Shop Her Chic: Rosemary from Lashes and Lattes

February 6, 2013 in Fashion

Welcome to another month of Shop Her Chic! Today we have the sweet, bubbly and beautiful Rosemary from Lashes & Lattes…

Hi, my name is Rosemary, I’m the Editor of Luxury Weddings and Modern Hair+Beauty magazines. I’m also a writer, blogger and sometime stylist. My little corner of the blogging world is www.lashesandlattes.com. I’m a makeup addict, fashion lover, completely obsessed with eyebrows and I’m mostly powered by caffeine.

You can find me on: Twitter // Facebook // Instagram // Pinterest.

My personal style is somewhere between polished vintage, minimalist contemporary and boho beach babe. I have a number of warring wardrobe personalities and it depends what kind of mood I’m in and what I’m doing that will dictate what I end up wearing. My wardrobe is a combination of thrifted finds, high street, designer investments and inherited vintage. I love being comfortable, so I tend to go for clothes that are either very well made, or half a size too big.

I’m quite lucky in that my office is fairly casual. We can generally wear what we feel like. I love silk shirts, pencil skirts and for a softer look on Fridays I go for jeans or leather pants with a beautiful soft cotton tee or cashmere sweater.

I have a wardrobe that’s almost half full of dresses and playsuits. I mean, who doesn’t love a great dress? It’s an outfit in one. Throw it on, decorate on some jewellery and you’re golden!

This outfit is favourite lately. For one, it’s tangerine/orange. (Major obsession right now.) Secondly, it’s really soft cotton (it hits the comfort factor straight up), the waist falls just below my bust (otherwise known as an empire line, which is very flattering for every body shape) and since it has a little sleeve it is perfect for the office, brunch with the girls or even dressed up for drinks.

I’ve teamed it with a pair of neutral wedges from Lipstik Shoes (neutral shoes are a must-have for any wardrobe, they elongate your legs and go with anything, I have about four pairs on high rotation right now), two delicate gold necklaces, one heart and one horseshoe for luck (another obsession, I love little gold charms on fine chains. They’re especially good for layering), two statement rings from Spell Byron Bay – a quartz crystal and stag amulet. I shop at Spell constantly, as their bohemian, dreamy aesthetic really calls to my inner gypsy.

Finally, I’ve chosen a nude clutch from Colette by Colette Hayman with a giant golden clasp, which really ties the look together from top (gold necklaces and rings) to toe (nude shoes). I love to wear a dress as the feature and just add a few accessories here and there… really letting the main piece speak for itself. This is a super fun outfit and there’s nothing you couldn’t do in it.

Here is our take on Rosemary’s outfit:

1. Rhythm In Stitches Dress from The Iconic ($89.99) // 2. Aurelie Bidermann Wild West Ring from My Theresa ($195.00) // 3. Metallic Knot Oversized Clutch from Colette ($29.95) // 4. Abbey Wedge in ‘Sand Micro’ from Verali Shoes ($24.95) // 5. Gorjana Viceroy Necklace from Shopbop ($49.80)

We don’t know about you but we think Rosie just rocks orange!

Stay Chic,

Melinda & Sonia x

Sparkle in Sequins

January 31, 2013 in Fashion

It’s no great secret that I am a total sequin lover.

I’ve been known to walk into a store and exclaim, “ooh shiny!” at anything that sparkles.

Why? I’m not quite sure, but sequins make me happy. There’s something so fun, festive and frivolous about them. I just adore them.

The great thing about sequins is that you can go as low key or as over the top as you like. You can wear them on your clothing or your accessories. And sparkles are not exclusively reserved for night time; you can definitely rock them during the day, as demonstrated by this über cool Witchery jumper. How good would it look with a pair of jeans and loafers?!

Here are 6 easy ways to add a little sparkle to your outfit and to your day (or night)!

1. Witchery Sequin Jumper ($129.95) // 2. Jeanswest ‘Lorrie’ Sequin Scarf ($19.99) // 3. Blaque Label Sequin Dress from Shopbop ($105.71) // 4. Lipsy Sequin Dress from ASOS ($99.87) // 5. Supra Society Shoes from The Iconic ($180.00) // 6. Betsey Johnson ‘Sequins in the Rain’ Bag from ModCloth ($118.00)

Are you a sparkly sister, just like me? How do you like to wear your sequins?

Stay Chic,

Sonia xx

The Friday Five

January 25, 2013 in Children, Fashion

Can you believe it is the last Friday of January already?! Where has this month gone? Probably the same place that 2012 flew to…

For me, this past month has seen us finalise wedding plans and start to get excited about just how close The Big Day really is. We’ve also had the roof go on our extension and the inside start to take shape. I cannot tell you how excited I will be to FINALLY have a bathroom, kitchen and laundry after nearly 8 months!

