The Friday Five

January 25, 2013 in Children, Fashion

Can you believe it is the last Friday of January already?! Where has this month gone? Probably the same place that 2012 flew to…

For me, this past month has seen us finalise wedding plans and start to get excited about just how close The Big Day really is. We’ve also had the roof go on our extension and the inside start to take shape. I cannot tell you how excited I will be to FINALLY have a bathroom, kitchen and laundry after nearly 8 months!

We celebrated our friends’ son’s 1st birthday, which was a great afternoon. He is a delightful little boy whose smile lights up his entire face. At the request of his lovely mother, we bought him some clothes to see him through the rest of the Summer. I immediately hit up The Iconic and found some very cute little items.

My hen’s night is coming up in a couple of weeks, completely organised by my 4 beautiful bridesmaids. Yes, this control freak super organised Virgo relinquished control and let them plan whatever they liked. Sort of. But I did find a gorgeous Zimmermann number to make me feel chic and special, no matter what embarrassing game they might make me play…!

And finally, I suffer a lot from headaches. This is due to me having a bad back (I had spinal surgery when I was 15 years old) and carrying all my tension in my neck and shoulders. So what’s a girl to do when she’s stuck on the couch with a terrible headache? Pop some Nurofen, pour a cup of tea and hit up the sale section of the Styletread website of course!

So as you probably know, on the last Friday of every month, Melinda and I take turns to round up our five favourite products for the month.

Here’s my Friday Five for January (which all just happen to be on sale – score!)…

1. Zimmermann Silk Lace Back Dress (on sale $200.00) // 2. Marquise ‘Little Chief’ Top and Short Set from The Iconic (on sale $20.97) // 3. Diavolina ‘Willie’ Loafers from Styletread (on sale $23.90) // 4. Max and Tilly ‘Submarine’ Polo T-Shirt from The Iconic (on sale $11.97) // 5. Bebe ‘Callum’ Star Print Boardies from The Iconic (on sale $17.97)

What products have you been loving this month? Share with us!

Stay Chic,

Sonia

Celebrity Chic: Kaley Cuoco

January 15, 2013 in Fashion

The 2013 People’s Choice Awards were held in LA last week and were hosted by the gorgeous, funny and talented actress…

Kaley Cuoco!

Kaley made her television debut in 2002 on the series ‘8 Simple Rules’, followed by a season of ‘Charmed’ and of course is best known for her role as Penny on ‘The Big Bang Theory’.

To walk the red carpet of the People’s Choice Awards, Kaley wore a beautiful pale pink A-line dress with lace overlay by former Project Runway winner, Christian Siriano paired with rose gold Giuseppe Zanotti peeptoe heels.

This particular dress caught my attention mostly because I am in Wedding Mode (less than seven weeks to go now!) and I thought it would make a beautiful choice for a bride to wear to her Kitchen Tea or even for a guest to wear to a wedding held at a winery.

I adore the ladylike styling of this outfit – from the pretty heels, to the dreamy dress, to the romantic hair and makeup. A beautiful, timeless look.

Here’s our take on Kaley’s outfit…

1. Tyrah Rose Gold Heels from Styletread (on sale $64.90) // 2. Colette by Colette Hayman 3 Row Diamante Bracelet ($8.95) // 3. ModCloth ‘Affection for Confection’ Dress ($84.99)

Are you attending a wedding this Summer? What are you planning on wearing?

Stay Chic,

Summer Casual Chic

December 4, 2012 in Fashion

The days are getting hotter, and there’s really no better feeling than slipping out of your work wear after a long day and into some comfy casuals to head down to the beach for a sunset walk or to wander down to your local café for a gelati.

But just because you’re going casual doesn’t mean you can’t also be chic.

You can still incorporate the biggest trends of Summer 2012-13 – think neon, metallic and prints – with classic pieces to create a fabulous outfit while still being incredibly comfortable.

Here are some casual chic items to get you started…

1. Witchery Summer Low Back Dress in Coral ($129.95)

I love a dress that you can just throw on over your bathers (or nothing at all!) and it looks glam just as it is.

2. Novo ‘Seattle’ Sandals ($59.95)

Neutral with just the right amount of beading to give these sandals some lift.

3. Sussan ‘Carpenter’ Linen Shorts in Blush ($49.95)

Linen is such a lovely Summer fabric and these fab shorts come in a variety of colours including blush, lagoon (blue), crimson and golden kiss.

4. Seduce ‘Jet-Setter’ Shorts from Jour et Nuit ($109.95)

A great pair of tailored black shorts are always in style. An investment piece for sure.

5. Billini ‘Hannah’ Sandals in Leopard from StyleTread ($19.95)

Leopard print is always in fashion (in my opinion!) and at this price, you can afford to buy them in every colour.

