5 Sandals for Summer

October 8, 2012 in Fashion

We have been banging on about Spring a lot lately but today we are throwing ourselves even further into the warmer weather and talking Summer.

I am so looking forward to spending Summer days at the beach and Summer nights enjoying BBQ’s and bubbly. I’ve already mentioned that my Spring Summer uniform will consist of pops of leopard and today I have another Summer essential (though perhaps that should read Summer obsession) of mine, the sandal.

Summer sandals, best paired with a slight tan and bright toes.

As I indulged in a little online shopping research for this post, my fiance dared to utter the words “Why do you need another pair of sandals, didn’t you buy two new pairs last week?”.

Luckily for me, his attention quickly turned from my sandal addiction to the Bathurst telecast leaving me to shop research in peace (no doubt, we will come back to that conversation later so if you have a valid excuse I could use, I would love to hear!).

1. Mooloola Caveman Sandals from City Beach ($19.00 on sale!) // 2. Tony Bianco Jangle Flat Sandal in Tan/Fluro Green ($89.95) // 3. Verali Dallas in Gold from StyleTread ($49.95) // 4. Novo Sissy Flat in Tan/Coral ($49.95) // 5. Saltwater Sandals in Yellow from Lady Pinwheel ($84.00)

To save my bank account and my relationship*, I’ve decided to let you choose my next pair. I’ve already got two pairs of tan Mooloola sandals which I love (and highly recommend!) and am awaiting ‘Sissy’ to arrive on my doorstep which leaves 2,3 or 5. And really, how is a girl supposed to choose between neon, sparkles or yellow? All three are a must have for Summer!

Which pair should be the next addition to my sandal collection? How do you justify more shoes to your other half? What do you think of our new-look images?

Stay Chic,

Melinda. xx

*This is a joke of course. He knew what he was getting into when he proposed!

Leopard for Spring

October 1, 2012 in Fashion

Firstly, can you believe we are in October? Pinch and a punch for the first day of the month… and all that jazz.

We are celebrating the first day of October with a post on one of our true loves… leopard print!

You may have noticed how much Sonia and I love a spot of leopard – recently we have featured leopard print for your iPhone, leopard print jeans and even a leopard print hand bag.

Now that the cooler days are well behind us, I’ve packed away my leopard scarf and leopard loafers to make room for some leopard print Spring essentials.

The key to wearing leopard print is to pick one statement piece (leopard print shoes are very easy if animal prints are out of your fashion comfort zone) and pair it with neutrals or block colours.

My Spring Summer ‘uniform’   is going to consist of pops of leopard print paired with orange, navy and white.

LeopardPrintForSpring

1.Betsey Johnson Animal Wayfarer Sunglasses from Urban Outfitters ($55.00)

2. Urge Abbey Leopard Sandal from StyleTread ($89.95)

3. Motel Leopard Printed Skater Skirt from ASOS ($59.34)

4. Mini Oxfords from Nasty Gal ($78.00)

5. Pounce on The Opportunity Top from Modcloth ($34.99)

And of course, don’t forget the stunning Carter flat from Keilana Skye Shoes which we featured throughout our Birthday Bonanza giveaway.

What’s making your Spring Summer uniform this year? Are you a leopard lover like Sonia and I?

Stay Chic,

Melinda. xx

A Chic Feature: KeilanaSkye Shoes

September 14, 2012 in Fashion

Here at Shop Me Chic, we are all for chasing your dreams and making them reality. That’s exactly what Candy from KeilanaSkye Shoes did – leaving her career in IT to pursue her love of fashion, in particular shoes. Candy is one savvy businesswoman, taking everything she (and every other woman out there) didn’t like about shoes and creating beautiful, stylish shoes that are actually comfortable. What a concept! We had a chat with Candy to find out more…

Your website says “a feminine edge meets comfort” – what makes KeilanaSkye shoes comfortable?
Firstly, I design my heels and wedges with platforms to lower the net heel height.  This means the foot is on less of an angle, which lessens the strain on the foot, the calf muscle, knees and hips.  It does help your entire body balance better as well.  You’re more inclined to tilt forwards when wearing stilettos without any platforms.  When wearing heels, it’s generally the ‘ball of the foot’ that takes the brunt of it; so I add padding and cushioning to the insoles and under the ball of the foot.  Functionality and practicality play a huge part in it as well.  A lot of women can’t fit standard pumps properly, so I design heels and wedges with adjustable slingbacks and ankle straps, anklets, lace ups and ankle boots, as a way to help secure the shoe to the foot.  When the shoe is secured to your foot properly, it lessens the strain on your toes, as women tend to clench and strain their toes to keep their heels on their feet.  This makes them easier to walk in as well.  The materials used also play a part; leather is breathable and molds to the wearers foot shape.  If you’re wearing heels that you don’t wear socks with, you need breathable materials inside the shoe (the lining, insole and sock), otherwise your feet will continually sweat and blister.  I love the look of a high heel, so I try to maximize comfort, without loosing the high heel aspect.