We celebrated our friends’ son’s 1st birthday, which was a great afternoon. He is a delightful little boy whose smile lights up his entire face. At the request of his lovely mother, we bought him some clothes to see him through the rest of the Summer. I immediately hit up The Iconic and found some very cute little items.

My hen’s night is coming up in a couple of weeks, completely organised by my 4 beautiful bridesmaids. Yes, this control freak super organised Virgo relinquished control and let them plan whatever they liked. Sort of. But I did find a gorgeous Zimmermann number to make me feel chic and special, no matter what embarrassing game they might make me play…!

And finally, I suffer a lot from headaches. This is due to me having a bad back (I had spinal surgery when I was 15 years old) and carrying all my tension in my neck and shoulders. So what’s a girl to do when she’s stuck on the couch with a terrible headache? Pop some Nurofen, pour a cup of tea and hit up the sale section of the Styletread website of course!

So as you probably know, on the last Friday of every month, Melinda and I take turns to round up our five favourite products for the month.

Here’s my Friday Five for January (which all just happen to be on sale – score!)…

1. Zimmermann Silk Lace Back Dress (on sale $200.00) // 2. Marquise ‘Little Chief’ Top and Short Set from The Iconic (on sale $20.97) // 3. Diavolina ‘Willie’ Loafers from Styletread (on sale $23.90) // 4. Max and Tilly ‘Submarine’ Polo T-Shirt from The Iconic (on sale $11.97) // 5. Bebe ‘Callum’ Star Print Boardies from The Iconic (on sale $17.97)

What products have you been loving this month? Share with us!

Stay Chic,

Sonia

Beach Bags

November 13, 2012 in Fashion, Lifestyle

We’re almost halfway through November (how did that happen?!) and for a lot of us, the warmer weather has well and truly hit. This means a lot of fun things being added to our agenda – wearing lovely summer dresses, eating plenty of ice cream and of course, lots of trips to the beach.

One essential item for a great day at the beach is the humble beach bag. It always has to be bigger than you think you need, especially when you consider everything you have to take with you: towel, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, cold drink…and multiply that by however family members you have!

Melinda recently featured this striped Seafolly tote in her Summer stripes post and I may or may not have purchased it. Yeah, you got me. I did purchase it (as a gift!) and it is awesome. It is a great size and it zips up to keep all your belongings safe.

There are so many cute bags out there, and I’ve had the fun job of rounding up 5 of the very best for you to tote around during your day at the beach…

1. Cotton On ‘Summer Lovin’ Tote (on sale $10.00) // 2. Seafolly ‘Boat House’ Tote ($29.95) // 3. Colette ‘You Look Lovely Today’ Tote ($29.95) // 4. Billabong ‘Going Places’ Bag from SurfStitch ($59.99) // 5. Condura Beach Bag from The Iconic ($29.95)

Have you had a trip to the beach yet? What kind of beach bag did you take?

Stay Chic,

Sonia. xx

Hats off to Summer

November 8, 2012 in Fashion

We recently dreamed about all the ways we would wear a floppy hat this Summer. At the beach, in the backyard, at a BBQ. Anywhere that starts with a ‘B’ basically…!

But what if you just can’t or won’t do a great big floppy hat? Use your head and simply downsize your hat!

The trilby (or fedora or panama) hat has been in fashion for nearly every summer season that I can remember and is probably one of the easiest styles of hat to wear.

Rachel from Redcliffe Style rocked one in her recent Get Her Chic guest post and countless celebrities are spotted wearing one on their off duty days. It looks cool with any outfit or accessory, so you’ve got to give it props for versatility. Not to mention the fact it’s a great disguise for a bad hair day.

The other smaller style of hat perfect for Summer is the cowboy hat.

Now, before you holler “Yeeha! Pass me that bottle of moonshine!” – which celebrity springs to mind when you think of the cowboy hat? None other than Elle Macpherson. So while I’m never going to look as good as Elle in a bikini, at least I will look just as good in a cowboy hat!

The cowboy hat is just as versatile as the trilby and is another classic Summer wardrobe item worth investing in.

So if you want to be at the head of the fashion pack this Summer, here are some little gems…

1. Cotton On ‘Lacey’ Cowboy Hat ($16.95) // 2. Billabong Essential Cowboy Hat from SurfStitch ($35.99) // 3. Roxy ‘Dillon’ Cowboy Hat (on sale $20.99) // 4. Miss Shop Trilby Hat from Myer Online (on sale $22.46) // 5. Country Road Fluro Band Trilby ($49.95) // 6. Witchery Colour Block Trilby ($49.95) // 7. Jendi Cowboy Hat from The Iconic ($29.95) // 8. Dotti ‘Palm Springs’ Trilby Hat ($19.95)

What kind of hat will you be wearing this Summer? How do you like to wear yours?

