ‘Voodoo’ Knife Block & Knife Set from Deals Direct ($99.95)

Now this knife block might be a little gruesome for some, but you get 5 knives with it – that’s a great deal! A quirky little addition to your kitchen benchtop that definitely be a conversation starter. Or ender. Just kidding.

Treat!

4.  Verali ‘Honey’ Heel in Neon Yellow ($69.95)

What woman would say not to treating themselves to a new pair of shoes? Certainly not me. I’m obsessed with bright colours for Summer and these neon yellow heels would fit quite nicely into my wardrobe. And with that pricetag, I wouldn’t even have to hide them from the husband-to-be!

5. Sussan ‘Dylan’ Pouch ($39.95)

Sussan always have such great accessories and this clutch is the perfect example. I love the beautiful turquoise colour and the size is perfect for all of my essentials for a night out – with no room for my fiance’s iPhone, keys or sunglasses (does anyone else get stuck trying to shove everything into an evening bag?!).

6. Hello Darling ‘Teenage Dream’ Nail Polish ($20.95)

The girls at Hello Darling always come up with the goods when it comes to on trend colours. This particular shade is from the ‘Crazy In Love’ range, with each colour named after a pop love song. So I guess this nail polish gives me permission to wear a purple wig and roll around in a pile of fairy floss? No? OK then.

Do you celebrate Halloween? Would you choose trick or treat?

Stay Chic,

Sonia. xx

Pink Ribbon Day

October 22, 2012 in Lifestyle

October is home to two very worthy fundraisers: Frocktober, which raises money for ovarian cancer research and Pink Ribbon Day (today!), which aims to raise breast cancer awareness as well as funds for research.

Our friend Kim-Marie of Kimba Likes has been blogging her Frocktober journey and has raised $300 for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation.

Every day this week, Sonia and I will be adding a pop of pink to our outfits and sharing a photo on Instagram. We would love to have you join us. Simply snap a photo of yourself wearing something pink and share it on Instagram or Twitter with the hashtag #AChicPinkRibbonWeek

Here are a few picks to get you started…

(Products in bold are Pink Ribbon products. A portion of the sale goes directly to NBCF – the National Breast Cancer Foundation)

1. Maxwell and Williams Pink Ribbon Cup & Saucer from Robin’s Kitchen ($14.95) // 2. ‘Teenage Dream’ from Hello Darling ($20.95) // 3. Dove Pink Ribbon Bodywash from Priceline ($6.99) // 4. Breast Cancer Awareness Pink Peony Set from Bobbi Brown ($70.00) // 5. 2012 NBCF Pink Volley from Volley ($35.00) // 6. Cambridge Satchel Company Satchel in Neon Pink from Modcloth ($154.99)

Apart from popping a dose of pink every day this week, Sonia and I are doing our little bit and aiming to raise $150 to the NBCF. We would really appreciate any amount you could donate, no matter how small.

Will you be joining us for a chic week of pink? Are you raising money for either Frocktober or Pink Ribbon Day?

Stay Chic,

Melinda xx

5 Nail Colours for Spring

August 24, 2012 in Beauty

It’s been a full week of Spring with blazers and dresses and today we are extending the colour love to our fingertips.

I’m getting so excited to dig out my favourite bright polishes and even more so to pair them with all the strappy sandals I plan on wearing!

Today we have five polishes for Spring and Summer…

1. China Glaze Man Hunt from Nail Etc ($4.99)

Man Hunt is the perfect bright blue creme especially is your polish cabinet is lacking in the blue department.

2. China Glaze Flirty Tankini from Nail Etc ($4.99)

With a name like Flirty Tankini, how can you not love this polish? It is part of the China Glaze Summer Neons Collection however isn’t as neon as the other polishes. Fun, flirty and definitely at the top of my Spring manicure list!

3. OPI Call Me Gwen-ever from Trans Design ($6.80)

Don’t be fooled by the bottle, this isn’t your typical orange, it’s full of dusty coral tones which I love! It’s one of the few polishes from OPI’s The Amazing Spiderman Collection that I found impressive.