Where did you draw your inspiration from for the new collection, ‘The Carter Collection, Wish You Were Here – Part II’?
The name of my collection is a tribute to a young family member.  Design wise, my ideas were drawn from all around me; on the street, in magazines, some designs have been in my head for a while and it just needed perfecting and sometimes it happens by chance.  If I fall in love in with a colour or a material, then I’ll use it.  I did want to build on top of my previous collection, using more colour and detail.  I made sure this collection had a selection of bold and neutral colours, as well as textured prints, while maintaining my own style; a feminine edge.

You debuted at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week this year. What was that experience like?
It’s a lot of work; from weeks beforehand till weeks after.  But it’s fantastic.  I met a lot of great people, saw a lot of amazing designs (and models) and it has opened a lot of doors for me.  Being my debut, it was a huge learning curve, so next time I’ll know exactly what to do.

Which celebrities would you love to see wearing a pair of KeilanaSkye heels?
I’d love to see any woman in KeilanaSkye shoes.  Just seeing a woman on the street or out at dinner in my shoes, would really make my day.  I’d definitely get my camera out.

What advice would you have for a woman wanting to start up her own company?
Be patient, be realistic and don’t give up.  I say this to a lot of people!  Be prepared to put in the hours and stick to your guns.  You’re the only person who knows what’s ‘in your head’, so trust your own instincts, but do ask for advice when you need it.  Most of all, do something different and have a niche.  If you do the same as everyone else, it increases your competition.  Expand and grow slowly and if you can, stay away from the banks.  So many businesses end up in too much debt and go into receivership.  You can start off small and grow on a small budget.

Here are the KeilanaSkye shoes we have our eyes on:

1.  Summer Cutout Pump in Burnt Coral ($269.00)

2. Carter Flat in Metallic Leopard Print ($199.00)

Check out the entire range of The Carter Collection, Wish You Were Here – Part II from KeilanaSkye Shoes on their website, follow them on Twitter and ‘like’ KeilanaSkye Shoes on Facebook.

You could win yourself a $100 voucher to spend at KeilanaSkye shoes by entering our Birthday Bonanza giveaway. Come on over and tell us: How do you spoil yourself on your birthday?

Are you a shoe lover? Which shoe from KeilanaSkye’s latest collection do you have your eye on?

Stay Chic,

Melinda & Sonia. xx

Shoe Trend: White Shoes

September 13, 2012 in Fashion

We have been all about colour lately:  coloured blazers, coloured nails, coloured flats and coloured Spring scarves.

Today we are going back to basics and talking white. White shoes to be specific!

While Spring is big for neon and pastels, our friend Maria from Crashing Red (and previous Get Her Chic blogger) says that white shoes are the next big thing. And Maria knows her stuff!

You can follow Maria on Twitter here

We’ve got you covered with white flats, heels, sandals and even a pair of brogues (and you can head on over to Fox In Flats to see Andrea sporting white brogues plus tons of inspiration and tips on how to wear them).

1. I See Your Point loafer from Modcloth ($42.99)

2. Siren Hellier Hidden Wedge Sneaker from StyleTread ($159.95)

3. Kidman Heel in White Chicago from Tony Bianco ($159.95)

4. K Jacques St Tropez Leather Sandal from Net-A-Porter ($207 approx)

5. Bronx Brogues from ASOS ($53.41 on sale)

Tip: (And common sense really!) Do not wear white shoes to the park. I thought I was rather “on-trend” sporting white flats with my mint jeans earlier this week… let’s just say, they are not so white now!

Do you have any tips for keeping your white shoes in pearly white condition? Do you have any white shoes in your wardrobe? Snap us a picture, we would love to see!

Stay Chic,

Melinda. xx

To celebrate our birthday’s, we are giving you the chance to win a prize pack valued at over $300. Come on over and tell us: How do you spoil yourself on your birthday?

3 Ways To Springify Your Look

July 26, 2012 in Fashion

We may still be in the midst of Winter, but judging by a lot of Tweets and Facebook posts, most of us are pining for the warmth and sunshine of Spring. So while we may not be able to change the weather, we can start buying a few pieces to brighten up our days and to also see us through to the fabulous Summer ahead.

Here are three ways to Springify your look!

