Leopard for Spring

October 1, 2012 in Fashion

Firstly, can you believe we are in October? Pinch and a punch for the first day of the month… and all that jazz.

We are celebrating the first day of October with a post on one of our true loves… leopard print!

You may have noticed how much Sonia and I love a spot of leopard – recently we have featured leopard print for your iPhone, leopard print jeans and even a leopard print hand bag.

Now that the cooler days are well behind us, I’ve packed away my leopard scarf and leopard loafers to make room for some leopard print Spring essentials.

The key to wearing leopard print is to pick one statement piece (leopard print shoes are very easy if animal prints are out of your fashion comfort zone) and pair it with neutrals or block colours.

My Spring Summer ‘uniform’   is going to consist of pops of leopard print paired with orange, navy and white.

LeopardPrintForSpring

1.Betsey Johnson Animal Wayfarer Sunglasses from Urban Outfitters ($55.00)

2. Urge Abbey Leopard Sandal from StyleTread ($89.95)

3. Motel Leopard Printed Skater Skirt from ASOS ($59.34)

4. Mini Oxfords from Nasty Gal ($78.00)

5. Pounce on The Opportunity Top from Modcloth ($34.99)

And of course, don’t forget the stunning Carter flat from Keilana Skye Shoes which we featured throughout our Birthday Bonanza giveaway.

What’s making your Spring Summer uniform this year? Are you a leopard lover like Sonia and I?

Stay Chic,

Melinda. xx

We love a little colour in our lives – navy, yellow, coral, turquoise – and now, we are showing some love for pink!

2. Crinkle In Time Scarf in Magenta from Modcloth ($15.99)

Stay Chic,

Melinda. xx

5 Spring Denim Picks

August 2, 2012 in Fashion

And so the sun rises on another Denim Day here at Shop Me Chic, and now that we’re in August, we can officially count down the days until Spring, right?!

The fabulous thing about denim is that it can really be an all-year-round fabric and can be worn in different ways, with colours and patterns to mix things up a little.

So what kind of denim is Spring appropriate?

Well of course jeans are a staple, but why not try something new and invest in a cute pair of coloured or patterned jeans? If patterns such as floral or leopard print seem just a bit out there for you, then coloured jeans are the way to go. My colour pick would be the hue everyone is raving about right now – mint (4). Denim skirts (1) are also being brushed with colour, which is a great warmer weather alternative to jeans.

Denim shirts (2) and dresses (5) can easily be worked into your existing wardrobe and a sweet denim dress can be layered with leggings and a scarf for cooler weather or with your favourite pair of Havi’s in the Summer.

Finally, everyone should own a denim jacket, but what makes them so different for Spring? NEON! How fabulous is this neon yellow denim jacket (3)? It also comes in a fabulous shade of coral. Run, don’t walk!

Here are my 5 Spring denim picks…

Spring Denim

1. American Apparel ‘Bull’ Denim Skirt from ASOS (on sale $48.93)

2. Topshop ‘MOTO’ Fitted Denim Shirt ($55.00)

3. Topshop ‘MOTO’ Neon Denim Biker Jacket ($103.24)

4. DL1961 ‘Angel’ Ankle Skinny Jeans from Shopbop ($140.62)

5. Nasty Gal ‘Denim Dream’ Dress ($108.00)

How will you be wearing your denim this Spring? Will you be buying or have you already bought coloured or patterned denim?

Stay Chic,

Sonia. xx

This week we’re teaming up with Andrea from Fox In Flats to bring you the Denim Dare…are you in?!

Mum-Me Chic: 1 Maternity Dress, Styled 3 Ways

July 16, 2012 in Children, Fashion

Welcome to our very first ‘Mum-me Chic’ post which is a new series (yes, another one – we love to keep you on your toes!) that will focus on all things “Mum-me” and of course, all things chic.

Today’s post is for the mums to be who need a little maternity fashion inspiration. We have chosen one budget dress and put together three different looks. If you’re not expecting, why not swap the maternity dress for any staple dress in your wardrobe?

This first look transforms the dress into a  comfortable and chic Winter outfit that can be worn for work or play. Suffering from swollen fingers? (Isn’t pregnancy such a joyful time?) The Wooden ring from Polli has an adjustable band so you can continue wearing it throughout the next nine months.