6. Forever New ‘Bethany’ Floral A-Line Skirt ($49.99)

I love a good a-line skirt that sits above the knee. Fun, flirty and feminine.

7. Dotti Twist Strap Maxi Dress ($59.95)

Another fantastic “throw it on and go” dress in the maxi form. Love the stripes and the twist strap detail.

8. Forever New ‘Willow’ Neon Trim Swing Tank in Fluorescent Lime ($29.99)

I adore a swing tank – they are stylish yet forgiving! And this Forever New number is right on trend, with its pop of neon, which comes in lime or coral.

9. Esther ‘Beach Time’ Tank ($49.00)

Another cute stripey number that would look great with denim cutoffs or tailored shorts.

What’s your favourite casual chic outfit?

Stay Chic,

Sonia. xx

Get Her Chic: Nikki from Styling You

November 7, 2012 in Fashion

We are very excited to introduce you to today’s Get Her Chic blogger. She is beautiful, stylish, kind and oh so talented…the amazing Nikki from Styling You!

I have long spent a disproportionate amount of my income on clothes and beauty products. I blame my politically correct mother who never let me have a Barbie doll as a child (cue violin music here).

In a former life I was a fashion journalist and magazine editor. I swapped dressing models for real people and in 2008, started a personal styling business.  I “stumbled” into blogging as a way to keep up my writing skills and market my business.  Now my blog has become the Styling You business.

I’m also a mum to two teenagers and a seven-year-old. Mr Styling You tolerates my need to Instagram everything before we eat or drink. ;)

Styling You offers easy and accessible fashion and beauty advice for busy women living in the real world.  It was judged Best Australian Blog in the Sydney Writer’s Centre Best Australian Blogs 2011.  In 2011 and 2012 Styling You also won Best Blog Post in The Jasmine Awards, which award excellence in fragrance journalism.

I have multiple wardrobe personalities and I like to tell others that this is ok because then it makes me feel OK. ;)

Most days I’d call my style beach casual but give me the opportunity to glam it up and I’m there unleashing that side of my wardrobe personality quicker than you can whip on a pair of Samantha Wills chandelier earrings. And if I’ve got go to Sydney for work, events or to speak then I reach into the corporatey side of my personality. Just a bit. Don’t want to look like I’m wearing a bank uniform. I do love to wear a frock – particularly in summer – as it’s one garment to worry about but also love my coloured jeans!

This outfit is the kind of adaptable outfit I need in my wardrobe to suit those multiple personalities. One photo shows what I wore to lunch with friends and the second (heels) shows what I wore to a work lunch in Sydney. Maxis are very much my friend because I can wear them with flats for casual (Urge sandals at Glue Store) and then quickly and easily dress them up with heels (Rockport) and a jacket (Witchery two summers ago). I can change the look again by adding a statement necklace – this one was a birthday gift from a girlfriend. This dress from Miss Manfield is also one of those wash-and-wear-gems that always get a big tick in my wardrobe.

 1. Ombre Layer Necklace from Sussan ($29.95) // 2. Cross Country Maxi Shirt Dress from Miss Manfield ($169.00) // 3. Drape Front Linen Jacket from Brown Sugar ($119.95) // 4. Zali Orange Sandals from StyleTread ($69.95)

Are you a Styling You fan? What is the best piece of fashion advice you have learned from Nikki?

Stay Chic,

Melinda and Sonia xx

Celebrity Chic: Emma Freedman

November 6, 2012 in Fashion

Today marks the biggest day on the Australian racing calendar. It’s the race that stops the nation and the one time that most of us actually take any interest in horse racing (not to mention placing a bet).

Here at Shop Me Chic, our favourite part of the Spring Racing Carnival is the fashion (obviously!) and so who better to select for our Celebrity Chic post on Melbourne Cup Day than a member of Australian racing royalty…

Emma Freedman!

Emma is not only the daughter of five time Melbourne Cup winner, Lee Freedman but is also the weather presenter for the Weekend Today show and Racewear Ambassador for David Jones.

Her bright and bubbly nature makes her so incredibly likeable and Emma has a very accessible sense of style that appeals to a wide audience. She’s definitely someone we could imagine having many giggles with over a bottle of champers.

Emma likes to have fun with fashion and so do we, which is why we’ve followed her neon lead.

Here’s our take on Emma’s outfit…

1. Gregory Ladner Sequin Clutch from David Jones Online ($69.95) // 2. Verali ‘Jocasa’ Heel from StyleTread ($79.95) // 3. Forever New ‘Aliona’ Dress ($129.99)

Are you having a flutter today? Will you be attending a Melbourne Cup event? What will you be wearing?