4.Hello Darling Millions & Billions Rock Candy ($24.95)

This is a wish list item for me as I wait for it to get back in stock. Wednesday is one of my favourite pinks and I can’t wait to try the multi coloured rock candy!

5. Picture Polish Jade ($9.50)

This colour is simply stunning. A bright turquoise colour with the most subtle shimmer. A long time favourite and one I’ll be pulling out again to wear this Spring.

What colours are you looking forward to wearing in Spring and Summer?

Stay Chic,

Melinda & Sonia. xx

Colour Me Chic…Navy

July 12, 2012 in Beauty, Fashion

Today we are colouring your world…navy.

1. Darling ‘In The Navy’ Nail Polish ($18.95)

2. BYS Blueberry Scented Nail Polish from Fashion Addict ($3.95)

3. Face of Australia ‘Navy’ Eyeliner from Fashion Addict ($8.95)

4. MAC ‘Hey, Sailor!’ Limited Edition Eye Shadow in ‘Nautical Navy’ ($35.00)

Navy makes a beautiful and refreshing makeup change from black or brown – especially in the form of eyeliner. Still not convinced? Check out BellaSugar’s post on ‘5 Ways to Wear Trendy Navy Blue Eyeliner’.

1. ModCloth ‘Owl Be Waiting’ Scarf ($16.99)

2. Diva Studded Faux Leather Cuff ($19.99)

3. Colette by Colette Hayman Large Enamel & Metal Necklace ($19.95)

4. Beach Bumbershoot Umbrella from ModCloth ($17.99)

ModCloth really get me giggling with the names of some of their items. Case in point: the ‘Owl Be Waiting’ scarf…so cute! I’m totally digging the navy and gold jewellery colour combination. So very chic indeed.

2. Nasty Gal ‘Victoria’ Peplum Dress (approx $57.60)

3. Nasty Gal ‘Sylvie’ Striped Knit Top (approx $74.49)

4. Forever New ‘Gracie’ Embellished Evening Dress ($149.99)

Are you a fan of the colour navy?

How do you like to wear this classic colour?

Colour Me Chic…Yellow

May 29, 2012 in Beauty, Fashion

This is such a fun series! We take a colour (turquoise and coral previously) and pick the very best fashion, accessories and beauty products in that particular colour.

Today we’re colouring your world the bright, sunny shade of yellow!

The easiest way to inject some yellow into your beauty routine is with nail polish. Pastel, bright, neon – let your fingers do the talking!

Nubar ‘Mello Yellow’ from Salon Style ($11.88)

Hello Darling in ‘Rubber Duckie’ ($18.95)

China Glaze ‘Lemon Fizz’ from Crush Cosmetics ($10.95)

A happy colour like yellow means accessories to make you smile. I’m loving the neon ’Flavia’ bag from Luxe by Lulu – how amazing is that colour?!

Colette Accessories Padlock + Stitching Wallet ($29.95)

Sportsgirl Bordered Gem Studs in ‘Amber’ ($9.95)

Luxe By Lulu ‘Flavia’ Handbag ($46.50)

Sometimes there’s nothing better than keeping your outfit incredibly simple and then having an unexpected pop of colour. The stunning Topshop neon lace dress is an outfit in itself.

Cocolatte Coloured Jeans ($14.99)

Dotti British Ponte Skater Skirt (on sale $29.95)

Topshop Neon Lace Flippy Dress (approx $73.92)

I’ve always had a weakness for statement shoes and these babies are definitely making a statement – loud and clear! The ASOS ballet flats would look especially cute with a pair of cuffed jeans, striped top and leopard print scarf. Of course I had to get leopard print somewhere in this post!

Topshop Platform Pointed Courts (approx $80.35)

ASOS ‘Lottie’ Leather Ballet Flats ($34.00)

Tony Bianco ‘JORCA2′ Heels from Wanted Shoes ($179.95)

And they are my yellow picks!

Want to join in with our Colour Me Chic fun? Tell us how you’re wearing yellow on Twitter with the hashtag #colourmechic or post a pic on Facebook!

We love hearing your suggestions, so let us know what colour you would like to see on our next Colour Me Chic post.