1. Clare Vivier Neon Stripe Clutch from Shopbop ($139.50)

2. Lady Fox Accessories Emerald Cut Crystal Necklace ($95.00)

3. ModCloth ‘A-Head Of Trends’ Scarf ($19.99)

4. Nerine Anne Designs ‘Zara’ Earrings in Aqua ($22.00)

There’s nothing like a bright piece of jewellery, scarf or bag to liven up a Winter outfit. I love the fun and colourful print of the ModCloth scarf, which would look awesome with a denim jacket no matter what the season. And lately I’ve been distracted from the news on The Project thanks to Carrie Bickmore rocking some fabulously sparkly Lady Fox Accessories necklaces. If you haven’t already, be sure to check them out.

1. Forever New ‘Piper’ Skater Skirt ($59.99)

2. Ally Fashion Double Peplum Jacket ($34.99)

3. Ally Fashion Peplum Waist Skirt ($19.99)

4. Topshop Premium Sequin T-Shirt Dress ($117.00)

Some beautiful trends to add to your Winter wardrobe now that will see you all the way through Spring and Summer are florals, metallics, brights and peplum. When buying into a trend, only spend as much as you can afford. That way if the trend doesn’t continue next season or if you are just plain over it, you haven’t over-invested in that piece. Save your pennies for the classics but have fun mixing them with trends.

1. Novo Shoes ‘Clay’ Ballet Flats ($39.95)

2.  Verali ‘Lizzy’ Heels from StyleTread ($79.95)

3. Topshop ‘Melinda’ Ballet Flats ($54.00)

4. Steven ‘Amplifyd’ Heels from Shopbop ($152.10)

Metallic, neons and brights can also be rocked on your…feet! These amazing and affordable Novo ballet flats were brought to my attention thanks to Andrea at Fox In Flats. Loving the mix of neon and neutral together in one shoe. And of course I couldn’t go past these Topshop flats – not only because they are gorgeous, but also because they are named after my fabulous Shop Me Chic partner in crime!

How will you be bringing Spring into your wardrobe over the coming weeks?

Stay Chic,

Sonia. xx

3 Ways to Wear Pastels

July 20, 2012 in Fashion

In her MBFWA round up earlier this year, Sonia predicted 3 colour trends that we would be seeing through until Spring Summer 2012/13 – Brights, Metallics and Pastels.

Today we have three ways to incorporate some pretty pastels in your outfit with our picks for pastel clothes, bags and accessories and (possibly my favourite) shoes.  There is something so feminine about pastels and it always sends me day dreaming about cotton candy, pink lemonade and the smell of a Summer night.

Styling pastels is very easy – whether you clash different pastel hues together or make one pastel piece the focal point of your outfit, there aren’t really many (if any!) rules to be broken with pastels so have fun with it!

Here’s our picks:

I can’t pick a favourite from these four! That Esther knit is just screaming out “please buy me” and the SHEIKE jacket? The perfect piece to take you from Winter to Spring.

 1. Marlow Knit Jumper in Baby Pink from Esther ($59.00)

2. Fairytale Jacket in Apricot from SHEIKE ($149.95)

3. Petra Pleated Dress from Forever New($119.99)

4. Spring in Every Season Jeans in Lavender from Modcloth ($52.99)

Some of you may have seen me Instagram a pic wearing this Nerine Anne necklace. It is truly gorgeous and a must-have for anyone lusting over mint!

1. Paul Smith Yellow Jester Bag from ASOS ($347.97)

2. Pastel Floating Stone Ring from Dorothy Perkins ($12.86 approx)

3. Pastel Super Skinny Waist Belt from ASOS ($9.79)

4. Diamond V Drop Earrings from Colette ($9.95)

5. Summer Bliss Necklace in Mint from Nerine Anne Designs ($38.00)*

6. Pink About It Satchel from Modcloth ($94.99)

If I could ask those studded loafers to marry me, I would. But unfortunately, I already gave my heart away to Kallista. What a beauty!

1. Shelby Wedge Boot from Rubi ($39.95)

2. Kallista in Mint from Tony Bianco ($149.95)

3. Kimchi Canvas Skimmer from Urban Outfitters ($29.oo)

4. Stud Loafers from We Like Fashion ($160 approx)

What is your favourite way to wear pastels? Do you have a favourite pastel hue?

Stay Chic,

Melinda. xx

5 Ballet Flats to Update Your Outfit

July 18, 2012 in Fashion

I consider myself to have quite a boring, basic wardrobe made up of lots of grey and black. To keep outfit’s fun and fresh as well as incorporate trends, I try to find key pieces that become the statement piece of my look. Coloured or patterned ballet flats are the perfect way to lift an outfit and are appropriate for any occasion – from work to shopping to chasing the kids around the park. More importantly, they don’t have to break the bank or have your credit card end up in tears!