Stay Chic,

Sonia. xx

Spring Racing: Melbourne Cup

November 2, 2012 in Fashion

It’s the race that stops the nation but more importantly, the day the nation dresses up!

In our recent guest posts over on KiKi & Tea, we’ve been talking spring racing fashion. We featured the monochrome and modern theme of Derby Day and also the floaty and feminine theme of Oaks Day, but now it’s time to kick things into top gear and talk the biggest event of the Spring Racing Carnival – the Melbourne Cup.

Pretty much anything goes fashion-wise for the Melbourne Cup. Simply pick your theme and run with it!

We’ve chosen a bright theme because, as you probably know by now, neon is a huge trend for Spring and Summer 2012/13, and we think it would look oh so fabulous trackside. You’ll stand out from the crowd, that’s for sure! And as we’ve mentioned before, you don’t have to spend a lot to look like a winner for the races. Online stores really do hold a treasure trove of items and you can bypass the queues for the changerooms (not to mention the awful lighting).

If you want to go all out with the bright theme, you have two options: go flashy and clashing (think hot pink, turquoise and cobalt blue/purple) or tone it down slightly with similar tones (think pink, orange and yellow). Otherwise for a more subtle approach, choose one or two features of your outfit – your dress and fascinator, for example – and keep the rest of your pieces, such as your shoes and jewellery, neutral and classic.

Here are some of our fashion picks for Melbourne Cup…

1. The Love Addict Headband from Alannah Hill ($79.00) // 2. Emily Dress from SHEIKE ($149. 95) // 3. Tyrah Deep Blue Suede from StyleTread ($129.95) // 4. Serpui Marie Limelight Glitter Clutch from Shopbop ($209.23) // 5. Windsor Smith Pink Milan from StyleTread ($99.95) // 6. Fun Magenta Plait Necklace from The Accessory Store ($24.95) // 7. Jolie Chandelier Drop Earring from Forever New ($14.99) // 8. Genevra Fascinator from Luxe By Lulu ($50.90) // 9. Lexie One Shoulder Dress from Forever New ($119.99)

Whichever way you choose to wear your brights, be sure to have fun with it and remember that headwear is a must – it’s the Melbourne Cup, after all!

Will you be hitting up any Spring Racing Carnival events? What are you planning on wearing?

Stay Chic,

Melinda & Sonia

Colour Me Chic…Orange

October 18, 2012 in Beauty, Fashion

It’s been a long time between drinks – or colours, should we say! The last time we coloured your world was back in August with the colour pink.

Seeing as it’s high time for another hue, we decided to pick a colour that is bright, happy and super hot for summer…orange!

Orange is such a vibrant colour that is perfect for the warm, sunny weather, looks great as a subtle pastel or bright neon, and suits just about everyone.

“But how would I wear orange without looking like a council worker?” I hear you ask.

Well unless your name is Bruce and you’re wearing a hi-vis vest while leaning on a shovel, you can rest assure that you’ll look just fine! In fact, our friend B from B Being Cool recently wrote a guest post over on Styling You with loads of great tips on how to wear orange.

Here are some sassy citrus picks that will have you saying “orange you glad I wore this colour?” (yes I am the queen of dorky jokes)…!

1. Colette by Colette Hayman Metal Plate Tote in Orange ($49.95) // 2. Nicole by OPI in ‘Fresh Squeezed’ ($14.95) // 3. Seduce ‘Neon Nights’ Belt from The Iconic ($24.95) // 4. Nerine Anne Designs ‘Bardot’ Earrings in Tangerine ($22.00) // 5. Sportsgirl Coloured Denim Jacket in Melon ($89.95) // 6. Colette by Colette Hayman Multi Wristwear in Orange ($14.95) // 7. Urge ‘Florida’ Sandal from StyleTread ($99.95) // 8. Country Road Gathered Dress ($149.00)

Will you be rocking the colour orange this summer? What’s your best dorky joke?

Stay Chic,

Sonia. xx

5 Sandals for Summer

October 8, 2012 in Fashion

We have been banging on about Spring a lot lately but today we are throwing ourselves even further into the warmer weather and talking Summer.

I am so looking forward to spending Summer days at the beach and Summer nights enjoying BBQ’s and bubbly. I’ve already mentioned that my Spring Summer uniform will consist of pops of leopard and today I have another Summer essential (though perhaps that should read Summer obsession) of mine, the sandal.

Summer sandals, best paired with a slight tan and bright toes.

As I indulged in a little online shopping research for this post, my fiance dared to utter the words “Why do you need another pair of sandals, didn’t you buy two new pairs last week?”.

Luckily for me, his attention quickly turned from my sandal addiction to the Bathurst telecast leaving me to shop research in peace (no doubt, we will come back to that conversation later so if you have a valid excuse I could use, I would love to hear!).