Floppy Hats for Summer

October 23, 2012 in Fashion

Floppy hats have been on our minds a lot lately and we’ve even featured them in several recent posts (Get Her Chic: Amy from Absolute Amy, Not So Chic Playground Style and Sun Smart Chic just to name a few).

There has also been a lot of talk about floppy hats on Twitter and Facebook too – mostly that we all love them but we aren’t sure we can pull them off.

Why?

Well for a start they are just so darn big! You won’t be blending into the background while wearing a floppy hat, but who cares?! Embrace their size and use them as a great way to disguise a bad hair day, provide you with plenty of shade and ensure no one gets too close to you so that you can finally finish reading ’50 Shades of Grey’ in peace.

As for where you would wear one, the most obvious answer is outdoors. You wouldn’t exactly want to be head bumping someone inside of a crowded bar, would you?! That is, unless they’re cute and you want to get their attention. Anyway, back to hats. Think the beach, the playground, the park, the backyard. Anywhere that’s casual and outside is the perfect place to try out your new found confidence in a floppy hat.

Now, what to wear with it? I would stick to the Summer favourites – a cute sundress or maxi dress, shorts and a tank or if you’re spending a day at the beach, a kaftan and some aviators. You can certainly keep it casual but you can most definitely bring the chic with a great pair of sunglasses and an arm party. But be sure to remove all of your accessories, including your floppy hat, if you take a dip in the ocean, otherwise you’re going to look like a swimming UFO.

So now that we’ve covered the why, where and how, here are some fab floppy hat picks…

1. Witchery Floppy Hat ($49.95) // 2. Forever New ‘Giselle’ Sun Hat ($34.99) // 3. Fun Black Brim Hat from The Iconic ($39.95) // 4. Tigerlily ‘Amalou’ Floppy Hat from SurfStitch ($69.95) // 5. Country Road Wide Ribbon Hat ($49.95)

Will you be rocking a floppy hat this Summer? How will you wear yours?

Stay Chic,

Sonia. xx

Colour Me Chic…Orange

October 18, 2012 in Beauty, Fashion

It’s been a long time between drinks – or colours, should we say! The last time we coloured your world was back in August with the colour pink.

Seeing as it’s high time for another hue, we decided to pick a colour that is bright, happy and super hot for summer…orange!

Orange is such a vibrant colour that is perfect for the warm, sunny weather, looks great as a subtle pastel or bright neon, and suits just about everyone.

“But how would I wear orange without looking like a council worker?” I hear you ask.

Well unless your name is Bruce and you’re wearing a hi-vis vest while leaning on a shovel, you can rest assure that you’ll look just fine! In fact, our friend B from B Being Cool recently wrote a guest post over on Styling You with loads of great tips on how to wear orange.

Here are some sassy citrus picks that will have you saying “orange you glad I wore this colour?” (yes I am the queen of dorky jokes)…!

1. Colette by Colette Hayman Metal Plate Tote in Orange ($49.95) // 2. Nicole by OPI in ‘Fresh Squeezed’ ($14.95) // 3. Seduce ‘Neon Nights’ Belt from The Iconic ($24.95) // 4. Nerine Anne Designs ‘Bardot’ Earrings in Tangerine ($22.00) // 5. Sportsgirl Coloured Denim Jacket in Melon ($89.95) // 6. Colette by Colette Hayman Multi Wristwear in Orange ($14.95) // 7. Urge ‘Florida’ Sandal from StyleTread ($99.95) // 8. Country Road Gathered Dress ($149.00)

Will you be rocking the colour orange this summer? What’s your best dorky joke?

Stay Chic,

Sonia. xx

Colour Me Chic…Navy

July 12, 2012 in Beauty, Fashion

Today we are colouring your world…navy.

1. Darling ‘In The Navy’ Nail Polish ($18.95)

2. BYS Blueberry Scented Nail Polish from Fashion Addict ($3.95)

3. Face of Australia ‘Navy’ Eyeliner from Fashion Addict ($8.95)

4. MAC ‘Hey, Sailor!’ Limited Edition Eye Shadow in ‘Nautical Navy’ ($35.00)

Navy makes a beautiful and refreshing makeup change from black or brown – especially in the form of eyeliner. Still not convinced? Check out BellaSugar’s post on ‘5 Ways to Wear Trendy Navy Blue Eyeliner’.

1. ModCloth ‘Owl Be Waiting’ Scarf ($16.99)

2. Diva Studded Faux Leather Cuff ($19.99)

3. Colette by Colette Hayman Large Enamel & Metal Necklace ($19.95)

4. Beach Bumbershoot Umbrella from ModCloth ($17.99)

ModCloth really get me giggling with the names of some of their items. Case in point: the ‘Owl Be Waiting’ scarf…so cute! I’m totally digging the navy and gold jewellery colour combination. So very chic indeed.