Here are five ballet flat picks that have caught my eye lately (and as you can see, just like Bec from My Bloggable Day – I’m not quite over the neon trend yet either!)

BalletFlats

1. Day and Nightlife Flat from Modcloth ($29.99)

2. Top Cap Neon Ballet Flat from ASOS ($41.43)

3. Siren Simba Leopard flat from Style Tread ($89.95)

4. Gatsby Mono from Indy C ($49.95)

5. Aruba in ‘Putty’ from Shoebox ($29.95)

How do you add a little something extra to your outfit? Can you see yourself rocking any of these flats?

Stay Chic,

Melinda. xx

Answer Me Chic: Winter Workwear

June 19, 2012 in Fashion

We love hearing from our fabulous Shop Me Chic readers (or Chicettes as we like to call you), especially when we can help you out.

We recently received an email from Anya asking for some winter workwear advice…

“Hi Sonia and Melinda! I’m looking for some winter work inspiration (something other than Portmans because I seem to own their entire store at the moment). I need to be slightly corporate (meeting clients most days). Any ideas/advice?”

We’ve come up with 3 simple ways to revamp your winter work wardrobe without breaking the bank…

1. Blouses

Working in a corporate office myself, I am a big fan of blouses. They add an element of fashion and femininity to your outfit. The great thing about a blouse is that you can find them in every pricepoint and there are so many styles and prints to choose from.

ModCloth ‘Star-fishing For Compliments’ Blouse ($37.99)

Topshop Willow Print Pussybow Blouse (approx $72.80)

Funktional Stripe Fold Front Blouse from Shopbop (approx $113.38)

2. Accessories

Accessories are the easiest way to give your outfit a new lease on life. In winter, scarves take centre stage as they not only look super cute, but keep you nice and warm too. A statement necklace is a great way to dress up a plain top or shirt and some gorgeous earrings can make a simple ponytail look extremely chic.

Nerine Anne Designs ‘Summer Bliss’ Necklace ($38.00)

Forever21 Zigzag Patchwork Scarf (approx $8.92)

Diva ‘Neon Glam’ Earrings ($14.99)

3. Shoes

Neutral seems to be the palette du jour in corporate offices – think black, white and grey. Not only is it easy to throw a neutral outfit together, but you can count on it to look sophisticated and work appropriate. A fun way to brighten up a neutral outfit is with a pop of colour on your feet.

Lipstik ’Ita’ Heels from StyleTread ($79.95)

Fiebiger Shoes ‘Rendezvous’ Flats from The Iconic ($39.95)

BCBGeneration ‘Cielo’ Heel from Piperlime (on sale $63.60)

We hope we’ve inspired your winter work wardrobe Anya and have added a little bit of colour to your weekdays.

How do you reinvent your workwork in winter?

Stay Chic,

Sonia. xx

Denim Duty

June 5, 2012 in Fashion

We’ve all got denim in our wardrobe. It’s been a fashion staple for many years, it suits most people and withstands the test of time and trends. So besides the faithful pair of perfect jeans, what other denim items could be added to your cart and to your list of favourites?

Let’s take a look…

 Dotti ‘The Blues’ Jacket ($79.95)

Somedays Lovin ‘Wild One’ Jacket from The Iconic ($89.95)

All About Eve ‘Sandy’ Jacket from SurfStitch (on sale $77.99)

The denim jacket is a great transeasonal item that can be worn over a floaty summer dress or with a jumper and scarf. And check out the surprise print on the back of the Somedays Lovin jacket – rrrrrroar!

Motel Dress from ASOS ($71.40)

Topshop Dress (approx $63.00)

Supre Skirt (on sale $15.00)

I remember rocking a denim dress in the 90s as a young teen. Boy, did I think I was cool in that little number. Well they’re back and so are denim skirts. I’m particularly impressed by the Topshop dress – who knew denim could be so sexy?!

Paris Hilton ‘Destiny’ Heels from Heels.com (on sale $80.74)

Converse All Star Trainers from ASOS ($79.90)

Giuseppe Zanotti Heels from Farfetch ($493.00)

A pop of denim on your feet is a bit of a fun way to incorporate this old faithful fabric into your outfit. Even Paris Hilton has the right idea with this cute design (I never thought I would utter those words…)!

Are you a denim diva? What are your favourite denim items in your wardrobe?

Stay Chic,

Sonia. xx