1. Mooloola Caveman Sandals from City Beach ($19.00 on sale!) // 2. Tony Bianco Jangle Flat Sandal in Tan/Fluro Green ($89.95) // 3. Verali Dallas in Gold from StyleTread ($49.95) // 4. Novo Sissy Flat in Tan/Coral ($49.95) // 5. Saltwater Sandals in Yellow from Lady Pinwheel ($84.00)

To save my bank account and my relationship*, I’ve decided to let you choose my next pair. I’ve already got two pairs of tan Mooloola sandals which I love (and highly recommend!) and am awaiting ‘Sissy’ to arrive on my doorstep which leaves 2,3 or 5. And really, how is a girl supposed to choose between neon, sparkles or yellow? All three are a must have for Summer!

Which pair should be the next addition to my sandal collection? How do you justify more shoes to your other half? What do you think of our new-look images?

Stay Chic,

Melinda. xx

*This is a joke of course. He knew what he was getting into when he proposed!

Celebrity Chic: Pink

October 2, 2012 in Fashion

Pink is one of those artists I have come to love over time. I mean – I didn’t mind her music, but I was never a die hard fan. Then I saw her in concert on her ‘Funhouse’ tour a couple of years ago…and I changed my mind. The woman is super talented. And funny as hell. And sweet too, if you happened to catch her interview on 60 Minutes the other week.

Motherhood seems to really agree with Pink. “It’s changed me in every way,” she told Peter Overton in her interview.

It’s also changed her style, too.

Pink has taken her fashion to another level and is rocking some fabulous outfits of late. One in particular caught our eye, thanks to the trend of the moment – printed pants.

Image

Our favourite stylista, Nikki from Styling You recently wrote about how to wear printed pants (it’s not as tricky as you might think, we promise!).

Here are her top tips:

Printed pants styling tips

1. Choose pants that are as streamlined as possible. Yes, there are billowy printed pants out there but my money is on the tapered and/or cropped styles. In the right cuts (and fabric – a little stretch goes a long way) they are most flattering.

2. Wear and style tops to suit your body shape. I love the tucked in look. Just not on me. I’m a go with the flowy kind of girl … particularly when it comes to skimming over my “front bottom”.

3. Let your pants do the talking. A bit like wearing coloured jeans, if this is a trend that scares you, don’t try clashing patterns and styles straight up. Start with making the pants the focal point of your outfit and working back neutrals from there.

4. Darker prints will be more flattering on your legs. The thing I like about a printed pant, dark does not have to mean dreary. That’s great news for people who still want to wear the pants in spring and summer.

Sounds easy, right? Well here’s our take on Pink’s outfit (and I’ve taken some summery liberty, seeing as we’re heading into warmer weather)…

1. Diva Diamante & Feather Earring Pack ($14.99)

2. Wish ‘Eden’ Pants from The Old Scholar ($79.95)

3. StyleTread ‘Keely’ Black Patent Wedges ($139.95)

4. Bassike Scoop V Neck T-Shirt ($80.00)

5. Diva Yellow & Gold Look Link Watch ($29.99)

What’s your favourite Pink song? Will you be rocking printed pants this Summer?

Stay Chic,

Sonia. xx

Leopard for Spring

October 1, 2012 in Fashion

Firstly, can you believe we are in October? Pinch and a punch for the first day of the month… and all that jazz.

We are celebrating the first day of October with a post on one of our true loves… leopard print!

You may have noticed how much Sonia and I love a spot of leopard – recently we have featured leopard print for your iPhone, leopard print jeans and even a leopard print hand bag.

Now that the cooler days are well behind us, I’ve packed away my leopard scarf and leopard loafers to make room for some leopard print Spring essentials.

The key to wearing leopard print is to pick one statement piece (leopard print shoes are very easy if animal prints are out of your fashion comfort zone) and pair it with neutrals or block colours.

My Spring Summer ‘uniform’   is going to consist of pops of leopard print paired with orange, navy and white.

LeopardPrintForSpring

1.Betsey Johnson Animal Wayfarer Sunglasses from Urban Outfitters ($55.00)

2. Urge Abbey Leopard Sandal from StyleTread ($89.95)

3. Motel Leopard Printed Skater Skirt from ASOS ($59.34)

4. Mini Oxfords from Nasty Gal ($78.00)

5. Pounce on The Opportunity Top from Modcloth ($34.99)

And of course, don’t forget the stunning Carter flat from Keilana Skye Shoes which we featured throughout our Birthday Bonanza giveaway.

What’s making your Spring Summer uniform this year? Are you a leopard lover like Sonia and I?

Stay Chic,

Melinda. xx