1. ASOS Maternity Dress with Breten Stripe from ASOS ($40.78)

2. ASOS Boyfriend Blazer from ASOS ($81.55)

3. Tan ‘Inthea’ boot from Shoebox ($49.95)

4. Seraphine Seamless Maternity Leggings from Queen Bee ($49.95)

5. Wooden Stripe Ring in ‘Neon Blush’ from Polli ($29.95)

I am in love with this Ruby Olive necklace. You can thank Nikki from Styling You for my sudden obsession for all things orange! This is a fun and simple outfit for Spring or Summer. We love the Timi & Leslie ‘Charlie’ bag (previously featured here) and who says you can’t use the ‘nappy’ bag as a handbag before your baby joins the world!

1. ASOS Maternity Dress with Breten Stripe from ASOS ($40.78)

 2. Abstract Disc Necklace in Mango from Ruby Olive ($45.00)

 3. Timi & Leslie ‘Charlie’ bag from My Brood ($220.00)

 4. Have you ever wandered? Sandal from Modcloth ($49.99)

Another simple outfit that can be modified depending on the season by removing the trench and scarf or adding a pair of tights. Of course you don’t have to be expecting a new addition to appreciate that gorgeous Modcloth scarf!

 1. ASOS Maternity Dress with Breten Stripe from ASOS ($40.78)

2. Cropped Taupe Trench Coat from Nasty Gal ($78.00)

3. ‘Hayley’ Flat in Beige from Saria Shoes ($69.00)

4. Not Bluffing Scarf from Modcloth ($32.99)

If you don’t yet have a bump to show off or you’re still in that awkward ‘did she have a big lunch or can I ask what her due date is’ stage, check out Fox In Flats ’7 things to wear before it’s obvious your knocked up’ post.

What are your tips for dressing throughout nine months of nausea, back pain, heart burn joy? Do you have any favourite brands or stores for maternity wear?

Stay Chic,

Melinda. xx

Colour Me Chic…Navy

July 12, 2012 in Beauty, Fashion

It’s time for another episode in our kaleidoscopic series of Colour Me Chic!

So far we’ve covered turquoise, coral and yellow, and now it’s time for a classic colour to make its debut.

Today we are colouring your world…navy.

1. Darling ‘In The Navy’ Nail Polish ($18.95)

2. BYS Blueberry Scented Nail Polish from Fashion Addict ($3.95)

3. Face of Australia ‘Navy’ Eyeliner from Fashion Addict ($8.95)

4. MAC ‘Hey, Sailor!’ Limited Edition Eye Shadow in ‘Nautical Navy’ ($35.00)

Navy makes a beautiful and refreshing makeup change from black or brown – especially in the form of eyeliner. Still not convinced? Check out BellaSugar’s post on ‘5 Ways to Wear Trendy Navy Blue Eyeliner’.

1. ModCloth ‘Owl Be Waiting’ Scarf ($16.99)

2. Diva Studded Faux Leather Cuff ($19.99)

3. Colette by Colette Hayman Large Enamel & Metal Necklace ($19.95)

4. Beach Bumbershoot Umbrella from ModCloth ($17.99)

ModCloth really get me giggling with the names of some of their items. Case in point: the ‘Owl Be Waiting’ scarf…so cute! I’m totally digging the navy and gold jewellery colour combination. So very chic indeed.

1.  Topshop ‘Band Girl’ Knitted Jumper (approx $60.81)

2. Nasty Gal ‘Victoria’ Peplum Dress (approx $57.60)

3. Nasty Gal ‘Sylvie’ Striped Knit Top (approx $74.49)

4. Forever New ‘Gracie’ Embellished Evening Dress ($149.99)

The Forever New ‘Gracie’ dress literally had me sighing at how divine it is – and had my fiancé looking at me like something was wrong. Something is wrong. I need this dress. Now! Quick, someone help me think of a reason to buy it…

1. ModCloth ‘Midnight Moonlight’ Ballet Flat ($32.99)

2. Soles ‘Boot This’ Ankle Boot in ‘Navy’ from The Iconic ($159.95)

3. L.A.M.B. ‘Hortensia’ Heels from Piperlime (approx $318.00)

4. Alice + Olivia ‘Darcy’ Sling Back Pumps from Shopbop (approx $301.03)

Who knew there were such awesome navy shoes out there?! This little collection alone is enough to take you from the office to the restaurant and from cocktails to coffee. Absolutely loving the L.A.M.B. heels – I could totally imagine Gwen Stefani herself rocking these babies.

