Pretty Pastels

February 18, 2013 in Fashion

Last week a Shopbop newsletter hit my inbox, full of pretty pastel goodies. There is something so delicious about pastel hues – like they came straight out of a bag of fairy floss!

Surprisingly, pastels can also be quite versatile in your wardrobe. Pair your lilacs with lemon for a soft and feminine look or make a bold statement by pairing your pastel blue with neon! Add a pastel blazer to your favourite LBD or a pair of pastel flats with your favourite jeans + tee combo (except in Townsville, this is known as the ‘denim short + singlet combo’!).

Today we have five pastel pieces to get your started and a whole lots more plus pastel inspiration over on our Pretty Pastel Pinterest Board (now that’s a mouthful!).

1. Adia Kibur Short Stone Necklace from Shopbop ($45.52) // 2. Butter Wouldn’t Melt from Hello Darling ($18.95) // 3. Pastel Spring Cropped Blazer from Princess Polly ($60.00)// 4. Rebecca Minkoff Sienna Tote from Shopbop ($529.89) // Heart To Get Sequin Dress from Lulu’s ($40.00)

Do you find pastels completely delicious? Do you think Far North Queensland is ready for the sequin dress? My walk in robe is practically begging for it!

Stay Chic,

Valentine’s Day Gifts: For Her

February 7, 2013 in Fashion, Lifestyle

This time next week, lovers everywhere will be celebrating each other. Whether it is a grand, extravagant celebration or a small, modest evening at home – how you celebrate Valentine’s Day is as individual as you are as a couple. And let’s face it, when you’re with the one you love, you’ll have a great time no matter what.

As for my fiancé and I, we tend not to make a big deal of Valentine’s Day. We do however always make sure we spend the evening at home together, cook dinner and just enjoy each other’s company.

Earlier in the week, Melinda featured 5 great gifts for the special guy in your life and today I have 7 fabulous items that are all under $60 and that any woman would be grateful to receive on the most romantic day of the year.

1. Glasshouse Fragrances Candle from David Jones ($39.95)

Ask any girl what brand of candle they like and chances are Glasshouse will be mentioned. With a gorgeous collection of fragrances representing destinations all over the world, you don’t have to travel anywhere to feel like you’re far, far away. Bora Bora anyone…?

2. Diane von Furstenberg ‘Lock Heart’ iPhone 5 Cover from Shopbop ($39.84)

Changing your phone cover is like giving it a mini makeover. Shopbop has a fantastic range of designer phone covers, such as this adorable DVF one, that are much more affordable than a designer handbag. Which means you can change your phone cover a lot more often!

3. Sterling Silver ‘Baby Heart’ Necklace from Down That Little Lane ($55.00)

This simple yet stunning necklace would make a fabulous addition to your jewellery collection and is a piece that could be worn every day. A lovely way to carry your significant other’s heart with you.

4. Witchery ‘Abstract’ Scarf ($49.95)

Let’s face it, scarves are a wonderful distraction. They distract from a tired face, a bloated belly or even a stain from a certain little someone’s Vegemite toast. Witchery has a fabulous range of scarves and I absolutely adore the colours in this little number. A very versatile accessory!

5. Shabby Sisters ‘Turquoise Crowns’ Earrings ($48.00)

You can always count on Shabby Sisters for a classic and beautiful piece of jewellery. These gorgeous sterling silver and turquoise earrings are special enough to be worn on a night out yet simple enough to be worn with jeans and a white t-shirt.

6. Peter Alexander ‘Anchors’ Nightie ($59.90)

Peter Alexander sleepwear is like candy without the calories. Always sweet, always colourful, always a treat to receive. This little number is nautical and nice, perfect for when it’s time to retire to the captain’s quarters with your first mate. Ahoy there!

7. ModCloth ‘Letter Together’ Mug Set ($29.99)

As soon as I saw the name of these adorable mugs, I started humming the Jack Johnson song, Better Together. Obviously a play on that song title, this is a sweet gift that could be shared over a morning coffee with the one you love. “We’re better together…”

How do you celebrate Valentine’s Day? How do you leave hints for the gift you’d like to receive?

Stay Chic,

Sonia xx

Shop Her Chic: Rosemary from Lashes and Lattes

February 6, 2013 in Fashion

Welcome to another month of Shop Her Chic! Today we have the sweet, bubbly and beautiful Rosemary from Lashes & Lattes…

Hi, my name is Rosemary, I’m the Editor of Luxury Weddings and Modern Hair+Beauty magazines. I’m also a writer, blogger and sometime stylist. My little corner of the blogging world is www.lashesandlattes.com. I’m a makeup addict, fashion lover, completely obsessed with eyebrows and I’m mostly powered by caffeine.

You can find me on: Twitter // Facebook // Instagram // Pinterest.

