Colour My Home: Lemon Yellow

August 15, 2012 in Fashion

We debuted Colour My Home with Mint almost a month ago and today we planned to bring you another pastel hue, lemon!

While lemon is all over the fashion world right now (along with other pastels), lemon homewares were somewhat challenging to track down so a few of our picks are particular zesty and bursting with colour.

The house I grew up in had a lemon yellow kitchen. Staring at those lemon-y walls every morning as I ate breakfast and when I walked through the door after school every afternoon, I am officially lemon-ed out in the paint department. However, I do love some lemon yellow kitchen accessories to add some sunshine to the hub of the home.

1. Piaf Candle Holder from Zanui ($9.00)

2. Robert Gordon Lemon Heart Shaped Baking Dish from Peter’s Of Kensington ($27.00)

3. Yellow Mug with Etched Flower Design from Oxfam Shop ($11.95)

4. Modern Twist Silicone Placemat from Peter’s Of Kensington ($20.00)

How amazing is this lamp shade?! Whether you are tapping away at the keyboard to finish an essay, reading a book or making a phone call (on a retro meets modern technology handset!), a bit of zest around your study is a must – yellow is supposed to sharpen memory, spark creative thoughts and encourage communication.

1. Moth Origami Lampshade from Etsy ($71.25 approx.)

2. Keep Calm and Dream On Print from Etsy ($19.55 approx.)

3. Native Union Moshi Moshi Retro Handset from Peter’s Of Kensington ($43.00)

4. Mikasa Rockswirl Vase from Amazon ($25.87)

I look at bedding, the same way I look at fashion. Go with neutrals – greys, blacks, whites, beige, even a tan – and then add some colour with a cushion, photo frame, throw rug or a few coloured candles (and when they are lemon cheesecake scented, well that is just a bonus!).

1. Lemon Cheesecake Soy Candle from Etsy ($14.61)

2. Lemon Yellow and White Stripe Pillow Cover from Etsy ($34.21 approx.)

3. Sunny Yellow Gloss Photo Frame from Etsy ($5.85)

4. Mrs Darcy Zig Zag Cushion from Ada & Darcy ($69.00)

How do you like your lemon? Do you have any yellow around your house? What colour would you like featured in the next Colour My Home post?

Stay Chic,

Melinda. xx

Baby, You’re Solid!

February 29, 2012 in Children

Starting solids is a hugely exciting milestone in your little ones life. It can also be emotional (they are growing up too quickly!) and a little scary especially if you’re a first time parent.

Here are Shop Me Chic’s favourite (practical, affordable and of course, chic) products to cover all of your solids needs.

Top 100 Baby Purees by Annabel Karmel

This is a great books with countless easy recipes. It starts with ‘first purees’ which are single vegetables or fruits, progresses to mixed purees (carrot and apple, banana and avocado etc) and goes right through to little risottos, pastas and other easy meals for an older baby.

At just $13.24 (and free shipping) from The Book Depository, there is no excuse not to try it out!

Qubies by Miinki Moop

Qubies are a fabulous way to store home made baby food, breastmilk or (when you move on from the puree phase) leftover stock, pesto etc.

They are BPA, Phthalate and PVC free, dishwasher friendly and each ‘qube’ holds 30mL of liquid.

Simply pour your babyfood into the tray, pop on the silicone lid and freeze. The non stick lid allows you to remove only the amount of cubes you need and put the rest back into the freezer.

Prices vary depending on the stockist. Babies R Us currently have them for $14.99.

Skip Hop Tuck Away Owl bib

This ticks all the boxes – chic, affordable and practical. This bib is water resistent, BPA free and has a velco closing, tuck away pouch for storing dirty bibs when you’re out and about.

$13.95 from Baby’s Got Style

Take & Toss Bowls with Lids

These little bowls come in a pack of six in a variety of bright colours. They are perfect for travelling, for snacks or even as bowls at home. They are BPA, Polycarbonate and Epoxy and are less than seven dollars from Big W.

Oobi Baby Bib in Whale print

This is a little more ‘chic’ than practical. Oobi make their bibs from 100% cotton with a towel backing and who can resist that cute whale print? Also check out the matching Sunday Suit!

$12.95 from Little Styles.

Food Face Plate

This isn’t just fun for your little one to eat off, but fun for mum or dad to ‘play’ with! This has been a huge hit with my toddler – to little ones, presentation is everything.

Available in ‘Ms’ (shown above) or ‘Fred’

Boon Groovy Interlocking Plate, Bowl and Cutlery set.

This little set has everything you need once your baby or toddler is determined to feed themselves. A bowl, a plate and two ‘dipping’ (or snack sized) bowls in bright, fun colours.

$17.60 with free shipping from Zanui