Are you a fan of the colour navy?

How do you like to wear this classic colour?

Stay Chic,

Sonia. xx

Celebrity Chic: Nicole Richie

June 15, 2012 in Fashion

We love our fashionable celebrity mums here at Shop Me Chic (hi there Kourtney Kardashian, Reese Witherspoon and Beyonce) so it’s timely to add another lovely lady to the mix.

Today’s Celebrity Chic is Nicole Richie.

Nicole has boho chic down to a fine art and the girl can glam up like no other, but it’s her day-to-day casual look that wins us over every time.

Image

This outfit is a fantastic winter option that is perfect for the school run, coffee catch ups or Saturday morning sport. We love the classic neutral palette and that each piece can be mixed and matched with other on-trend items to give them a new look and a new life.

A Chic Trend: Prints

May 22, 2012 in Fashion

We’ve already covered the colour trends from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia (MBFWA) and we’ve also taken a closer look at the peplum trend. Another wearable trend to emerge from MBFWA are prints. Subtle. Bold. Digital. Clashing. The fun of prints is that you can wear them in any way that suits your style.

Here are some pieces that can easily be imprinted in your wardrobe…

Tops

A simple way to add a print to an outfit is to go for a printed top. It’s also incredibly versatile, as you can wear a printed blouse with your suit to work or a printed top with jeans and ballet flats on the weekend.

Lucy In The Sky ‘Miss Freaky’ Top ($39.00)

ModCloth ‘Love Letterpress’ Top ($49.99)

Nasty Gal ‘Starburst’ Top ($38.00)

Bottoms

A fun way to rock the print trend is to do it down below…! Printed pants, skirts or leggings are a fab way to add a point of interest to an otherwise simple outfit.

Junk ‘Everlong’ Pant from Freez (on sale $20.00)

Cocolatte Purple Snake Print Skirt ($14.99)

Supre ‘Essex’ Printed Tights ($20.00)

Dresses

And finally the ultimate way to make a statement with prints – the dress. For day or evening, a print dress is a great go-to and instant outfit for embracing the print trend.

Maurie & Eve Ikat Print Peplum Dress from All About Fashion ($179.00)

Ally Fashion Digital Print Skater Dress ($45.00)

Princess Polly ‘Only Once’ Dress ($75.00)

Will you be wearing prints this Spring/Summer 2012-13?

Stay Chic,

Sonia. xx

Colour Me Chic… Coral

May 4, 2012 in Beauty, Fashion

We kicked off our first Colour Me Chic post with turquoise and today we are bringing another one of the Shop Me Chic teams favourite colours – Coral!

If there is one way I love my coral, it’s on my nails, lips and cheeks. Benefit’s Coralista blush is flattering on any skin tone and smells amazing, a must have for your beauty cupboard!

Essie Haute as Hello from Nail Etc

MAC Costa Chic

Benefit Coralista

These three (very cute) accessories deserve a place in every woman’s wardrobe and are perfect for work or play.

Coral Cat Scarf from Miss Selfridge

Retro Rosie earrings from ModCloth

Bubble Bib Necklace from Etsy

These three pieces check off all of my current wardrobe wants – a cardi for Winter, coloured denim and a dress that can be paired with stockings and a blazer on those extra chilly days.

Alma Fringe Cardi from Nasty Gal

Skinny Jeans from ASOS

Coral Sweetheart Dress from Dorothy Perkins

What better way than to brighten up an outfit with a coral shoe? It doesn’t have to be a heel either, these Wittner flats or the ModCloth wedges are a perfect way to add a touch of colour without leaving your feet aching at the end of the day!