My personal style is somewhere between polished vintage, minimalist contemporary and boho beach babe. I have a number of warring wardrobe personalities and it depends what kind of mood I’m in and what I’m doing that will dictate what I end up wearing. My wardrobe is a combination of thrifted finds, high street, designer investments and inherited vintage. I love being comfortable, so I tend to go for clothes that are either very well made, or half a size too big.

I’m quite lucky in that my office is fairly casual. We can generally wear what we feel like. I love silk shirts, pencil skirts and for a softer look on Fridays I go for jeans or leather pants with a beautiful soft cotton tee or cashmere sweater.

I have a wardrobe that’s almost half full of dresses and playsuits. I mean, who doesn’t love a great dress? It’s an outfit in one. Throw it on, decorate on some jewellery and you’re golden!

This outfit is favourite lately. For one, it’s tangerine/orange. (Major obsession right now.) Secondly, it’s really soft cotton (it hits the comfort factor straight up), the waist falls just below my bust (otherwise known as an empire line, which is very flattering for every body shape) and since it has a little sleeve it is perfect for the office, brunch with the girls or even dressed up for drinks.

I’ve teamed it with a pair of neutral wedges from Lipstik Shoes (neutral shoes are a must-have for any wardrobe, they elongate your legs and go with anything, I have about four pairs on high rotation right now), two delicate gold necklaces, one heart and one horseshoe for luck (another obsession, I love little gold charms on fine chains. They’re especially good for layering), two statement rings from Spell Byron Bay – a quartz crystal and stag amulet. I shop at Spell constantly, as their bohemian, dreamy aesthetic really calls to my inner gypsy.

Finally, I’ve chosen a nude clutch from Colette by Colette Hayman with a giant golden clasp, which really ties the look together from top (gold necklaces and rings) to toe (nude shoes). I love to wear a dress as the feature and just add a few accessories here and there… really letting the main piece speak for itself. This is a super fun outfit and there’s nothing you couldn’t do in it.

Here is our take on Rosemary’s outfit:

1. Rhythm In Stitches Dress from The Iconic ($89.99) // 2. Aurelie Bidermann Wild West Ring from My Theresa ($195.00) // 3. Metallic Knot Oversized Clutch from Colette ($29.95) // 4. Abbey Wedge in ‘Sand Micro’ from Verali Shoes ($24.95) // 5. Gorjana Viceroy Necklace from Shopbop ($49.80)

We don’t know about you but we think Rosie just rocks orange!

Stay Chic,

Melinda & Sonia x

Sparkle in Sequins

January 31, 2013 in Fashion

It’s no great secret that I am a total sequin lover.

I’ve been known to walk into a store and exclaim, “ooh shiny!” at anything that sparkles.

Why? I’m not quite sure, but sequins make me happy. There’s something so fun, festive and frivolous about them. I just adore them.

The great thing about sequins is that you can go as low key or as over the top as you like. You can wear them on your clothing or your accessories. And sparkles are not exclusively reserved for night time; you can definitely rock them during the day, as demonstrated by this über cool Witchery jumper. How good would it look with a pair of jeans and loafers?!

Here are 6 easy ways to add a little sparkle to your outfit and to your day (or night)!

1. Witchery Sequin Jumper ($129.95) // 2. Jeanswest ‘Lorrie’ Sequin Scarf ($19.99) // 3. Blaque Label Sequin Dress from Shopbop ($105.71) // 4. Lipsy Sequin Dress from ASOS ($99.87) // 5. Supra Society Shoes from The Iconic ($180.00) // 6. Betsey Johnson ‘Sequins in the Rain’ Bag from ModCloth ($118.00)

Are you a sparkly sister, just like me? How do you like to wear your sequins?

Stay Chic,

Sonia xx

Picnic Chic

September 25, 2012 in Lifestyle

With so many glorious sunny days ahead of us, one great activity to make the most of the beautiful weather is a picnic.

Whether it’s at the beach or the park, there’s something so fun about packing lots of delicious food, some drinks and a blanket and enjoying a relaxing afternoon in the sunshine to build sandcastles. Or kick the footy. Or take a nap…!

Naturally, it has to be a chic picnic so here are our picks that every picnic pack needs (try saying that sentence really fast three times!)…

1. Billabong Picnic Rug from Peter’s of Kensington ($40.00)

A picnic isn’t a picnic without a picnic rug! Peter’s of Kensington has a great selection that are all extremely affordable. Tartan and picnics just seem to go hand in hand, don’t they? Not sure why, but it seems to work!

2. Avanti Picnic Basket from Kitchenware Direct ($89.95)

I’ve wanted a great quality picnic basket for the longest time. This particular one caught my eye as it has all of the essentials such as cutlery, plates, cups, a bottle opener – and the best part? A cooler bag insert!

3. Unbreakable Stemless Wine Glasses from Down That Little Lane ($30.00)

These fabulous stemless wine glasses are made from food-safe grade polymer (PETG), which apparently reflects the wine’s colour and projects its aromatics like crystal. Who knew plastic could do that?! I happen to think the winning feature is the thumb divot for easy drinking grip.

