Bump Chic

Packing for Paris

Well this is it.

My final post for Shop Me Chic before I become a married woman (tomorrow!) and fly away on my European honeymoon (next Monday!).

As you may have read last week, my very-soon-to-be-husband and I are heading to Paris, Italy and Dubai on a four week honeymoon which I am totally beyond excited about. I can’t wait to wander the streets of Paris, eat my way through Italy and take in the exotic wonders of Dubai.

While we’re enjoying the last days of Summer here in Australia, Europe is coming out of a very cold Winter. So for me, this means putting away my little sun dresses and pulling out my cooler weather clothes.

“Too soon! Too soon!” she cried.

Between renovating and extending our home and planning our wedding, I didn’t have time to start adding to my Winter wardrobe. So of course I had a mild panic attack when I realised I was missing some cooler weather essentials, but then my Shop Me Chic research skills quickly kicked in and I made some purchases.

Lace Me Up

We may still be lapping up the final days of hot weather; however we are officially just around the corner from Autumn. This means stores everywhere are discounting Summer stock (score!) and filling their shelves with Autumn and Winter fashion (exciting!).

One trend to keep an eye on this Autumn/Winter is a particular favourite of mine…

Lace.

Lace has had a real resurgence of late and I for one am so glad about that. It’s a beautiful fabric that is incredibly feminine, elegant and classic. Lace is a wonderful way to add texture to an outfit and it can be worn day or night. Corporate, casual or chic.

Seeing Stripes

Remember the countless times I’ve told you about my love for leopard and how I consider it a neutral? Well there’s another print love in my life that I’d like to share with you today. Everyone, meet Stripes.

Stripes are another timeless print that have been around forever and will continue to be around forever. Sure, they may go in and out of fashion, but I don’t believe they are ever truly out of style.

And this year?

“Stripes will be everywhere for spring,” Miranda Kerr recently told Grazia magazine.

To make sure you’re wearing the stripes and not the other way around, there are a couple of things to keep in mind:

  • Fit is key. Buy the perfect size for you or have the piece tailored. Also, be mindful of the size of stripe you choose.
  • Sometimes large stripes can be overwhelming for someone who is petite or short, so try the item on to be certain. For me, I tend to wear smaller stripes in a top or dress but can wear larger stripes when it comes to a longline cardigan.
  • Unless you are truly brave, keep the stripes as your only print. Wear block colours in the rest of your outfit to keep the look simple and chic.
  • And finally, use the print to your advantage! Wear stripes on whichever body part you want to draw attention to or emphasise.

Shop Your Birthstone: February

February’s birthstone is the amazing Amethyst.

The purple variety of quartz, Amethyst is associated with stability, peace, balance, courage, inner strength, sincerity and a calm disposition. The healing properties of Amethyst are believed to assist health problems such as headaches, insomnia, arthritis, circulatory system issues and general healing.

The colour purple is traditionally associated with royalty and the Amethyst has been used for much of history to adorn the rich and powerful monarchs and rulers. No wonder The Artist Formerly Known As Prince always wore purple…!

Valentine’s Day Gifts: For Her

This time next week, lovers everywhere will be celebrating each other. Whether it is a grand, extravagant celebration or a small, modest evening at home – how you celebrate Valentine’s Day is as individual as you are as a couple. Sparkle in Sequins

It’s no great secret that I am a total sequin lover.

I’ve been known to walk into a store and exclaim, “ooh shiny!” at anything that sparkles.

Why? I’m not quite sure, but sequins make me happy. There’s something so fun, festive and frivolous about them. I just adore them.

The great thing about sequins is that you can go as low key or as over the top as you like. You can wear them on your clothing or your accessories. And sparkles are not exclusively reserved for night time; you can definitely rock them during the day, as demonstrated by this über cool Witchery jumper. Christmas Gifts for Women

If you’ve been playing along with us this past month, you would have seen that we’ve covered nearly every member of the family when it comes to gifts for Christmas – babies, toddlers, men and even the best beauty gift packs around.

Now it’s the fun part. Gifts for us. Women!

If you’re anything like me, you can think of a million things you want during the year, but when a special occasion such as your birthday or Christmas rolls around and people start asking you what you want, you draw a blank.

So I’ve done a little research for you (and me, if anyone I know is reading this!) and found some items that are practical, beautiful and would be appreciated by any women unwrapping them on Christmas Day.

Summer Casual Chic

The days are getting hotter, and there’s really no better feeling than slipping out of your work wear after a long day and into some comfy casuals to head down to the beach for a sunset walk or to wander down to your local café for a gelati.

But just because you’re going casual doesn’t mean you can’t also be chic.

You can still incorporate the biggest trends of Summer 2012-13 – think neon, metallic and prints – with classic pieces to create a fabulous outfit while still being incredibly comfortable.

Here are some casual chic items to get you started…

Christmas Party Dresses

One of my many fashion mantras is “a dress is an instant outfit” – you put one on and you are pretty well good to go.

So when it comes to the festive season and the multitude of events we have to attend, it’s good to have a few gorgeous dresses hanging in your wardrobe, ready to be pulled and put on whenever the occasion strikes.

Considering many of us have to attend work parties, networking events and maybe even our partner’s workplace Christmas dinner, the dress code for dresses is slightly different to a night out on the town. Generally, I tend to dress slightly more conservative if it is a professional event – hemlines not too high, not too much skin exposed, but still staying true to my personal style.

The other bonus of attending events with different crowds? You can wear the same dress to more than one occasion. Score one for your bank balance!