Stay Chic,

Darling A/W 2012 Collection

May 7, 2012 in Beauty

You already know how much the Shop Me Chic team love Darling and their fabulous nail polish colours, well today we are showing off their new Autumn/Winter 2012 collection and let me be the first to say, they do not disappoint! The new collection of colours feature two new colour ranges Get Cozy and Not Your Nanna’s Jewels plus three top coats. And if you’re eyes glazed over when I said top coats, think again chicettes because these are unlike any top coats you have ever seen! But first up, my favourite colour range in the new collection, Get Cosy!

Get Cozy, is a collection of cremes for Autumn/Winter 2012 is inspired from all the things we love about the cooler months, as well as the bright, saturated colours we crave towards the end of hibernation. Snuggle up…we’ll take good care of you.

In Winter I have navys and greys on high rotation so naturally the two I fell in love with were:

Fifty

Not Your Nanna’s Jewels is Darling’s new look at metallics for Autumn/Winter 2012, inspired by raw cut gemstones, rare metals and amalgams, minerals and fabrics. Maybe you’ll find some of this stashed away in an antique jewellery box, but chances are, there’s something here you can make all your own.

You can’t survive Winter without a few colours that will make an outfit pop, so for this colour range, my picks are:

Red Shoes

Oh-Miss-Zoe

Next up, the Paillette top coats I mentioned earlier! These three little beauties 24K, Confetti and Harlequin (from left to right) are designed to be worn however you like them – either as a single coat or built up to add some serious bling to your nails. You can head on over to the Darling Pinterest board to get a peek of these babies in action!

These special top coats transform any nail lacquer into something truly extraordinary, like you’re throwing a party, just for your nails!

If you’re a a bit nosy (like me!), you can click on over to Pinterest to see where the girls got their inspiration for Get Cozy and Not Your Nanna’s Jewels! I’ve got to say that while their nail polishes are fabulous, Heather and Kim also know how to nail social media. Their Pinterest boards are amazing to look at.

You can see the entire collection of Darling polishes on their website or keep up to date via Facebook or Twitter.

Today we are lucky enough to be giving Shop Me Chic readers a little something to ease your bank account while stocking up on colours for Winter. For the entire month of May, simply use the code HELLOPRETTY and receive 15% off any order over $40!

Happy Shopping!

Three Manicures To Nail

April 23, 2012 in Beauty

Need a bit of nail inspiration to brighten up your Monday? Today we have three fun (and easy) manicures to put on your to-do list! These don’t involve stamping, stickers or any other tricky nail art tools (that’s for a whole other post Chicettes!) but simply a way to spice up your nails with polishes you (hopefully) already own.

Ombre Nails

image from The Nail Polish Project

This is when you paint each nail a different shade from light to dark. Visit The Nail Polish Project to see how Jen did her ombre look. If you’re after a quick way or you don’t have five polishes that form a gradual gradient, paint your thumb in any colour you like, mix white into that polish (on a plastic plate) to create the shades for your index through to your ring finger and paint the pinky (I have no idea what the ‘technical’ term is) white. I’m all about mint nails at the moment, so why not try a minty ombre mani!

Orly Jealous, Much? From Nail Etc

China Glaze White On White from Transdesign

The Statement Nail

image from Hello Darling

This is a perfect way to use your favourite glitter nail polish without looking like a walking disco ball. Pick your favourite creme, your favourite glitter and you’re done! Recreate this exact look with Trophy Wife and Super Bass or pair Trophy Wife with something lighter like Fairy Floss to really make the statement nail pop!

Trophy Wife from Darling

Super Bass from Darling

Fairy Floss from Picture Polish

Neon Tips

image from Penny Pincher Fashion

Who wants boring old french tips when you can have fresh neon tips! Just dig out a neutral, a neon and you’re set! Neon is huge at the moment and this is the perfect way to get a little bit of neon in your life if you aren’t quite brave enough to wear it. You don’t have to stick to neon yellow either, I am loving this pink from the new Orly Feel The Vibe Collection.

Orly Glowstick from Nail Etc

Orly Beach Cruiser from Nail Etc

How do you spice up your manicures?

Stay Chic,

Melinda. Xx