4. Rebecca Minkoff ‘The Worlds Cherish Paris’ Tote from Shopbop ($97.29)

This super cute tote could take you from the park to the beach to the shops…to anywhere really! There are two prints to choose from – Paris with its iconic Eiffel Tower print or London with a cute phone booth print. Which one would you pick?

What do you pack for a picnic? Where is your favourite picnic spot?

Stay Chic,

Sonia. xx

To celebrate our birthdays, we are giving you the chance to win a prize pack valued at over $300. Come on over and tell us: How do you spoil yourself on your birthday?

Gift Me Chic: Sonia’s Birthday

September 7, 2012 in Beauty, Fashion, Lifestyle

There goes another year and here comes another birthday!

On 12 September, I will turn 28 and I’ve got another big year ahead of me.

The day before I turned 27 last year, my fiancé proposed to me and less than a week later we moved into a house that we planned to turn into our dream home. This past year has seen us hold our engagement party, plan our wedding and also renovate the original part of our home and begin building an extension.

This next year will see us get married, see the completion of our home and will mark a brand new chapter in our lives…and I can’t wait!

So what would you buy for someone like me?

Here are 5 items that I would be more than happy to unwrap on my birthday…

1. Lorna Jane ‘Love 2’ Tank ($49.99)

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Lorna Jane is my absolute favourite workout brand. I could have easily chosen 5 pieces of Lorna Jane gear, but I settled for this fab tank instead. I love the colours of the print and the words themselves – they describe what I’m all about!

2. Mimco Standoff Zip Top Bag ($425.00)

Every girl needs a couple of good quality handbags in neutral colours. They match everything in your wardrobe and will last the test of time. In my case, I need a good caramel/tan coloured bag and being such a Mimco fan, I couldn’t go past this gorgeous number.

3. Luxe Little Things Yellow Statement Bauble Bib Necklace ($34.00)

I’m such a necklace girl. I go through phases with earrings, bracelets and cocktail rings but my love for a statement necklace never seems to waver. Luxe Little Things is an Australian shop on Etsy and this necklace caught my eye – for obvious reasons. I just adore this shade of yellow that could brighten up even the simplest or most corporate of outfits.

4. Marc by Marc Jacobs ‘Odessa’ iPhone Cover from Shopbop ($37.97)

I desperately need a new iPhone cover, but do you think I’ve gotten around to buying one? Nope! So while researching this post, I was more than a little excited to discover all the fabulous iPhone covers on Shopbop. I chose this Marc Jacobs one because it is pink and looks a little like leopard print…!

5. Chloe Rose Edition 50ml EDP from Fragrance Fanatic ($114.00)

Chloe is one of my all-time favourite perfumes, in particular the Rose Edition. The first time I bought this fragrance was when we were travelling to Bali (gotta love Duty Free shopping!). It reminds me of the fantastic week we spent staying at the Royal Beach Seminyak, drinking cocktails at Potato Head and having dinner at Ku De Ta. Oh, take me back!

What items would make your birthday gift shortlist?

Stay Chic,

Sonia. xx

Gift Me Chic: Melinda’s Birthday

September 3, 2012 in Lifestyle

We are officially into the first month of Spring and also, both mine and Sonia’s birthday month!

Last year, I spent my birthday pregnant, two days past my due date and well and truly fed up! Two days later, my second beautiful boy came into the world and this year has been all about us settling in to a family of four.

With our upcoming move to Townsville and our wedding next August, it’s going to be another big and exciting year ahead!

Here’s 5 things I would love to be unwrapping on my upcoming birthday…

1. A Manifesto for Mums from The Smile Collective ($35.00)

I love this adorable manifesto! I included the Manifesto for Father’s in my Gift Me Chic: Father’s Day post and have been lusting over this one to put in our family room (by the way, check out The Smile Collective blog. I am obsessed!)

2. Pink KitchenAid Mixer from Peter’s of Kensington ($689.00)

I know, I included one of these in my Bake Me Chic post but in that post I was banging on about how much I love using my mum’s. Consider it officially added to my wish list!

3. Dior Sunglasses from Just Sunnies ($450.00)

This really should just read “Sunglasses” as I have no idea on what brand or style I am after but I desperately need some new ones!

4. Nikon D3100 from JB Hi-Fi ($544)

Is this a good camera? I couldn’t tell you. But it looks fancy and I would love a fancy (but easy to use!) camera to take snapshots of the kids. If you know anything about camera’s, please let me know!

5. Marc by Marc Jacobs Dreamy Logo Laptop Bag from Shopbop (118.75)

Every girl could always use a little more Marc in her life and I actually need a laptop bag as my Dell is currently… homeless. Plus, there is a matching iPad cover too!

What’s on your birthday wish list? Are you a fellow Virgo like Sonia and I?
Stay chic,
Melinda. xx