Miss Soho (in coral) from Peeptoe Shoes

Pear flats (in Sunset Leather) from Wittner

Draw The Line Wedge from ModCloth

And that’s my coral picks!

Want to join in with our Colour Me Chic fun? Tell us how you’re wearing your coral on Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #colourmechic

As always, we love hearing your suggestions so let us know what colour you would like to see on our next Colour Me Chic post.

Knit Me Chic

April 16, 2012 in Fashion

With Winter on its way – I’ve been wearing scarves and slippers for the last week! – we thought it would be the perfect time to share a few of our favourite knit picks to add to your Winter wardrobe. From sweaters to dresses and (perhaps even more importantly) some cute knitted accessories, there is a little bit of knit love for every Chicette today!

I love this yellow ASOS sweater! The colour, the chunky knit – it’s amazing. If you live in warmer parts of Australia (Hi Darwin & North Queensland readers!) but still want to get into the Winter spirit, the Jeanswest light knit is perfect for you.

Esme Cable Sweater in Aztec Blue from Forever New

Vera Moda Chunky Cotton Knit from ASOS [Also available in 'Bluebird' which is cute too!]

Jeanswest ‘Tegan’ Stripe Knit from Westfield

I can’t seem to stay away from stripes! I love these three dresses because you can dress them up or dress them down. Wear them solo on Autumn-y days or layer them up with tights, a scarf and boots when it gets really chilly.

Lola Vs Harper Knit Dress from Freez

Joyce Rib Dress from Forever New

Oasis Knitted Dress from ASOS

I could have written an entire post on knitted hats, there are so many cute ones to choose from!

Naww Beanie from Dotti

Sun Stand In Hat from ModCloth

Metallic Knit Boyfriend Hat from ASOS

Picking just three scarves was so hard! I usually wear bright or patterned scarves but I also love a more neutral scarf to tone down a bright outfit.

Selina Stripe Knitted Scarf from Forever New

Waffle Knit Scarf in Ivory from Nasty Gal

Tinley Road Blanket Scarf from Piperline

Just in case you weren’t quite knitted kitted out yet, why not try out some knitwear on your hands, legs or iPhone!

Red Double Cable Knit iPhone Case from Etsy

Dolce & Gabbana Grey Leather gloves from Pret a Beaute

Cable Knit Tights in Charcoal from Dotti

So tell me, how do you like to wear your knits?

Stay Chic,

Melinda. Xx

Answer Me Chic: Change of State, Change of Style

March 26, 2012 in Fashion

Today’s post was requested by one of our readers, Tamasyn.

Hi girls, love the new website.

I have recently moved from Adelaide to Brisbane and all the mothers in the area dress like they are straight out of a Rivers commercial. I’m scared I might go down the same path. What suggestions do you both have on how I can dress for the school runs without looking like I’m over the top but still casual chic? And jeans aren’t always an option as it gets pretty steamy here. Thanks, I appreciate your advice.

Keep up the good work,

Tamasyn

As a fellow Brisbane girl myself, I can relate – I can’t wait for the weather to cool down a bit so I can throw on a pair of jeans and a scarf before I run out the door. In the mean time though, I turn to dresses! The three dresses I have chosen are quite simple but each has the ability to create lots of different looks.

Faithful Dress from Nasty Gal (also available in black)

I love this dress! Pair it with some cute flats and accessories in the warmer months or with boots and tights in the cooler months (and if you need some boots, check out Sonia’s picks for Winter!)

Mooloola Maxi Dress

I have this maxi and the mini version too. It’s been my best friend throughout Summer! Maxi dresses look effortlessly chic and can transition into the cooler weather by adding a cute, colourful cardigan.

Stripe layed dress from Katies

This dress is a great wardrobe staple (also available in black). Even paired with heels or wedges, it is still casual (yet chic) enough for the school pick up and can be dressed up further with a good blazer. The green jacket in the image comes in an amazing orange too and is currently on sale – clickety click here!

Of course there is also the ‘condom dress’ from Seed, a brilliant find by Mrs Woog and styled by Nikki from Styling you.

Do you have a fashion, beauty or children related request for Sonia and I? Send us a tweet or an email – we would love to hear from you!

Stay Chic,

Melinda. xx