1.  Topshop ‘Band Girl’ Knitted Jumper (approx $60.81)

2. Nasty Gal ‘Victoria’ Peplum Dress (approx $57.60)

3. Nasty Gal ‘Sylvie’ Striped Knit Top (approx $74.49)

4. Forever New ‘Gracie’ Embellished Evening Dress ($149.99)

2. Soles ‘Boot This’ Ankle Boot in ‘Navy’ from The Iconic ($159.95)

3. L.A.M.B. ‘Hortensia’ Heels from Piperlime (approx $318.00)

4. Alice + Olivia ‘Darcy’ Sling Back Pumps from Shopbop (approx $301.03)

Are you a fan of the colour navy?

How do you like to wear this classic colour?

It’s Satchel Time

July 9, 2012 in Fashion

Last week we featured our very first ‘Get Her Chic’ post – the beautiful Bec from My Bloggable Day.

Bec’s love for satchels sparked some chatter on Twitter and we thought what better way to extend the satchel love than to bring you a dedicated post with six different colours (and of course, different prices).

1. Pink Cambridge Satchel Company from ASOS ($229.57)

Last week Bec showed us how to work a neon yellow satchel from the Cambridge Satchel Company. If neon isn’t your cup of tea, why not try a little pretty in pink instead?

2. Purple Leather Satchel from Down That Little Lane ($129.00)

100% leather and in a gorgeous purple hue. Make this the statement piece in your next oufit.

3. 1 & 20 Blackbirds Contrast Satchel from The Iconic ($39.95)

Yet another bargain buy. Plus that yellow + tan combo? Right on trend!

4. Mini Orange Satchel from Beginning Boutique ($59.00)

It’s mini, it’s orange and it is under $100. What’s not to love?

5. Cambridge Satchel Company Contrast Trim Satchel from ASOS ($187.06)

If I forget about my white phobia (I always get it dirty!), this would easily be my favourite. There is something extremely sophisticated when it comes to contrasting white and navy.

6. Urban Adventure Bag from Modcloth ($41.99 on sale)

I am completely crushing on orange lately and I love how this bag is a little more edgy than the others – unleash your inner rocker!

If you’re not quite ’satcheled’ out yet, head on over to JustB who did their own “Ten Super Cute Satchels To Tote” post.

Are you a satchel lover? Which one of these do you see yourself toting around?

Stay Chic,

Melinda. xx

Answer Me Chic: Winter Workwear

June 19, 2012 in Fashion

We love hearing from our fabulous Shop Me Chic readers (or Chicettes as we like to call you), especially when we can help you out.

We recently received an email from Anya asking for some winter workwear advice…

“Hi Sonia and Melinda! I’m looking for some winter work inspiration (something other than Portmans because I seem to own their entire store at the moment). I need to be slightly corporate (meeting clients most days). Any ideas/advice?”

We’ve come up with 3 simple ways to revamp your winter work wardrobe without breaking the bank…

1. Blouses

Working in a corporate office myself, I am a big fan of blouses. They add an element of fashion and femininity to your outfit. The great thing about a blouse is that you can find them in every pricepoint and there are so many styles and prints to choose from.

ModCloth ‘Star-fishing For Compliments’ Blouse ($37.99)

Topshop Willow Print Pussybow Blouse (approx $72.80)

Funktional Stripe Fold Front Blouse from Shopbop (approx $113.38)

2. Accessories

Accessories are the easiest way to give your outfit a new lease on life. In winter, scarves take centre stage as they not only look super cute, but keep you nice and warm too. A statement necklace is a great way to dress up a plain top or shirt and some gorgeous earrings can make a simple ponytail look extremely chic.

Nerine Anne Designs ‘Summer Bliss’ Necklace ($38.00)

Forever21 Zigzag Patchwork Scarf (approx $8.92)

Diva ‘Neon Glam’ Earrings ($14.99)

3. Shoes

Neutral seems to be the palette du jour in corporate offices – think black, white and grey. Not only is it easy to throw a neutral outfit together, but you can count on it to look sophisticated and work appropriate. A fun way to brighten up a neutral outfit is with a pop of colour on your feet.

Lipstik ’Ita’ Heels from StyleTread ($79.95)

Fiebiger Shoes ‘Rendezvous’ Flats from The Iconic ($39.95)

BCBGeneration ‘Cielo’ Heel from Piperlime (on sale $63.60)

We hope we’ve inspired your winter work wardrobe Anya and have added a little bit of colour to your weekdays.

How do you reinvent your workwork in winter?

Stay Chic,

Sonia. xx
